Texans 2015 Draft Visits Tracker

I don't know why so many (like McLain) talk to the lowest football IQ person that may read them instead of the average. They come across as tools.

Because that is the highest football IQ info he has to offer?

Three TEs and a punter please

newsflash: Kubiak's no longer here

Really? Who was it that spent a 3rd on Fiedorowicz again?

Kubiak got more out of O.D. and only spent a 4th
soooo... there's that...
4chsmu1.gif

I'm gonna say under neither...

Or maybe it should be both

OD is exactly what he got drafted as - a TE who can get schemed open and has good hands (generally ). Kubiak's schemes came close to making OD a legend and then he got unjured.

Frankly I think ilast season was more on Fitz not being able to see the middle but I like OB for standing up and saying it was on the coaches. Never worked for Kubiak but I'll buy it for both.

This is what I was thinking, but then wondered how many plays were called to get the TE open as the primary target, and if there were any, were our TE's getting open?

Yeah... that's what puzzles me. When O'Brien says "it's on us, we gotta coach better" its a good thing but when Kubiak said "it's on me" that was a bad thing. I don't see a difference. Both are coachspeak - true, maybe, in both cases - but still coachspeak. No coach throws his team under the bus so they all say some form of "it's on me".

If OB keeps saying the same thing for 8 years, I doubt it will be received any better than "its on me"

8 years of "We gotta coach better." think about it.

I'm not throwing in the towel on Nix yet, but I think Shelton is a better talent regardless. Drafting him wouldn't prevent you from playing them both though. Shelton is athletic enough and talented enough to shift out to DE in a 3-man front.

Once again, I go back to my favorite team model the Baltimore Ravens. They had Haloti Ngata and Brandon Williams on the roster and still drafted Timmy Jernigan in the 1st round last year. They rotate Ngata and Williams at NT and Ngata and Jernigan at DE to keep all 3 guys fresh.

In this scenario we could do something similar with Nix/Powe rotating with Shelton at NT and Crick rotating with Shelton at DE.

All of this! NT in a 3-4, especially Crennel's scheme is the most important position to fill. If you feel like you can get 2 quality NTs on your team you make it happen and keep your DL fresh.

It's not a coincidence that the defense got a whole lot better once we signed Ryan Pickett (a competent NT) after about 5 games.

it's not the 8 years, its the lack of success.
I've heard that same coachspeak from Belichick after a loss too. But he's had much more success.

Not a specific player, but...

Jeff Risdon ‏@JeffRisdon

Lechlar seemed to fall off at the end last year, and finished middle of the pack PFF ratings for the first time in forever.

I remember the games where he was dealing with (I believe) a groin injury. He wasn't the same. He was NORMAL. But he got back to his old self by the end of the season. There is no need to waste a draft pick at Punter unless there is a once in a generation punter out there.

Coachspeak always happens, but you can live with it if you're in love with the coach and can't live with it if you don't. Sort of like women.

I want Pickett back if he's willing.

BOB looking for his Woodhead?

A guy I like who's built in the Woodhead mold is Akeem Hunt from Purdue.

5-10, 185. Ran a 4.37 at his pro day with a 3.96 short shuttle. Vertical jump of 37 1/2 and broad jump of 10-2. Played well this year for an awful Purdue team and looked pretty good at the Medal of Honor Bowl.

He caught 99 passes over the last 3 years while rushing for 1800 yards and returned 2 kicks for TD's. All of this on completely abysmal Purdue teams that went a combined 10-27 over those 3 years.

He's obviously not a power back but he can handle his own on the interior and is not afraid of some contact. Dangerous in the open field and can contribute in all phases of the game. He does have some injury red flags though.

I read Hunt did very well at his pro day. There should be a good 3rd down /KR/PR speed back available late in the draft. Hunt/Williams/Grant

Just as an abused woman hears the same thing from the new boyfriend and wants to believe it "won't happen again."

Chad Hamilton working out for the Texans

Pre-draft workouts are in full swing and Coastal Carolina's Chad Hamilton is in Houston with the Texans.

Coastal Carolina’s Chad Hamilton is working out for the Houston Texans today. The 6'2", 292 lbs. offensive lineman was an invitee to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

A 2014 consensus All-American and three-time All-Big South selection, Hamilton started over three seasons and played in 52 of Coastal’s 53 games over the past four seasons.

Hamilton led the team with 66 knockdown blocks and was CCU's top-graded offensive lineman (solo or tied) in 10 of CCU's 14 games. He was only whistled for three penalties and, over CCU's 433 pass attempts, only allowed two sacks in 2014.An offensive tackle for the Chanticleers, the projected move will be to the inside at the NFL level. Hamilton still has an upcoming pro-day on March 27 th.

Utah's Nate Orchard balances family, training ahead of draft
I had a private workout... with the Houston Texans. The head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, Marvin Lewis, was there watching, too. Both workouts went really well...

...With the Texans, we did strictly defensive back drills. The coach said he had seen me rush the passer enough and wanted to see me dropping back, how I move in space, how I turn my hips and run, breaking on the ball, see if I have soft hands. You never know, they might move me to safety after that. I did pretty good.

Need to update this list but TFTW noted this...

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
A bit unexpected: #UCLA QB Brett Hundley was spotted in Houston, set for a pre-draft visit with the #Texans tomorrow, I’m told.

Charlie Capmbell has been riding the Gurley to Houston train for a while now. Love Gurley, but RB not a priority for me that early in this draft.

For cryin out loud, don't tell Obsi that.

why not?
It's not like I would gloat
acigar.gif

seriously though, we do have higher priorities than RB. It's just that if the WRs and DEs/OLBs I had graded as 1st round worthy were all gone then I'd be eyeing Gurley next. And I wouldn't object to trading back a few spots to get an extra pick or two either.
