Steel B's Mock 2.0

After the Senior Bowl I thought I would put out a mock and I would love to get y'aals thoughts. I will also do a mock after the combine and probably another 1-2 the last 2 weeks before the draft after most of the pro days are done. This is what I would draft, not Caserio/Ryans.

1-25 Grey Zabel - South Dakota St. - Big, tough, mobile that can stand up to the NT's that gave Patterson so many problems last year. Booker/Jackson are gone.

2-58 Darius Alexander- Toledo- Big guy that can play 0 tech to all the way to wide nine. Looks like a superior athlete for his size. He's a large human being that can really move. Reminds me of a young Chris Jones. If Savion Williams or Jake Bech are there then that's my pick

3-89 Jaylin Noel WR Iowa St. A bigger version of Tank Dell. Gets off the line with ease, has good hands, quick in and out of breaks. Is always open. Can play some outside and in the slot. If you like Tank you'll like this guy.

4-127 Brashard Smith- RB SMU- Fast game breaking speed a threat to score anytime he touches the ball.. If you like Achane and Keaton Mitchell a couple of years ago you'll love this guy. Catches the ball and runs routes like a WR. A real threat when matched up against LB/S. A big play waiting to happen. Runs hard with good pad level. I think he's a great fit in a WCO like Achane is. He's a little undersized at 5'10 200 lbs for pass pro but he's not terrible at it because the effort is there. Coaching should be able to clean some of this up because of his effort level. Even if my eval is wrong he provides great value on ST's as a KR/PR/Gunner. Well worth 4-127.

5-167 Jackson Hawes - TE Ga. Tech- Best Blocking Te in the draft IMHO. This is my response to all of the Texans TE sucking at blocking. Looked really good blocking at Sr. Bowl and although not fast he's got good hands and made a great 1 handed catch during the Sr. Bowl. He's more of an outlet TE than a down the seams guy.

7-243 Shlio Sanders- S Colorado- Just a solid safety who does everything well but nothing outstanding, smart player. If Ward gets hurt again Sanders can go in and play at a decent level. He wont get burned deep and is a solid tackler. Should be a good ST's guy.

I think they sign Joe Noteboom over Will Fries in FA because of his knowledge of the system and is able to play LT (What he got paid to do originally) LG/RG. He's a great athlete who has had some injury issues.

FA signings- WR's Demarcus Robinson and Tylan Wallace, Fast, undervalued, can block and provides ST's value. Robinson knows the offense

FA- Isiah Rodgers, a good solid cover CB that while not great can fill in and your defense wont be hurt. Can play mainly outside but some slot.

like Brashard Smith too @ RB. For where SB selected him have no issue, he’s just a little light in the britches (196). Effective in space, best used as a receiver but wouldn’t want to pound him inside. Didn’t see him do well in pass protection either.

Tuten is 209 yet saw him destroy a DL in pass protection. Very physical and plays much bigger than size suggests. Late round steal, poor man’s Scattebo (Arizona State) who probably goes day 2 (would consider him if still there rd. 3).

Which brings me to Oladejo, DE UCLA 3rd rd. Explosive, long, raw, with energy & contagious personality. Playmaker, had two sacks in Senior Bowl, disruptive and displayed gamesmanship. Definitely a DeMeco guy.

I like the idea of getting Noteboom and Robinson. But if the Rams want to keep them, that have the cap room to top a Texans offer. Of course, the Rams may be big game hunting with Stafford nearing the end and pointing their $$$ at bigger fish. We'll see.

I saw Noel lay a block on a DB in the Senior Bowl game that sprung a WR screen. Imagine if the Texans had Noel last season. Slowik's WR screens may have actually worked and he'd still have a job.

I'm down with Bech or another well rounded WR. Williams is an exceptional athlete at his size, but with little receiver skills. Like a Cordarrelle Patterson. Now if your offense can incorporate a player like that, then maybe you can get value. But a guy that's going to get touches from WR screens, jet sweeps, and wildcat QB is not where you conventionally go in the 2nd round. Even if he becomes the next Taysom Hill.

I'm a sucker for truly gifted athletes. Savion struggles to pickup offenses. If they teach him 4-5 plays and don't overload him he can be successful. What rd do you select a special athlete like that?

Depends on the board and what the team is looking for. I think someone like Sean Payton or even Andy Reid could take Savion in the 3rd because they have a good idea of how to use him.

Yeah, I expect the Texans coaching staff to be on that level. Get the weapons and if they can't figure out how to best use those weapons then there's an issue.

There's the rub. A team needs all types of weapons. A guy that can stretch the defense vertically. A guy that can find ga[s in the zone and catch in traffic. A guy that can win jump balls in the end zone. It's like a puzzle and the Texans have a lot of missing pieces.

Noel just seems to be this years flavor of Xavier Hutchinson, and we already have Hutchinson. Even taking the Iowa St connection out of it, both seem to be guys who excel at making contested catches, but I wouldn't call either an elite separator.

Or in other words, get me someone who can get open not just someone who can abuse college DBs.

Savion has the ability to answer a bunch of these issues. The question is can he learn an offense? He's a playmaker.
