Texans @ Jets AAR

I’m going to be the last one to pile on the play calling, but the play calling makes no sense. Your OL sucks, you’re down your top 2 WRs, and you open the game with 6 straight passes?? WTF??

And the cute plays in the red zone … enough already. They’ve been doing that all season and none of them have worked except the Diggs TD run, and even that was a play that busted. Diggs was just able to turn it into something.

How they ever thought Kenyon Green was an NFL starter really makes me question their talent evaluation. He’s not the only problem on the OL but dude shouldn’t be on an NFL roster.

It looked a lot different without WAJ that’s for sure, and that’s a concern. And I guess it doesn’t help when you have Pitre covering Devante freaking Adams. What the hell was that? Let’s not start OBing this thing by not putting players in the best position to succeed.

John Christian has been the MVP so far this season. Not piling on him for a bad game when the whole damn team not wearing the number 28 had a bad game.

Dell hasn’t been the same player this season. He did finally have an explosive play but that was a regular thing last year. Not so much this year.

I’m not sold on Metchie but I thought this was a big chance for Hutch to step up. 0 for 3.

I hope, hope, hope he’s not getting Carr’d.
_____________________________

Other things I want to add, 15 of 31 targets went to Tank and Schultz. They also had 9 of the 11 receptions. Woods had the other 2. That’s it.

And as good as Mixon has been, and yes I know you can’t have him having a mega workload every game, but not utilizing him at all in the pass game? C’mon man! That makes no sense.

I hate blame it on ref guy but that was a horrible call on Stingley that cost them a turnover. Just horrible. But refereeing in all sports has just gotten way out of hand lately and nobody seems to care about fixing it. And it keeps getting worse. Not the reason the Texans lost but still.

I’m on board with most everything written.

1. That call on Stingley was complete and utter BS. It did in fact turn the game and delivered the dagger into the Texans.

2. Slowick running these very foolish gimmick plays in the Red Zone is maddening. He calls these very stupid plays thinking he has a run dominant team. Watch the tape Slowick….Mixon is getting his yards in spite of the OL.

3. I saw a different looking Metchie in this game. He had a bounce in his step that I hadn’t seen since he played for Bama. He might’ve been an asset last night if he were targeted a bit more. If Slowick had used him and Dell on more quick hitting crossing patterns….CJ might’ve rebounded in game like Rodgers did. I’d like to see Metchie a bit more before giving up on him.

4. Like CJ….The Texans “MUST” get Mixon a real running mate or he’ll be done before the season is done. Ogunbowale and Taylor obviously haven’t earned the trust of Slowick to get them in more often to help keep Mixon fresh. This should be addressed by the trade deadline, in the off-season, or the draft. Another option would be snatching RB- Frank Gore Jr off the Bills practice squad. That’s a no cost roll of the dice to see if he could offer another set of legs to help with the Mixon load.

5. Kendrick Green wasn’t that bad…might even be better if given the starting unit practice reps before the Lions game. Kenyon Green should be released or given away as part of any trade….if the other team would take him off the Texans hands.

6. As bad as Kenyon looked again, Howard said, “hold my beer” in the 2nd half. Howard is just a speed bump and not much else. Toss Mason into that mix as well. The right side of the line was just getting blown up after the half. CJ must’ve felt like he was stuck in a Venus Flytrap. This absolute failure is on the entire OL, not just the IOL guys.

7. I really believe Patterson should move to Center once he returns. If anything, I believe he can call protections better than Scruggs. I want Fisher at RT and figure out who might be the better LG between Scruggs and Kendrick Green. When the dust settles, move the other to RG. They should be figuring this out over extra days before the game with the Lions.

Well looks like CJ did the dirty work for everybody by landing on Green’s shoulder. He is out rest of season. Basically zero trade value now.

Im disappointed. Not mad.

I don’t know who to blame for Kenyon starting week after week. Slowik or Demeco?
Clearly a coaching issue there.

First 2 possessions, Kenyon allowed multiple hits/sacks on Cj. It took him to get injured to get out the game. Next drive without him, we score…

Mentioned earlier, at the time Cj was the best 3rd down qb, what he was doing was special. I knew losses like this would happen where Cj isn’t Superman and saves the day for this incompetent offense.

I look at this lost as a positive. Hopefully it motivates our spectacular gm to make a trade for a solid line man and receiver.

I just don’t understand the logic. You drafted a guy who benched the lowest reps in the combine and you expect him to block the strongest defender on defense? It doesn’t make sense.

Another game where Slowik 2nd half offense has been garbage. Last 3 games in the 2nd half, the offense has only mustard up 15 points. Tells me Slowik isn’t making adjustments. Cj is not to blame
Slowik has made zero adjustments game to game. Win or lose it’s been an awful offense based on talent on this team. What may be worse regarding Slowik is he makes no adjustments from first half to second half. This offense is literally unwatchable

There's a thread about "most hated teams", the Jets have officially moved to the top of my **** list.
Put the Jets at the top of your most hated teams list Carr-B ? Say what !
The Jets last night were a bunch of benevolent marry men handing out early Christmas
gifts left and right.
You know rookie receiver Corley droppped the ball right before crossing the goal line - that's
a 7 point gift right there. And apparently the Texans defenders were to disinterested to take
advantage of the situation as they watched the loose ball roll thru the end of the EZ instead
of recovering the fumble for another 7 points.

I have no issues with how our defenders played that down. It was ruled a TD immediately.

Cj Stroud: Texans players are pointing fingers, not buying in.

A qb would know this. He hears everything in the locker room. This tells me the leadership on this team is questionable. Tunsil should stop posting youtube videos of going to the club and act like an actual captain. It’s embarrassing like Cj said. I noticed week after week, this line blocks for 5 seconds and just gives up when the play isn’t dead. Pure laziness

The biggest issue right now is the loss of our #1 and #2 receivers.
CJ needs his guys back so he has some decent targets.

Your first sentence is written as if CJ Stroud said that although you didn't use quotation marks. I have not seen that anywhere. Can you provide a link to an article or video?
I don't want to seem as if I am picking on your post, but this is the type of thing that can really balloon out of proportion if he did not say it. Thanks!

I agree that wide receivers like Nico Collins would improve our situation. However, I doubt five Nico Collins with this offensive line would take us to the Super Bowl. Although what we saw from Patterson and even Kendrick was short, it definitely offered some hope. Left guard may not be fixed but could be significantly better. With that I think Center will also improve. Right tackle is still a question mark for me but at least we have a decent backup in Blake Fisher. I am really pleased that we have some time before we meet up with the Lions.

Is this what you're referring to?

Is this what you're referring to?

I can’t post pictures anymore (mods fix it pls) I watched him address the media after the game. I worded it shorter rather quote the full paragraph.

The message was clear. When you say someone can’t point fingers, that means someone’s pointing fingers. When he says we can’t have guys not buying in, that means people aren’t buying in. There are deeper problems lurking below the surface for the Texans and Cj saying this stuff just gives us a little glimpse of it by talking about pointing fingers and not buying in. He didn’t say who, and he could have blamed the offensive line and he didn’t which I think is smart. I ultimately believe as the qb he knows who isn’t buying in and who is buying in. What my mind is telling me is theirs other guys in that locker room that’s not doing what they’re suppose to do because they feel comfortable. 3 guys on our line are making a good amount of money. It explains the nonchalant attitudes during the game. We see it from schultz now this season too.

I understand. Just reading between the lines. Cj body language on the field tells it all. He was sacked 38 times last year in 15 games. already at 30 in 9 games.

There are a few things that keep Texans relevant and reasonably dangerous - DeMeco Ryans, CJ Stroud and our Defense.
All we need now is to be healthy at the right time and I still think we can make some noise.
Yeah, a lot of things need to go our way but I don't think this is our year.
Now, fix that oline by next season and that will definitely make it very interesting.

This offseason should be geared towards fixing that horrid oline. Whatever it takes.

An offense that's missing its 2 top WR's tends to look this way. This loss was very predictable. I just hate WA got hurt on that crap field.

If a play hasn't been made in 5 seconds something is terribly wrong. Something like WR's not being able to separate terribly wrong.

I think they get Nico back, trade for a WR and play K. Green/Patterson at LG. The offense will look much better. I read somewhere Caserio is looking around for a WR.

I agree with Metchie looking different last night. But I don't believe the OC "uses" players that way. Plays are called, QB reads the defense & that's what he bases his reads on. There's usually a "man-beater" a "zone-beater" a " quick shot" & a "dump off" in every play. QB has to match his read to what the defense gives him.

Frankly we are ahead of schedule but I just have to remind myself that it is year 2 of the rebuild. As maddening as it is. Hopefully we will not break CJ in while it is happening.
It is disappointing to see what we could be and just don't.

What is different this year to last? Last year pressure in Stroud’s face he’d throw a little pass that would go for positive yardage, look back on replay and the receiver makes his move while the ball is in the air, Stroud throwing with anticipation to a spot where the receiver is about to break to.

This year, ball snapped, pressure beating OL, camera doesn’t show what’s happening downfield, Stroud pats the ball and starts running/gets swallowed up.

Now Nico Collins might be as good as you can be at running himself open after the play has broken down, and maybe some of the happy feet & lack of production from it is due to him being out, but still, we aren’t seeing Tank Dell grabbing a ball over the middle in traffic and breaking it regularly, that beats the blitz and changes the pressure the D can show.

Even having Mixon hasn’t been enough to slow the pass rush down, we aren’t threatening to hurt you in the passing game in this phase of the season. And it has to be scheme and the QBs level of comfort with it because our #3,#4,#5 WRs are all talented guys that other teams would sign if cut.

This is true. The O Line and upgrades at OC and O Line coach is a top priority. It does no good to have a franchise QB if they are at risk of being seriously injured every play because of protection problems. We can never seem to have everything we need at once. Good QB but no line/protection, good RB and run game but WRs injured, etc.

I understand.

It could be scheme, I'm not saying it isn't. I'm only saying we don't know what the scheme is or isn't. All we see is the player's translation.

How well have DCs adapted to Cj? I think we saw last season he struggled with post snap rotation & identifying free blitzers.

Without Nico...

Still, it is Slowick's job to identify problems & fix them. We can see without a doubt that isn't happening.

Tony Boselli says hi.

Since when did the Texans draft Boselli? Ok you want to say he’s an expansion draft pick…that’s a very broad interpretation. I think everyone knows what I mean. Plus heavy rumor was that Texans knew Tony was shot but they took him so that Jags would expose Gary Walker and Seth Payne.

In any case…let’s keep it to college draft picks guys.

I disagree because besides rumors… we took him to be our left tackle and we paid a -heavy- price for selecting him… including breaking (busting) the #1 pick in David Carr. The price one pays in a #1 pick is relevant including the expansion, IMO. The selection of Boselli plagued the Texans O-Line for years.

With Collins out what other WR's keep DC's up at night wondering how they're going to stop the Texans WR's?

Is Green this teams biggest draft bust? I’d say so and pretty easily.
Important to separate the eras of the team for this discussion.

I’d say Green and Metchie are 1-2 for biggest bust of the Caserio era. Green gets the nod due to draft position and Metchie not being in total control of not living up to his draft slot due to cancer.

Just disappointed with how Green turned out. I thought he was an excellent prospect for the Warhop scheme. Was not as concerned with his workouts as most. But I would’ve been concerned that he was medically red flagged at the combine. The fact he still went 15 overall after poor workouts and a medical red flag was a big miss by Caserio. Especially now that he’s playing in a scheme that doesn’t suit his strengths.

If only the team wanted to run a ZBS scheme prior to that draft… Linderbaum is tailor-made for this scheme and would have been a 10 year starter at center like he will be for the Ravens now.

AAR today is

:texflag:Go Vikings!

I don't want the Colts climbing into position.... and I don't trust that the team has what it takes to take care of business in the upcoming schedule if they couldn't take care of that business against the Jets.

One and done is the pretty much inevitable outcome obviously.

Im not going to hold my breath... but at least getting there buys time for a miracle. And like a spoiled sibling..... I want it just so the others can't have it. Cause F the Colts, Jags and especially Titans... thats why.

Linderbaum is who I wanted at 15 and he's been a fixture for the Ravens
