LMAO @ "Rick Smith was in the bottom tier of GMs" ... like seriously where do you guys get these takes from? Just pull them out of thin air? A few keystrokes could prevent your from looking like a subjective fool!!
![]()
After 2014 all Rick Smith did was draft guys like: Bernardrick McKinney, Will Fuller, Nick Martin, DJ Reader (gem), Deshaun Watson, Zach Cunningham, Carlos Watkins
found undrafted guys after 2014 like: Greg Mancz & Brennan Scarlett to go with finding Arian Foster as an UDFA also.
these types of conversations would be better realized if everyone was more informed. Subjectively speaking you can say Rick Smith sucked, but the numbers dont bear that out - Just sayin'!!
Tell me about the 2014 draft that BOB gets blamed for? If he gets blamed for the bad picks does he get credit for the good picks after the 2014 draft.
Also if you go back and look at the 11 yrs RS was here and look at picks in rds 2-4 (Roster building picks, something you obviously cant seem to comprehend) it will make you sick to your stomach.
Bottom line is RS was very good picking star level players in the 1st rd. However when it came to picking lower level draft picks (You know like in rds 2-4 where the real work is put in) he was subpar at best. The lack of depth while he was GM should tell you that but obviously it wont.
GMs more often pick busts than studs. This goes true for ALL GMs. I prefer evaluating GMs relative to other GMs, instead of dissecting pick-by-pick. UR's chart is a relative comparison to other GMs. It doesn't necessarily say he was a good GM, but compared to the rest of the league, he was one of the better ones.
I tend to agree, or we should stop crying about our middling coach. We want one of the best, not a 9-7 expert, and if we want super bowls you need good ownership, GM, coaching, and players to get it doneCompare RS to Ozzie.
You should compare yourself to the best in your profession. Not the avg.
Do tell...
This is the story of how #Texans GM/HC Bill O’Brien came to be one of the most powerful figures in the NFL, and what he’s done with that power. Brought to you by @Fantasy_Mansion & I.

I shouldn't have said anything as my info is second hand. I've never met the man.
Still, if he is trying to get a GM job & hasn't been able to, all I'm saying is it probably has nothing to do with his record as GM.
To be fair, if Rick Smith found out on December 31, 2018
2017
You're being a bit disingenuous here. AJ didn't fall off a cliff in 2014. He still had a very good year despite the new regime and new QB. He got cut because OB was a jackass and said he wouldn't be starting in 2015. Which was just stupid by OB because his #2 WR in 2015 was a mediocre Cecil Shorts who had less than half the production AJ had in 2014I replied that both age and/or injury can cause a pro bowl player to decline quickly. And I brought up that Andre went from being a pro-bowler one year to being cut from the team in the next year, after a decline in production. (Andre declined from age not injury, so not sure where you got ^ from.)

BOB told AJ that he would be catching around 40-50 balls the next yr. AJ asked for his release, BOB granted AJ his wish. (Not sure how that makes BOB a jackass) AJ caught 50 balls with the Colts the next season and was clearly in decline. Letting go of AJ and his salary was the right thing to do.You're being a bit disingenuous here. AJ didn't fall off a cliff in 2014. He still had a very good year despite the new regime and new QB. OB told AJ that he wouldn't even start. He was going to start Cecil Shorts over him. That's what makes him a jackass and that's why AJ asked for his release. As anyone with any pride would. You can't let your love for OB overshadow the facts. Don't even try to throw the salary thing in... that's weak sauceBOB told AJ that he would be catching around 40-50 balls the next yr. I dont remember him saying AJ wouldn't start. I remember him saying AJ would have to compete for the starting job. I've got no love for BOB but he was spot on when it came to the fact that AJ was in decline. Your fandom is blinding you, which is totally understandable.OB told AJ that he wouldn't even start. And?From the link above:
O'Brien wasn't finished, informing Johnson that he wouldn't even start next season alongside DeAndre Hopkins.
"I was floored," Johnson said. "I don't feel like there is a guy on that team that can outplay me or outwork me. I mean, who am I going to play behind?
"So I was real honest with him: 'If that's your role for me, you're going to be dealing with a miserable football player.'"
I was showing you that OB did in fact inform AJ that he wouldn't be starting. Whether or not it was time to move on or not was not the question. OB did in fact handle it like a jackassAnd?
Bottom line is it was time to move on from a declining player.
Being honest with a declining player is being a jackass?I was showing you that OB did in fact inform AJ that he wouldn't be starting. Whether or not it was time to move on or not was not the question. OB did in fact handle it like a jackass
Who was the second best WR on that team? Are you seriously saying that Cecil Shorts was better than AJ?Being honest with a declining player is being a jackass?
Nate Washington?Who was the second best WR on that team? Are you seriously saying that Cecil Shorts was better than AJ?
At that point for the money, yes.Who was the second best WR on that team? Are you seriously saying that Cecil Shorts was better than AJ?
I've heard some ridiculous stuff trying to justify an outlandish take before but that one's a doozyAt that point for the money, yes.
It wasn't a doozy that BOB told AJ how many passes he would catch the next yr if he remained with the Texans and he caught that exact number with the Colts. BOB recognized AJ was in decline. Nothing outlandish about that, just the truth.I've heard some ridiculous stuff trying to justify an outlandish take before but that one's a doozy
You're just ignoring the fact that Luck missed half the season and the QB was a 40 year old Hasselback. After Luck went down, the offense went through Frank Gore and Coby Fleener. But you carry on with your OB worship.
