Texans & Austin - KEYE 2008

<<<<<<UPDATE>>>>>
Just hung up with gary at KEYE and he said the Texans vs. Steelers game will DEFINATELY be on the air!!!!! He states he is a Texans fans and says "I hope WE have a great year WE need to have a great year!!!" and he hopes the first few games spark enough to keep the VY fans at bay :fans:

And on the Satellite vs Cable discussion, Don't you really need the TV signal the most during bad storms?!?

Yeah, he's a Texans fan alright. HA HA HA HA!

Remember - we've been dealing with this guy for two years now. I'm talking about phone calls and emails - not just a bunch of us screaming on message boards. I'm talking personal interaction here - like you had. I'm not saying he's a snake or anything, because I really don't think he is... but in the end he's going to do what's best for KEYE and not the Texans fans - which of course is his job. It's hard to be mad at him for that.

But him saying he's a Texans fan seems a little disingenuous considering last year's lies and broken promises.

Also - KEYE is the official pre-season station of the Dallas Cowboys, so, well... you know. :shoot:

Something else to keep him mind - if the Texans do well, and KEYE starts carrying more of their games - I will not consider it anything but 100% jumping on the bandwagon. I'll be happy to have them because I want the games televised in town - but I'll never look at them as "Texans fans."

When we were down and losing? Where was KEYE? They had a front row seat inside Vince Young's jock. Televising the Tennessee Titans in Austin, Texas. Disgusting. I'm not going to just get over that because they decide to show our games when we become a playoff contender.

Sorry, I'm very bitter about this whole situation. Glad the first game will be on TV, though, and I appreciate the update.

Finally, my DirecTV guide was updated last night when I got home, and the CW shows the Broncos game, it was just like Christmas morning.

Nice!
I couldnt have said it any better. I would like to add my frustration of trying to get boarders and fans alike to show to watch parties when we were only 2-14!

I like how he worded it and he did not use the F word once. My response could not be typed do to the parental controls on this board cause then it would read .................

That lousy ***** **** **** **** ***

well you get my point. KEYE and most notibly the program director Gary Vinson can kiss my ass.

Of course every time I spoke with him I used my work language so I would be heard and understood.

No reason to be sorry about being bitter, I am with you! I too have been dealing with the lack of KEYE cooperation and viewership numbers over fandom. But, I am TRYING to look forward and hope that we NEVER have to go through that again! Gary was saying that no matter what his decision was, he would get yelled at so he just had to go by the numbers. I don't aggree, but who am I but a HUGE Texans fan.

When the Cowboys had their horrible seasons, EVERY game was showed, no matter what the ratings!

Just imagine if VY had gone to someone like the Jets. Would we have been watching NY football in Texas?!? :hmmm:

BTW, 1 day 8 hrs 30 sec to Kickoff!!!!!!:wild:

There's his 'out' right there. Everyone and their brother knows the Texans will be slow getting out of the gate. The first 5 games are tough.

not really fair guys. Gary's fan loyalty and his job are quite separate i'm sure. he has to put on shows that sell commercials. however, when i used to work there i do remember him being a bit of a dork so that might explain the airwolf. maybe he's putting more of his personal tastes on the screen than i thought.

(no offense to other airwolf dorks)

oh and thirdly, i too was very frustrated with their "home of the texans" thing. even when i worked there it was B.S. all i got out of it was a nice hat. they rarely promoted the team and the cowboys always led in the sports segment.

Sorry Barrett but I tend to be "unfair" to people that flat out lie as Gary has lied. Period. You used to work there? Sorry about the phone calls, I used to drink...lol.

i was the sound engineer in the early days and a news video editor the second time around.

when we first switched over to CBS the Texans were just getting started and there was a pretty hefty promotional push initially but we were a new station just as the Texans were a new football team. Within a few months things were so chaotic that the sports department was left to their own devices. They were all from out of town and didn't know squat about local texas sports so they just kind of watched the other stations to see what they were doing and they were of course covering the Cowboys. So it just kind of happened that way.

we didn't win many games and the rest is pretty much history. they were nieve to think that the Texans would be something worth building an identity around for their sports department. they didn't have a following so it was kind of useless.

i did get a nice hat.

Yeah, I posted earlier that the screencap of the schedule I posted is no longer accurate. KEYER is not showing the game.

It's still not on the KNVA schedule, but I've gotten email confirmation that the game will be shown - plus it's now finally showing up on the Time Warner guide for Sat night 7pm. They're just not going to market it... but it will be on.
Not Market your product what a genius idea!

well, spoke with Gary again yesterday and he confirms that they WILL be showing the game! :fans:
He says that they do not control the program guide that says "TBD". SOOooooo, lets kick some steeler butt!!! :aggressive::texflag:

Was Gary the guy that answered our emails?

The first half of the year has relatively few conflicts as far as Texans TV coverage in Austin.

The second half? UGH. Conflicts ALL OVER THE PLACE, with both KEYE and the Fox affiliate for the Cowboys games.

Assuming the flex scheduling doesn't affect anything (which it probably will at some point)...
The weeks the Texans will definitely be on TV in Austin:

Week 1 at PIT (Conflict with Titans, but we already know Houston will be on)
Week 2 vs BAL
Week 3 at TEN
Week 4 at JAX
Week 6 vs MIA
Week 9 at MIN
Week 13 vs JAX
Week 15 vs TEN

That's IT!! Only 8 games in 2008 that we will see for sure, barring games being moved around due to flex scheduling creating a conflict.

Weeks we DEFINITELY WON'T be on TV (direct conflict with Cowboys, which the Texans will never win)

Week 7 vs DET (Dallas and Houston games are on at different times on FOX, but that week CBS has the double-header)
Week 8 (BYE WEEK)
Week 17 vs CHI (Dallas and Houston both on FOX at Noon)

Weeks where there's a Meth/Sausage Party game in direct conflict with our game, where a decision will have to be made by KEYE (not including Week 1)

Week 5 vs IND (Houston and VY both on at Noon on CBS)
Week 10 vs CIN (Houston and VY both on at Noon on CBS)
Week 12 at CLE (Houston and VY both on at Noon on CBS)
Week 14 at GB (Houston and VY both on at Noon on CBS)
Week 16 at OAK (Houston on at 3 on CBS, VY on at Noon on CBS - but FOX has the double-header)

Anyway - now that I get to the end of this, I seem to recall someone might have already done it. Not sure.

At least we know weeks 1-4 are sure things, and week 5 is a maybe - but it's against Indy, so I hope KEYE gives us the nod... and week 6 is a sure thing, so potentially if HOU/IND gets picked up - we have the first 6 weeks.
