Super Mario not so super so far

I found this on the interweb & thought it was interesting... Mario is a different person, I can't imagine him yaking it up that much when he was here. A couple of those sacks/hits, you can see he uses his quickness to get inside the tackle to get to the QB & he appears to be using his hands a lot better than he was here.

But he's not going to get 23.... you know that. He's got probably 5 more games 'til he shuts it down, or gets injured.

:kitten:

Pass rush has been ass since his departure.

Can you imagine jj and watt across from each other? Or on the same side even? Instead we have spent a ton of picks trying and failing to find a reliable option at Olb. That's what people seem to miss here -- it's not just the money it's the effort of replacing a player that then results in holes everywhere else

Mario Williams named AFC defensive player of the month
Posted by Mike Wilkening on December 4, 2014, 11:04 AM EST

For the first time, Bills defensive end Mario Williams has earned the conference’s monthly defensive award, the team announced Thursday.

Williams recorded 6.5 sacks in four November games, including 3.5 in a loss at Miami. His 12 sacks entering Week 14 are tied for fourth-best in the league.

The 29-year-old Williams has notched double-digit sacks in all three seasons with the Bills, with whom he signed a six-year, $96 million contract in 2012. Williams has played and started all 44 games with Buffalo, recording 115 tackles and 35.5 sacks.

The No. 1 overall pick in 2006, Williams needs 11.5 sacks for 100 in his career.

One thing about Super Mario, since he signed with the Bills he has been consistently one of the best 4-3 DE's in the league. We may argue about his worth here, but I don't believe Bills fans are unhappy with his production since inking his huge deal.

Potential HOF'er? I guess

Fat Randy is a potential HOF'er also

I don't see it for Mario. And I've never heard of it even mentioned before now.

I've always thought that HoF caliber would be the best player at his position from year to year, which is the basic case for Andre Johnson.

Mario has been a good player, but I do not perceive that he's been the best at his position.

Mario has always received more hate than he deserved, IMO. I think this comes from him being the unwanted third man in the Vince vs. Bush debate.

I think he has been very close to being every bit the player that he was envisioned as being. He just didn't fit the direction that the Texans were going so we let him walk.

I still wouldn't call him HoF caliber though.

He played 82 games for the Texans and recorded 53 sacks. So 0.646 sacks per game. He recorded 192 tackles, so 2.34 per game.

Williams has played and started all 44 games with Buffalo, recording 115 tackles and 35.5 sacks.

So that's 0.807 sacks per game with the Bills and 2.61 tackles per game. So the Bills have gotten better production from him for sure. The Texans paid him about $54M, IIRC, so that's a little over a million per sack. The Bills are about halfway through a $96M contract with him. I don't know what the payment schedule is or how much was guaranteed, but I'd be willing to bet they're paying more per sack. :)

Totally agree on all points...

And I've been a big Mario fan

but he's no JJ Watt. He gets this award because he won't get dpoy

It has always appeared to me they distribute the weekly and monthly awards kind of like gold stars in classrooms.

Mario is still under thirty if he stays healthy and has Probowl seasons then he may get in. We'll see.

Mario needs to get his team to the play-offs & have some incredible games... otherwise, he'll join the long list of talented defensive players who'll never sniff the HOF.
