i have a bad feeling about this...i think atlanta will take landry and then miami will take quinn (unless he goes to detroit/cleveland) so now who do we get? nelson? a d-lineman?

I haven't been this happy about this team for years. I think our offense will finally turn the corner. Moving back 2 spots is no big deal as there are plenty of good players out there with only the top 9 gone. Schaub is the second pick so I'm good with that. No way we draft a starter at QB for next year at 2.

I hear you, but I am concernd about that second rounder next year. The way I see it, we gave up 2 potential starters for Schaub. I am a little concerned.

first of all, lemme say that i'm proud of you guys for getting a really good franchise QB in Schaub. also glad that there's one less tema to worry about with Brady Quinn.good job.
i'm looking at Levi Brown now for houston.

schaub will be very good. not a textbook prototype QB for kubiak's offense, but whatever. the fact is, he's very good. and he'll be good.Yea thanks. It's a pretty good day for alot of Texans fans I would think. We are behind yall now. All my boys are saying the same thing as you. They are all dolphins fans.

i have to change my mind though. from what i understand, atlanta is in love with levi brown, and they're going to take him at #8. this pretty much says to me that houston will go nelson or landry. or, believe it or not, joe staley is an option.

rumors are that miami is targeting him at #9, so #10 wouldn't be a huge reach if that's the case. he had a ridiculously good pro day.Stayley at #10??? oh no!! :brickwall
so you were going to build a super bowl winning team through one draft? or in one offseason? please....you needed a franchise quarterback, and you got one. they're not cheap. you'd probably have to trade up for brady quinn, and with schaub, you get a player who's not vastly different, and you ultimately wind up giving up less, and it'll take much less time for one to mature vs. the other.Hmmmm...so the Texans had 6, wait 7 holes that needed to be filled...
Subtract the two - so...wait. No way we plug anything this year. We're just planning to pay to fix our problems next year, riiiight...so much for building through the draft...

Very true Vinny, moving two spots back is not much, there will still be a good pick in there for us, only drawback for me was giving up next years second pick as well as this years
Maybe we can trade Carr for a 2008 2nd rounder, and everything will even out.
We kept our first round pick.
We got Schaub with our 2nd round pick this year.
If we trade David for a 2008 2nd round pick (roughly the price of a 3rd round pick this year) then we basically break even in my book.
Now our chance to draft Landry Or AD just took a major NOSEDIVE! PLUS we gave the Falcons a 2nd RD next yr.Obviously the FO has a plan to build a winner in Houston. We only moved down two spots and got a potential "long term" solution at QB. So we lose two second rounders, if Schaub plays the way the FO believes he can it is well worth it. Fans complain about DC being on the team and want him traded, then when a move is made you complain. You must be a lawyer or something, try to be positive sometimes and you may be amazed. Seems fans will never be happy.
i'd like to see us move down a few spots and pick up an extra pick...and we still might be able to pick up a guy we like like nelson, brown, revis, houston...etc.
if not...we still could get like okoye or something...i'm not worried about us moving down 1 bit.

I, on the other hand, feel the exact oposite. I am very depressed. We're prety much condemded to play the same eight on the offensive line with a slower QB. The only positive I can take out of the trade yesterday is that it is a fairly deep draft class for speed. Shaub is the equvalent of two Demeco Ryans. Or shoud be considered that value. Nothing less than a five hundred season this year and a run at the paly offs in '08 or '09 would be considered
acceptable in my book. If he makes it and truns out to be Farveesque, it was a good deal. If he flonders under the assult of the no tallent o-line...they paniced and threw away two draft classes to be rid of the disfunctional QB. Might work out.
Agreed our kites tail is now tied to Schaub for the next three years. Up to each of us to detrimine wether or not the little bows that are Schaub are made of silk or lead.

It is no shock to me that you think the exact opposite of me....Frankly, I'd have to reconsider my stance if you agreed with it.I, on the other hand, feel the exact oposite. I am very depressed.

That's where I think most of the people talking about overpayment are missing something. We were going to get a player with the 2 this year so fine, we "got a player".
Now, when you talk in terms of what we "gave up" then we moved down two picks in this years draft which is no big deal. We were going to get a fine player at #8 (barring a sudden Casserly-esque brain fart) and we're still going to get a fine player at #10. It's a minor thing really.
The 2 next year is what we really "gave up" in order to make this move. We still are yet to see what (if anything) we can get in return for David Carr. Getting a pick or a player in return for Carr to set against the price we paid for Schaub will make that an even better deal.
We also don't know if the Texans are done moving. We may see them move down late in the first and pick up somebodys 2 to recover the pick this year (or something could happen next year). It's not like they can't keep dealing.
I originally thought that we paid a bit much for the guy but now I'm thinking that it's a pretty good deal.
fans are not stupid. we know what the Texans gave up to get Atlanta back-up QB Matt Schuab.
trade down two spots in 1st (worth 4th rd. pick/ability to trade up/draft a marquee player who might still be available) you call that no big deal.
the Texans 2nd rd. pick (#39) in the 07 nfl draft
the Texans 2nd rd. pick (low?) in the 08 nfl draft
another big long term contract to a still unproven qb
with david carr still on the books without compensation after being the top overall pick in 2002.
is that about it![]()
