switching from #8 to #10

i have a bad feeling about this...i think atlanta will take landry and then miami will take quinn (unless he goes to detroit/cleveland) so now who do we get? nelson? a d-lineman?

Keep an eye on Cleveland...IF they take Quinn...then the whole draft changes...just don't look into anything really until the Raiders start a convo with someone's agent to try and get the #1 pick signed.

Me too! I think we will take Amyopia, Nelson, Levi Brown to protect Schuab! Wonderfull! Now our chance to draft Landry Or AD just took a major NOSEDIVE! PLUS we gave the Falcons a 2nd RD next yr. I hope Schaub will be a steal. I think alot of people gittin' upset is understanable considering due to our past screw-ups of giving too much for crappy players or solid back-ups, ie. Babs, Pburnt, Hollins, ect. We need to start a thread of Texans reaches, goofs, & draft blunders! I really hope this not a desperate move by the front office! Damn, this organization tends to get taken advantage of often. Oh well we shall see next yr. SIGH! :wheel:

I haven't been this happy about this team for years. I think our offense will finally turn the corner. Moving back 2 spots is no big deal as there are plenty of good players out there with only the top 9 gone. Schaub is the second pick so I'm good with that. No way we draft a starter at QB for next year at 2.

I like this move also...pretty much any legitimate move to put a new guy at QB works well for me.

#10 instead of #8...I dont think much changes other than the fact that we can't dream about Peterson and Quinn falling to us anymore...they will most def not be there at 10. I think it is a good spot to get LaRon...seems to be good selection all around (worth the value...good player...good person...need position).

Why cant we dream about Peterson anymore? The 2 teams that just jumped ahead of us have more pressing needs than a runningback.

wow, never seen so much cry babying. texans drop 2 spots. sure now it's guaranteed texans don't get AP or Landry, but heck, texans get still get solid OT levi brown or trade down and get reggie nelson.

I agree with Vinny. I think this is a big positive move for us. I think the team will most definitely o-line or defense now. I think the Texans will be looking hard at Levi Brown and Reggie Nelson. I think Landry will go to the Falcons. And I don't think either Adrian Peterson or Brady Quinn will be available. But we could also trade back.

thanks for putting things in perspective I was about to :gun:

no time for lagering  not strong or quick enough :)

I'm still in SHOCK myself. I really thought this franchise (bob mcnair) would NEVER let go of david carr.

I'd like to see us trade down but if we STAY i wouldn't mind taking that young DT folks keep raving about or L. Brown.

i'd like to see us move down a few spots and pick up an extra pick...and we still might be able to pick up a guy we like like nelson, brown, revis, houston...etc.

if not...we still could get like okoye or something...i'm not worried about us moving down 1 bit.

I hear you, but I am concernd about that second rounder next year. The way I see it, we gave up 2 potential starters for Schaub. I am a little concerned.

One of those starters wouldn't start for 2 seasons if you look at it like us taking stanton/kolb in the 2nd....lol I get your point though.

Very true Vinny, moving two spots back is not much, there will still be a good pick in there for us, only drawback for me was giving up next years second pick as well as this years

first of all, lemme say that i'm proud of you guys for getting a really good franchise QB in Schaub. also glad that there's one less tema to worry about with Brady Quinn. ;) good job.

i'm looking at Levi Brown now for houston.

Yea thanks. It's a pretty good day for alot of Texans fans I would think. We are behind yall now. All my boys are saying the same thing as you. They are all dolphins fans.

You mean like " Tony Hollins and Jabar Gaffney" starters.

The D. Ryan steals don't happen every year. Besides look at Schaub as the steal in this years second round.

schaub will be very good. not a textbook prototype QB for kubiak's offense, but whatever. the fact is, he's very good. and he'll be good.

i have to change my mind though. from what i understand, atlanta is in love with levi brown, and they're going to take him at #8. this pretty much says to me that houston will go nelson or landry. or, believe it or not, joe staley is an option.

Stayley at #10??? oh no!! :brickwall

Hmmmm...so the Texans had 6, wait 7 holes that needed to be filled...
Subtract the two - so...wait. No way we plug anything this year. We're just planning to pay to fix our problems next year, riiiight...so much for building through the draft...

I hope your right...they can have Levi Brown and we will take Landry.

By the way, didn't Reggie Nelson run a 4.35 at his pro day?

Oh yea and no way staley at 10, especially because we don't pick again until the third round. We can't reach that far.

so you were going to build a super bowl winning team through one draft? or in one offseason? please....you needed a franchise quarterback, and you got one. they're not cheap. you'd probably have to trade up for brady quinn, and with schaub, you get a player who's not vastly different, and you ultimately wind up giving up less, and it'll take much less time for one to mature vs. the other.

if you're just trading picks for random vets like the redskins, then you're not building through the draft. if you're using those picks to secure the future of the franchise, whether it's on collegiate players or on franchise guys, you're still using the draft as a way to build your team.

Here's my problem: the Texans giving up their second round draft picks. Two of them. That's a big hit to drafting, IMO. Schaub better be the whole answer, cause from what I'm seeing, the Texans aren't exactly giving themselves options here. I'm not saying they've just pulled a Ditka, but IMO the three Day 1 drafts are your most important and most likely to impact. Out of the six Day 1 picks the Texans should have over the next two drafts, they've reduced it by a third. Any way you cut it, that's a hit.

Of course, there are years like last year when you draft four of five players who see playing time the first year. Maybe Rick Smith can make that same kind of magic. I just don't think that starting four rookie draft picks is a reality and something to be expected year-after-year.

One of the major hindrances for the Texans in their inaugural years was failure at the number 2 pick. I'm just not sure trading those picks away is the answer.

However, could be Schaub comes in and lights up the field. I haven't seen anything to make me think he's the next Brett Favre, but that seems to be the opinion of this board. If it takes him two to three years to become a great quarterback, well, check out the signature...

And yes, I still think talent-wise the Texans were one draft away from a play-off caliber team. I hoped the draft this year would be used to plug the lines, with the possibility of AP falling to the Texans, too.

They were a team with an average quarterback and sub-par lines, as well as a deplorable secondary. I don't see getting Schaub as fixing any line problems (Center, LT, and DT are still major holes) or especially any problems with the defensive secondary. I see a sexy pick that a lot of people will like, but that in truth, has probably set the Texans back another year or two. JMO.

Most thought a change at QB was needed, yet they want to complain about doing just that. I do think we over paid a littlem but only a little, like one round to much next year.

There was no immediatly starting QB in the draft this year, unless you want to say Quinn (a lot did not want because of his looks) and or J Russel (He would have been gone by 8), the Texans tried to get Gargia but he did not sign and went else where. Rob Johnson signed with the Cowboys. These two were the only starting veteren QBs out there worth a crap to mentor a young QB. Everyone is so hung up on next years 2nd round draft pick, lets not worry about 2008 until after 2007 is played and then figure out about that draft.

At 10 there are still a lot of choices that can happen, most seems either DT or DB. I pray that Levi does drop to the Texans and they do the smart thing and take him and this way the line is taken care of (baring injuries) for some time, even if Spencer comes back and full strength.

Maybe we can trade Carr for a 2008 2nd rounder, and everything will even out.

We kept our first round pick.

We got Schaub with our 2nd round pick this year.

If we trade David for a 2008 2nd round pick (roughly the price of a 3rd round pick this year) then we basically break even in my book.

Obviously the FO has a plan to build a winner in Houston. We only moved down two spots and got a potential "long term" solution at QB. So we lose two second rounders, if Schaub plays the way the FO believes he can it is well worth it. Fans complain about DC being on the team and want him traded, then when a move is made you complain. You must be a lawyer or something, try to be positive sometimes and you may be amazed. Seems fans will never be happy.

Roger that, OMT.

I wonder if, oh, I dunno, someone like the Patriots might be interested in the #10 to target one of the top-drawer wideouts. I don't have my NFL draft value chart handy, but I imagine NE's #24 and 2nd.

I, on the other hand, feel the exact oposite. I am very depressed. We're prety much condemded to play the same eight on the offensive line with a slower QB. The only positive I can take out of the trade yesterday is that it is a fairly deep draft class for speed. Shaub is the equvalent of two Demeco Ryans. Or shoud be considered that value. Nothing less than a five hundred season this year and a run at the paly offs in '08 or '09 would be considered
acceptable in my book. If he makes it and truns out to be Farveesque, it was a good deal. If he flonders under the assult of the no tallent o-line...they paniced and threw away two draft classes to be rid of the disfunctional QB. Might work out.

Agreed our kites tail is now tied to Schaub for the next three years. Up to each of us to detrimine wether or not the little bows that are Schaub are made of silk or lead.

I hope he can throw better than Carr because frankly I have no earthly idea how Schaub is going to do. He has started a whole 2 games in his 3 year career. I really wish he played more, so I would have some body of work to create an opinion on. I am very scared right now. This guy could be totally awesome or he could be just a good backup, I truly have no idea! Somebody help me!!!

first off, who gives a damn about quinn. what is it with evveryone wanting to draft mediocre qb's lately? anyways, landry is without a doubt going to atlanta. that leaves adrian peterson (possibbly) reggie nelson or levi brown at 10, all of whom are better than quinn and landry imo.

It is no shock to me that you think the exact opposite of me....Frankly, I'd have to reconsider my stance if you agreed with it.

That's where I think most of the people talking about overpayment are missing something. We were going to get a player with the 2 this year so fine, we "got a player".

Now, when you talk in terms of what we "gave up" then we moved down two picks in this years draft which is no big deal. We were going to get a fine player at #8 (barring a sudden Casserly-esque brain fart) and we're still going to get a fine player at #10. It's a minor thing really.

The 2 next year is what we really "gave up" in order to make this move. We still are yet to see what (if anything) we can get in return for David Carr. Getting a pick or a player in return for Carr to set against the price we paid for Schaub will make that an even better deal.

We also don't know if the Texans are done moving. We may see them move down late in the first and pick up somebodys 2 to recover the pick this year (or something could happen next year). It's not like they can't keep dealing.

I originally thought that we paid a bit much for the guy but now I'm thinking that it's a pretty good deal.

fans are not stupid. we know what the Texans gave up to get Atlanta back-up QB Matt Schuab.

trade down two spots in 1st (worth 4th rd. pick/ability to trade up/draft a marquee player who might still be available) you call that no big deal.

the Texans 2nd rd. pick (#39) in the 07 nfl draft

the Texans 2nd rd. pick (low?) in the 08 nfl draft

another big long term contract to a still unproven qb

with david carr still on the books without compensation after being the top overall pick in 2002.

is that about it

In close to 6 years of watching "Texans fans" I can say if I've learned anything it's that a fair share of them are in fact quite stupid. Cheering for the Texans confers no immunity from stupidity on a fan.

Yeah as a matter of fact I do call that "no big deal". It's two spots in the draft and sure, there's an assigned value to it based on some chart somewhere. If I'm confident in my scouts then I call that no big deal. I'll get a great player at the 10 just like I'd get one at the 8.

The second round pick in 2007 is what we used for Matt Schaub. Sure he's unproven unlike Quinn or Russell but.... wait a second, did I just say that? I can't believe I just said that. Quinn and Russell are unproven too.

They're probably also going to require a contract that exceeds what we gave up for Schaub and niether one of them has been on an NFL roster for three years working at this level and at this speed. Out of those three options I am ok with this one. In fact I like this one. I'd be ok if we had opted to try for one of the QB's in this draft too but there was no guarantee that either one would still be there when we picked so I prefer the move we made.

It's not like the Texans were the only team interested in Schaub. This isn't Jason Babbin where Capers and Casserly were the only clowns in the building that thought they had to trade up to get the guy. This isn't a case where 32 other teams are standing there scratching their heads over what the Texans just gave up to get a new QB.

The 2nd round pick this year is where we landed Matt Schaub and in my mind it's the end of story. We could get a starter at our spot in the 2nd but we weren't going to get a starting QB there. No way in hell I believe that was going to happen. We have a starting QB and just like any newly minted starting QB he can turn into the next Brett Favre or he can turn into the next A.J. Feeley. Everyone who's ever drafted or traded for a QB has taken a similar chance. We'll just have to wait and see if this one pays off.

We swapped first rounders for the chance to do so. It's a done deal and we still have a first round pick. It is, along with the 2nd rounder in 2008, the price of this move. You don't get something for nothing.

The 2nd in 2008 we will feel a lot better about if it's not in the top ten. We can push that pick down by winning games and I'd love to see that. If this deal turns out to be a good one for the Texans then that pick will be a lot easier to hand off than if we're picking in the high 30's or low 40's. If we can get anything for David Carr then we can stack that against what we gave up and feel better about this entire deal (assuming it goes as planned).

You apparently don't care much for the deal but I don't think that makes you stupid. I feel like it was a good deal and I accept the cost. I don't think that makes me stupid either.

All the proven quarterbacks are pretty much off the market. The unproven ones in the draft who we think might be capable of starting for us next season are out of reach and will cost more (while being less prepared for this level) than the guy who got. Carr we can do nothing about. The mistake was made in 2002 and there's no magic formula that I know of to make him and his cap hit dissappear. What are the Texans supposed to do about him? Trot him out to a solid wall of screaming hate next season? Let him lead the team that's player by player disowning him against opponents in an empty Reliant Stadium? Of course not. Carr was gone the moment the season ended I imagine. This is what we have to work with next year. I'm pretty excited about it.

my rationalization is the Texans are not maximizing their players, prospects, draft picks, free agents you name it across the board market value & everytime they enter into talks with another nfl team lose leverage & about all common sense. once they target a player they will find a way to sign him despite the consequences, the apparent "man-love" is surprising for such a professional orgainziation with millions riding on the success between the lines.

also, in my opinon, Matt Schuab is a system QB not a playmaker as promised as the big offseason signing. he's a solid pro-style qb that may or may not become a franchise QB not because of his ability as much the ability of that organization to use him in a system that suits his style.

I'm not gonna bring up past Texan misuse & neglect of properties but sooner or latter even the "menatlly challenged fans" will get smart & stop supporting this non-sense :lightbulb:
