Texans: Derek Stingley Jr.

Interesting for 2025 IF we bring in another corner to start when Sting on offense. He definitely has hands and eyes for it.
With Lassiter playing so well as a rookie, why would you bring in another corner? Lassiter has been a revelation on the outside at RCB. The better question is how do the Texans pay both of them AND Stroud/Anderson Jr., etc.

Lassiter and stingly are great but after them we have zilch. That is a high profile position that we have to have at least one good backup training. Same with Petrie and Bullock at safety. Hoping we will be able to address both of those defensive back positions soon.

In the playoffs this wouldn't matter to me. Ward is really good and was brought in to teach guys like Petrie/Bullock. Murray has been surprisingly serviceable this yr. With this said I hope they pickup a vet CB in FA and either draft a CB in the 3rd rd to develop or draft a stud S like Makuba that could be an instant contributor in the 3rd rd.

Can you imagine the uproar if Sting got injured playing offense? Do not tempt the injury Gods!
It's the playoffs and the team needs weapons that scare defenses if they want to make a SB. Are you saying that Ryans shouldn't play Stingley 10-15 plays in a playoff game to give his team it's best chance to win? I want the Texans to give themselves their best chance to win in the playoffs. The regular season doesn't matter anymore since they've made the playoffs and most likely will be playing the early Saturday playoff game in the 1st rd at NRG as usual.

Could you imagine the cheers if Stingley received five touchdowns in 2025 while maintaining his stats on defense?
PLayoffs only, if guys like Deon and Woodson can do this during the regular season, Stingley can do this on a very limited basis in the playoffs. If you want to give yourself your best chance to win a SB Ryans, you cant live in fear.

10-15 plays a game with Nico/Stingley with Dell in the slot, yep that'll work.

Mukuba of University of Texas is solid and might be in early round 4 for a trade up. Very good stats. As with 2023, I think the sweet will be in rounds 2 and 3 and perhaps top of the fourth.

Would love to see the Texans begin a successful track record drafting DBs like the Chiefs. One leaves via trade or free agency? His replacement drafted on day 3 of a previous year has been developed and ready to take over.

I agree as cornerback is about my favorite position on the roster. We hit extremely well with our first three picks in 24 draft and hopefully and apparently we will be set up for approximately the same pics in 2025.

One of the big reasons I’m pushing for SS, Nick Emmanwori (South Carolina) in RD1. With Jimmy Ward being 34 next season, and Ryans now seeing Pitre as his Nickleback…..it really opens up the SS position. Nick is a solid 6-3 @ 226 lbs, moves at a 4.38-40 clip, covers TE / RB’s over the middle and up the seam, and plays downhill as a run game hitter. This guy is a Day1 starter who helps the defensive backfield become even more dangerous.

If this guy is still on the board when the Texans are expected to draft….he’s easily the biggest impact player on either side of the ball.

I'm much more concerned with OL and RB right now. IMO, Fisher is the LT of the future, so the Texans need LG, RG, RT urgently. I'm also not convinced the Texans have drafted their C of the future in Scruggs or Patterson.

I just want them to draft an OL that isn't a bust... something they haven't done since DB
They hit on Ben Jones and Brandon Brooks in the 2012 draft… just for other teams. OB decided to get rid of them because he couldn’t develop them. That and I think the Texans medical staff misdiagnosed an illness for Brooks that caused him to demand an exit similar to Trent Williams with Washington.

Keep Nick far far…very far away from the offensive line. Instead bring in someone that knows what the hell he is doing. Let them determine which guys fit, and then develop those guys. It just seems like it’s a mish mash of different body types, different temperaments, and different skill sets, etc. and the guys teaching them suck canal water. The whole is worse than the individual parts. Watch Howard- he will be a rock solid RT on another team. It’s another Brooks situation.

OL seems to be Caserio's and/or the scouting dept. or OL coach's kryptonite. Someone keeps crapping the bed with those draft picks.

If a current player can be better on another team running the same type of offense than that is coaching. Which we have all said the Oline coaching is a problem.

Patterson and Fisher are doing well. Also, when the Oline was in shambles due to injury last year Caserio was able to find quality players better than what we are seeing this year.

How do you have starters that are worse than JAGs? One of those JAGs was Kendrick Green who for whatever reason isn’t seeing the field when Kenyon Green was whiffing.

Kenyon Green is a bust. Tunsil isn’t a leader. Howard is whatever. Scruggs can’t call protections apparently. Age has caught up with Mason. Patterson looks good on a team of misfits. Fisher still has to prove himself. There is no fight in this oline. No swarm mentality.

I just can’t get past a group of JAGs we’re better last year than a group of entrenched starters. Perplexing.

Fisher could be LT of future but not until 2026 and most likely after Tunsil finishes his contract. Most here know I am a huge Blake Fisher fan and project him to left tackle in the future. However, West Virginia Wyatt Milum could also. More interesting is Charles Grant 2 sacks allowed in 3 seasons. He became better significantly annually after his breakout sophomore year. This past season he was a candidate for the Walter Payton Award for best college offensive player and the only tackle of the 35. He also was the first to receive and accept invitation to the senior bowl. His PFF for this season. . 98 for pass and run blocking!

2025 my line up:
LT Tunsil LG Milum OC Patterson RG Trey Smith RT Fisher
2026 Grant at LT and even if Tunsil remains, having his inexpensive replacement on roster is good.

Unfortunately the success of our offensive line will only occur after we get appropriate coaching. I think that will be more difficult than drafting.

I think getting any starts out of a sixth round Patterson especially after his injuries, is a pretty good selection.

So you like Patterson and Fisher and Tunsil is their best ol. What could be the problem? Hopefully moving Howard to LG and Mason being avg is going to be enough to make a run in the playoffs. They've gotta get this fixed in the off-season and spending the money in fa on a guy like. Trey Smith would be a great place to start . In addition to the ol, the TE's aren't blocking worth a darn either.

That would be my 2025 ol.

What this has to do with Stingley is beyond me

I agree with your evaluation of Emmanwori but with Ward doing great at age 33 and most of 2025 GTD, I can't see Nick spending a day one for day two pic for a safety. He is going to have to be very selective and filling this next draft.
If you can guarantee two starting guards after round 1, I would probably be okay with a safety in late round 1. Under that scenario, a wide receiver would look good there also.

Stingley, the third overall pick in 2022 chosen right before two-time All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner, rebounded from two injury-plagued seasons and played every game to help Houston win its second straight AFC South title.

"It's really more about the secondary as a unit, how do we jell together when it comes to communication, when the ball is in the air and different types of things like that. I'd rather focus more on that than the personal," Stingley said.

After being named to his first All-Pro team Sting shows what a class act he is by crediting his whole defensive secondary for his success.

Great season by Sting. The huge question hanging over his head was durability. Dude was there week after week, and just got better and better. Going forward, it will continue to be about durability. If he can largely stay healthy, the sky is the limit.

I’m on the record as saying I wanted Sauce. I thought he was the safer, better choice at the time. Everything is 100% correct in hindsight. It’s all about risk management. I stand by my call in that moment. But hindsight is undeafeated.

Bottom line is Nick got that one right. Great job Sting! Congrats on an awesome season!
