Texans draft strategy

No, 9-7 isn't going to win the South this year. Watch out for Jacksonville! They have the cream of the Texans' defense and a favorable drafting position. For the first time in a long time, they have a coach who knows something about football and who won't take any BS.

Texans 4th CB was the cream of the defense? How knowledgeable you are

He won't be. That's expecting too much of him ability-wise. In the 2nd place, he can't play and stay healthy. In the 3rd place, he won't be the starter. The draftee will.

Disagree about the ability

Hope you're wrong about health

Doubtful a rookie starter will be starting day 1.

Best CB we had. Was your head under a basket so you couldn't see it?

Best at committing penalties? Bouye had a nice season, but wouldn't have supplanted any of the top 3 this year

CB was not cream of the defense in any case.

Agreed about 9-7.

As long as Bortles is at QB I wont worry too much about the Jags.

If they are not taking a FA quarterback I'm thinking they should draft 2 QBs this year, one in the first, and one in the third (hoping for Dobbs or Peterman).

It's been reported by Lombardi that BOB wanted Jimmy G at 2-1 that yr and Ricky told BOB, no that Jimmy G would fall to 3-1. (Whoops) Believe what you want, I choose to believe that report. Lombardi had to get his info from somebody in the know, he didn't lay in bed one night and say I think I will make up a crap story on the Texans drafting QB's.
As far as we know Jimmy G wouldn't be any better a fit on our team than Os.

We have very little to go on in regards to Jimmy G at this time so before we pass judgement on RS for not taking him earlier in the draft when we could have had him, let's wait to see what happens to Jimmy G's future.

I realize you favor him but you only have speculation at this point.

Delted due to double post.

Here we go again! :smiliepalm:

They will likely take Fournette in the 1st round and the media will be riding Jax as the next great up and coming team, AGAIN. Every year its the same thing. I'll set the line at 6.5 wins, anyone want the over, LOL

Agreed,

I did look at his tape East/West and Sr. Bowl and he was the guy I wanted them to pick that yr. Ricky should've given BOB the QB he wanted though even if he had to spend 2-1 to do it.

Unless we strike gold at the QB position, the titans will become the team to beat in the AFCS (I gagged a little). They have a QB, a good oline, good RBs and an improving defense that will continue to get better with Lebeau leading them.

The jags still have Bortles, who I think has been David Carred. Beyond repair

The Colts have to rebuild the abomination that Grigson left behind. They have Luck, so they'll rebound fairly quick.

The Texans have a good defense and.........

Spot On

Hopefully a QB and Savage is the guy.

Plus a rebuilt OL coming out of this draft.

Don't forget that Luck had shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder.
If the Jags get a good running game, they could be dangerous, as well. Just have Bortles be more of a Matt Schaub type QB than a Brett Favre type.

Then you must not have faith in BOB being able to develop QB's.

After 4 yrs in the system Savage better be better than top 30.
If BO'b had any faith in developing Savage there would have been no need to go and get Os. Last season should have been more than enough time for Savage to take the reins and lead our team from day one and getting Os would've been an after thought that would not have happened.

It wasn't BOB's call

If you believe BOB

Which I do

What would Savage have been last year if Os hadn't come to Houston? A two gamer and out for the season or the savior? Savage is starting his 4th season with the Texans and all we know about him is his potential, and half of his three seasons he's been injured.

No , I just don't have much (None) faith in Savage's talent .... He was in this offense for what amounts to 3 years when he got on the field last season and the same sh!t that plagued this team with The Blundering Wizard of Os plagued them with Savage under center - The inability to put the ball in the endzone - We really didn't have those problems with Hoyerable and Fitzy who aren't world beaters by any stretch of the imagination , turnovers were their undoing .... That just speaks to the ineptitude of Os and Savage.

Savage aint gonna save us.

This team needs a dose of Talent at the position.

ESPN Prediction:

1st: OT: Cam Robinson - Alabama (2nd ranked OT in the draft)
2nd: QB: Nathan Peterman - Pitt (6th ranked QB) or Brad Kaaba - Miami (8th ranked QB)
3rd or 4th: CB: Corn Elder - Miami (a bit undersized, but good cover skills inside)

I'm ok with that as the top-3 positional draft priorities, but not familiar enough with the individuals to comment.

OT: Duane Brown is aging, and Derek Newton is finished. This would be my first pick - assuming a good OT is available.
QB: 'nuff already said on this subject over the past decade. We need to take a shot at a QB in the first 3 rounds.
CB: We are no longer deep at CB after losing Bouye. JJo is old, and this might be his last productive season. Kareem Jackson might be better at Safety. KJo needs to stay healthy. In a passing league, this needs to be an area of strength and depth. Given we spent NADA on free agents, I'm still perplexed why we let Simon walk (fairly cheap). I would rather have John Simon for $5M+/year than Ryan Griffin for $3M/year. Even Demps would have been dirt cheap to re-sign (since he only got $5M guaranteed on his deal).
