Texans 2014 Training Camp

No where in that paragraph does it say the player is to supply said medical information ("credible, responsible, specific, blah, blah, blah...) to the press. It says the CLUB must do so. The press folk asked the wrong guy. They should have gone to O'Brien or the team medical staff for specifics.

Try getting specifics from Belichick....

...Boston-South I tells ya...

better put down that gumbo and learn to like clam chowder. ...errr, "chawdah".

Keep in mind that what I posted was an NFL-created and NFL-mandated policy..........yet they very apparently don't see fit to enforce it. So many of the NFL policies are just there so the NFL can say they are there.........just one big joke after another.

Ultimate 11: Week One TC 'Eyecatchers'
John Harris/Texans Analyst

As Texans players were "off" today, there weren't any real observations to make on the field. So, I figured why not give you a snap shot of the guys making an impact early on in camp? As such, here's your Ultimate 11 Week One Training Camp Eyecatchers (as in catching my eye regularly). If you know me well, No. 1 will surprise you, perhaps even shock you. With no further ado, let's go.

11. DE Ricardo Mathews (No. 94) was signed in the off-season to little fanfare. But, after seeing him this week, it's...

10. I've seen ILB Max Bullough(No. 53) play 20+ times if I've seen him once. At 252 pounds, I knew that he'd...

9. If you're one of the lucky ones to have seen the first day of OLB Jadeveon Clowney (No. 90) in pads, you can always say "you were there". He's still not even 100% but...

8. ILB Justin Tuggle (No. 57) has played only a short amount of time at linebacker, be it inside or outside, but he's been...

7. I went to Texas A&M's first Pro Day, because, well, the Aggies had two of them, if you recall. But, that's neither here nor there, but on that first Pro Day, WR Travis Labhart (No. 17) performed extremely well. His 20-yard shuttle, 3-cone drill and 40-yard dash were on par with some of the best receivers in the 2014 draft class. A few of us chatted him up after the workout and jokingly said "hey, would love to see you in Houston", not thinking it would actually happen. Thankfully, it did because he's been...

6. RB Alfred Blue (No. 44) got only 71 carries in his final year at LSU but he's probably had that many touches and then some during his first week in...

5. DE Tim Jamison (No. 96) might be the most difficult guy for the OL to block...

4. When the three day rookie mini-camp in May concluded, I was hoping that WR EZ Nwachkwu (No. 17) could carry the...

3. DE Julius Warmsley (No. 74) is the wrong size, the wrong body type and the wrong position. But, he's...

2. WR Mike Thomas (No. 89) left Wednesday's practice after chasing...

1. This is going to shock many, but you know what, so be it (it'll be one of the last times I'll talk about kickers, presumably). K Randy Bullock (No. 4) and Chris Boswell (No. 2) have...

My "eyecatcher" for the week went unnoticed...

yeah, I know.
I also think that most coaches are purposely vague about injuries and don't want their players to disclose all the nicks and hurts lest the opposition grab that info and put it to some use. Drives us fans nuts but that's how it is. In my football watching experience head coaches have always been paranoid about divulging team information - remember how super paranoid George Allen was? They're still like that. O'Brien is just another one cut from that same cloth.

Admittedly, Foster took it to another level but once I figured out he was pulling their collective chain, I found it quite amusing. Having witnessed the press screw up information about space missions - after we GAVE them printed reports - I have little respect for most of them.

So again, if the press truly wants accurate medical information, they should petition the league to let them interview the team doctor(s) and/or training staff. Those are the folks will have precise medical specifics.

sorry about the  Doc. I'm not mad at you.

James Palmer @JPalmerCSN
Romeo Crennel said looking at his talent you can see why Clowney was #1 Pick

Romeo Crennel said he's been impressed by Justin Tuggle so far. Making calls and play in the field.

Crennel said Brian Cushing is making progress. Trainers will tell him when Cushing can return to the field

Romeo Crennel confirmed what I reported earlier today. Trevardo Williams has been released.

Deepi Sidhu @DeepSlant
Tom Savage models his game after older brother who played at Hofstra. #Texans

Tom Savage on Bill O'Brien: He's the type of coach you want to play for. When you mess up he tells you and as a player, you want that.

Jadeveon Clowney and Duane Brown having a convo after practice. Can't hear over the fans going bananas. #Texans

The big celebrity at practice signing autographs? Coach Romeo Crennel

Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel on how he'd like to use @JJWatt: Have him on the field. If he's on the field, we'll use him. #Texans

Dale Robertson @sportywineguy
BOB: We have worked a lot on red zone package. At end of day it comes down to execution on game day.

BOB calls Blue and Grimes 3-down backs too.

BOB: Still too many mistakes but not from lack of effort. Team working hard to follow the coaching.

BOB: Players totally off yesterday. NFL rules.

BOB: Guys who can play on all three downs are valuable guys. Says Arian is definitely a 3-down back.

BOB on officials: Told them to throw the flag if they saw anything. Go in tonight and tell the team "These things are going to hurt us."

BOB: Dre is doing better. No need to rush him back. He's a very bright guy. Already has a lot of things down.

Lots of options at the returner spot, including Kareem Jackson, BOB said.

BOB: Heard some good things about Adams. It was good to bring him in.

BOB on Arian: He's doing OK. Day to day thing (he didn't practice). Offers no opinion on Foster's bad behavior with the media Wednesday.

Only 3 active players left from 2013 draft with Williams officially gone.

James Palmer @JPalmerCSN
O'Brien knew about Joe Adams for a while. Wanted another WR. Said he'll get a shot at punt return for sure. So will 89, 82, 11, & even KJackson

O'Brein sees Blue as a three down back because of the way he catches the football. I saw him pick up a safety blitz brilliantly today.

I asked O'Brien about Alfred Blue, the first thing he mentioned was Blue's knowledge of football. Impressed so far.

Bill O'Brien said Andre Johnson has nothing serious & he's talking with Dre daily. Leaving a lot to him. Added Dre has picked up stuff already

Bill O'Brien said Arian Foster is day to day. Said we should assume he'll be back soon.

Tony Corrente is here representing the NFL refs to discuss rule changes with the media.

From above PDS:

Keenum with a quick pass to Nwachukwu in stride. DBs can catch him when he gets going. #Texans

Do we think that's a typo and meant to be can't? Or is EZ not very fast?

Why was Sapp so loved one week and working for UPS the next? Gotta be more than a cut on his ankle...
The description was a "gash", likely out 2 or more weeks. While Texans liked him, I guess they felt he wouldn't be a big loss vs. filling some other holes to be at full squad for practices. Or maybe he wan't being the best teammate he could be...?

Why do they keep up the old saw about Reed sliding in next to Cushing, when for the whole last week Reed has been playing at LOLB and Mercilus and Clowney have been splitting reps at ROLB?
Reed said will play inside and outside, potentially in the same game.

Why is Cush taking so long to rehab? What really were his injuries?

What is the status of Mike Thomas?
Practiced today. He just got gassed

What is the progress of the talks between JJ and the team.
They won't discuss that publicly, but it's more likely to happen after the season imo. Only one of the 2011 1st rounders have extended.

Some of the reasoning might be due to the incident with the Destiny's Child chick

Texans backup linebacker Ricky Sapp was involved in a situation Sunday that resulted in former Destiny’s Child member Farrah Franklin being arrested in Myrtle Beach, S.C., according to authorities.

I agree with at least one part. It doesn't need to be there since it isn't and shouldn't be enforced. Lying about it or spinning it is disingenuous.

As we all know, we will get very limited injury info. Therefore, all we are left with many time is reasonable speculation.

Re. Dent: Could it be a re-injury of the right ankle that was dogging him all last season, and was going to be operated upon early this year........until he obtained a 3rd opinion?

Re. Yeatman: Could it be re-injury of his post surgical ACL (8 months)?

Thanks yall! It's much appreciated. I'm so happy I found this board years ago because I got tired of hearing the same drivel that most of the Sport Talk crowd kicks around. Wow! Now that's a helluva thing to call a woman, even if she's only a former member of Destiny's Child. I don't think it's anything to get released over, either.

* sigh *

But what do I know? I mean, I'm just out here every day, man, working hard, trying to be the best fan I can be, you know? Just...tryin' to be the best fan I can be.

I was out at practice this morning and the stories of Vrabel being hands on and high energy are not overstated. Today he was out with the inside LBs and coaching them up on how to drill a RB. It was a sight to see.
tempDSC_5367--nfl_mezz_1280_1024.JPG

And yeah, he still looks in playing shape.

just my opinion, but it's time to move (on from) foster.

he's clocked out since receiving his contract and he only gives a damn when he feels like it. he is starting to alienate himself from his teammates, just like he's done with some fans and media already, and him and o'brien don't see eye to eye as of now. if foster doesn't get on board with what o'brien is trying to do, then it could get even messier.

I don't know what his base salaries are the next two (three?) years are but outright cutting him does not seem like an option. he still has plenty of value to the right team, though his contract, injury history, and personality unfortunately hamper any trade attempts.

if any team goes through pre-season, loses their 1st string rb and floats a decent offer out there (2nd round pick possibly?) I would jump on it. with jj's contract extension coming up, we can use all the space we can get.

John Lopez is that you? Still feeling a little butt sting are we?

2012 he had 1400 plus yards, 15 TD's, 217 receiving yards with another 2 TD's. 2013 he was never fully healthy dealing with an issue that required back surgery but still managed to cobble together over 500 yards rushing and 200 receiving. That bum.

he's clocked out since receiving his contract and he only gives a damn when he feels like it. he is starting to alienate himself from his teammates, just like he's done with some fans and media already, and him and o'brien don't see eye to eye as of now. if foster doesn't get on board with what o'brien is trying to do, then it could get even messier.

Where are you getting this?? Any of this?? Can you provide some quotes from these "alienated" teammates?

And here's what O'Brien himself said about Foster just yesterday...
(on getting Arian Foster back at practice and in pads) “Yeah, we put him back in there today and he ran some plays, did a good job. He’s a really good football player, obviously. This team is really counting on him. You know, he’s a guy that is smart, instinctive and obviously very talented. The Houston Texans need a healthy Arian Foster, so it was good to see him out there today.

So what ARE you talking about?

I don't know what his base salaries are the next two (three?) years are but outright cutting him does not seem like an option. he still has plenty of value to the right team, though his contract, injury history, and personality unfortunately hamper any trade attempts.

if any team goes through pre-season, loses their 1st string rb and floats a decent offer out there (2nd round pick possibly?) I would jump on it. with jj's contract extension coming up, we can use all the space we can get.

Seriously? I'm worried about him staying healthy but if he does, he's gonna beast in this offense.

I'm not a cap expert but Foster's salary does not appear to be trade-able and we definitely can't just cut him. He will be on the team this year and if he's healthy he's going to help us win games.

I'm not worried about an off-season interview or his personality. He can help us win football games.

So we've transitioned from the Andre Johnson soap opera straight into a new Arian Foster soap opera?

Easy to see why he alienated himself from the media don't you think ? Foster when healthy is easily a top 5 RB in the NFL. Sometimes i wonder if some of you actually want the texans to win since it seems in the opinion of some we should trade off every star we have so we can get a 2nd/3rd round picks and re sign JJ.

Sometimes posters make Rick Smith look really really smart, and that in itself is scary :kitten:

no link, just from conversations with someone who's been with the organization since '03. everyone is a huge fan of arian's play when he's on his game, but his selfishness and attitude are starting to wear thin on people within. there's a lot that is not reported/brought up, so if you're looking for a link from a news outlet you won't find it. for instance, I don't think it was reported that after his "be the best teammate" spiel, o'brien spoke to him for over 20 minutes afterwards because he won't put up with that kind of stuff.

believe it, don't believe it, just passing along info from someone on the inside.

edit: also, in an ideal world, foster and the texans work out whatever issues there seem to be and he comes back healthy, refreshed, and ready to go.
