Texans @ Pats AAR

Boy did it feel good to win convincingly on the road against a team they should have beaten convincingly! 41-21 Texans for their first win in New England! The good guys have now tied their best start in franchise history with a record of 5-1.

What went well:

1) Pass rush. Will Anderson had a career game with 8 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 TFLs and a PBU that led to an INT. Danielle Hunter got a strip sack. Maye was under duress all game and knocked around like he was the pinball in a pinball machine.

2) Explosives in the run game. Mixon 59 yard and Pierce 54 yard runs! 192 yards rushing as a team. So happy to see Mixon back on the field, he helps out the OL a lot with his vision. And good for Pierce getting the big TD run. Hope he takes that positive momentum and keeps building on it.

3) Lack of penalties! 4 penalties 38 yards today. Texans win 41-21. Coincidence? I think not.

What did not go well:

1) Dalton Schultz. Maybe his worst game as a pro. When he wasn’t catching, he wasn’t blocking.

2) Chunk plays in pass defense. This continues to be the biggest weakness on this defense. It was amplified when Azeez left the game and the communication issues on the back end were amplified with both Azeez and Ward out. Stingley got beat by Boutte (great throw by Maye) as well.

This is a good assessment of what I saw. Disappointment in Schultz and the TE position in general. We could be so much more productive with them being more reliable. Coverage/scheme is still a concern giving up some big plays, especially over the middle.

I am happy with the win, but we have to put together four quarters as the competition gets more intense in the coming weeks.

Offense: B+
Defense: A-
MVP: Will Anderson

Solid win overall. Good confidence booster for next game. Who would have thought we score 40 without Nico. Hmm, we went scoreless in the 2nd quarter. Other posters have stated, schultz has an attitude problem and seems disinterested on the field. Pitre 2nd week in a row making a crucial mistake. 192 rushing yards from our O. 4 takeaways from our D. Will with 3 sacks and a batted ball for an interception. We have to get better. A step in the right direction, nonetheless

Call me crazy, I’m a bit more comfortable with Fisher at LT than Tunsil at this point. That last Mixon td run he got to the second level and made the block to let Mixon into the end zone

WA is a bad man

Bullock had a good day.

I thought Stroud had happy feet a lot today but could just be me…

ToTo needs to learn to tackle better

I like less penalties

I think I’m faster than Dalton and I’m slow AF!
Just play Q and the Rook.
Dell and Diggs were good.

There's already a thread on this.. but I don't know if I want to extend Diggs.. While still productive, He's lost a step and isn't as explosive as he once was. I would draft a young receiver and sign a solid vet.

My take:

This team is different. They didn’t allow another rookie quarterback to beat them like they did last season. As the season progresses, they will be getting better and as we can see we’re cleaning up on those drive killing penalties.
We still have a ways to go in a lot of areas.

Hey man it was good having Mixon back. He’s one of those special backs . When was the last time we had one or more 40 yards runs? Back in those Foster days.

Will Anderson had himself a game. Big fellas was all over the field, had 3 sacks and a tipped pass that resulted into an interception. That entire defense was out there hunting and swarming.

Good win

Last point, CJ is that dude. Man his ball placement is top notch.

CJ also doesn’t let things get to him. After that interception he went back out there with confidence. I’m so glad we got both him and Anderson.

I looked but saw nothing. Mods can combine.

Maybe him and Bobby aren’t seeing eye to eye??
Not sure. Past couple of games, Stroud has looked frustrated on the field and sidelines at times. I felt it was just due to the ebb and flow of the game, but listening to this post game interview on 610, he didn't sound happy, enough so, that one of the guys asked him what could bothering him so much after a win, to which he stated "he just wanted to get home".

Can we please stop making a big deal out of semantics . I knew exactly what the AAR meant. lol

Now back to this dominant win.
Say what you want. I have no problem with Jewish folks. You shouldn't ever be an anti-semantic.

As for the win. It was nice to see the Texans win a game in a way they should. Not perfect, but so much better than they have been.

The kid's done everything they've asked him to do including losing weight. We saw, imo, what DeMeco saw in camp, why he wanted to keep him as RB2, even though we couldn't see it.
DeMeco mentioned that Mixon and Pierce have the skillset to get more than what is blocked on a given play. Which is why the explosive plays came when they got back into the lineup.

For today at least that was true of Pierce.

Yeah I didn't get a blood pressure induced headache this week, was able to kickback relax and enjoy the game and good food. We've had enough one score games.

The Texans handled the Patriots like a 4-1 team should handle a 1-4 team. We took the lead on our first drive & never gave it up. I understand the Patriots don't have a good defense but still the Texans as a team rushed for 192 yards total. That is a hell of an improvement.

Mixon - 13 rushes for 102 yards and a 7.8 YPC
Pierce - 8 rushes for 76 yards and a 9.5 YPC

But what if you did exactly that and Diggs is the solid vet.

Very expensive, it’s a nice luxury while Stroud is on his rookie deal, but down the road the Texans need to be looking to move on from Tunsil/Howard/Diggs/Hunter’s money in order to resign Stingley/Stroud/Anderson as well as many good young franchise players who won’t be hitting the very tops of their market.

Fisher showed signs that he can take over at Left Tackle to a good standard, which is a great start because it’s easier to find a RT than LT.

DeMeco will find a developmental DE, and may already have that guy on the roster in Dylan Horton if he comes back well from his illness.

Developmental WRs are easy to find and slow to develop in the NFL, Metchie isn’t getting targets again once the regular season sets in, Hutchinson flashes then goes quiet just when you expect him to perform, may need to draft another one relatively high.

You can see Caserio is planning all this ahead, trading out of the 1st round last draft meant he doesn’t have a 5th year option tolling the same year Stroud & Anderson’s new money kick in, for instance.

Okay so your are right about those issues the Texans had when I saw it like the interception thrown and Stroud being sacked at third down when he needed something. that missed field goal was crazy but then again it happens to the best of kickers. This is what makes me nervous about this next game it isn't a give me and with the packers win with the cardinals with that impressive amount of points Texans Defense need to step it up for this one
