So .... Who's your QB in 2014 ?! - [edit] Mallett?

Am I the only one thrilled with the idea of selecting Derek Carr at pick #33 tomorrow night? My goodness gracious what a talent. Get over the fact his brother sucked. He's a completely different man and player. We have better talent and coaching this time around.

If this is what happens, then so be it. But I won't be able to help myself when picking on the guy though. The name itself give me serious heartburn.

But in the end, I'd support Bugs Bunny as QB if he'd win us a Super Bowl.

Mallettt for a 2015 3rd is the rumor.

If true expect a trade down at 2-1.

I would still pick Garappolo or Savage after a trade down.

No to Roger Carr's son.

Carr is the best qb out there. I hope we don't hold the fact his older brother was set up to fail against him

Teddy Bridgewater was taken behind Blake Bortles & Johnny Manziel. I think it's safe to say different teams have different opinions on who the best QBs are.

The only QB the #Texans had interest in that was drafted was Blake Bortles RT @chalupaBatman74: elaborate??

Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddock · 34m
Close enough RT @jay_dale: @JaysonBraddock @BHam2421 @chalupaBatman74 Bull****, unless you were in their meetings

Wow if accurate.

This is true. I mean, Carr is accurate as hell; he has a great arm, great touch, and is pretty intelligent, but his footwork stinks...which makes me think the Texans' apparent philosophy is no matter who they pick will pretty much sit for a while. Footwork can be corrected. He has all of the other tools.

Over 60% of his passes in college went less than 5 yards.

Yep. Fresno State threw screens all day. His down field accuracy (over 20 yards) was one of the worst. Manziel, bridgewater, and bortles were all better iirc.

Okay, found the chart:

Yep, I think mallett is in play seriously. They had the chance to get any of the top 3 or 4 and they passed. Tells me they might trade down and get maybe a 4 and then give up that 3.

What stands out about that chart is the percentage of completions Vs pressure & Low % of completions >16 yards for HWWNBM2.

I'd like to see that comparison with Garappolo in the mix .... just curious :kitten:

IMO, I don't see the downside in trading for Mallett. Make the trade, get him under a contract that is fair market value for a backup QB and give the kid a shot. If he pans out, hey great you got him on the cheap for X amount of years and if he doesn't, no harm against your cap.

you could still take a Murray, or even Mettenberger in the later rounds and let all the QBs battle it out in camp.

I know he is unproven but so are every single rookie QB in this draft, and Mallet has about a 3 year head start on the offense. I think Mike Florio said it best this morning....

it is a case of the devil you know vs the devil you don't know. OB knows Mallett, probably had a say in drafting him. If the price is reasonable, pull the trigger and move on...

I'm really bummed we missed out on TB by one pick. But surely we got told about the Vikes moving up so had the chance to beat whatever was offered.

We are not in the position to tank for Winston or Marriota so I am at a loss.

Perhaps AJ. Perhaps Malllot but I'm not sold. We Are in a bad situation now.

Would like Carr but it's not going to happen given history.

So .... I suppose it's time to get excited about Fitzmagic.

Fitz is insurance, but no need to panic yet. Still lots of qb's out there and two days to go till the end of the draft

I can accept Mallett if we don't even dream of giving him an extension until AFTER the season. Cause if he sucks we can dump him and all we lose is a late round pick.

Seriously? What if he lights it big time and because we didnt sign him to an extension he ask for crazy money?

So then how do you value a contract for him if you sign him to an extension after you trade for him? Texans don't negotiate contracts during the season. I bet Mallett would bet on himself and choose to talk on a deal after the season is over.

There ya go

On Mallett, @Edwerderespn says he's been told Mallett is "not available" in trade. Houston was driver on talks. Presuming those are now dead

Hello! I'd like to see the same thing. Anybody listening?

Freakin draftniks!

The Pats and Texans wouldn't consummate a trade for Mallett until New England drafts his replacement. If we are in the 2nd round and you hear "New England selects Anthony McCarron, QB, University of Alabama", then you'll know something is up.

I think McCarron is who the Texans end up drafting ..... after looking at the numbers & measurable for each QB last night he compares favorably with "all of the above" in terms of production numbers , has the size , won back to back BCS championships , can make every throw and only has one knock - the fact he had so much talent around him he's hard to evaluate.

How bout unedit the edit in this thread title from Mallett to .... your guess is as good as mine!!

Rick Smith flat out said that the rumors are false and that the team has not been involved in any conversations with the Pats about Mallett.

That's why I didn't do a mock this year. I mean, we're seldom right, but it's fun anyway. Still, with a new head coach, whom many are putting premature faith in, when it comes to QB and other skill positions, there is too much wait-and-see for me and my efforts.

If all this faith in OB is warranted, whatever QB he picks should give a sense of joy to most.

I have a feeling it's going to be

Dunno who's top 40 you're referring to, but Savage is not a 2nd rounder, imo. Garappolo, Mettenberger and Carr are the only QB's I have left in the top 50

I like Garoppolo, but I don't see him in a group with Mettenberger or Carr. If I were a GM looking at QBs & I thought Mettenberger or Carr fit my system, I don't see how Garoppolo would fit in that group.

Garoppolo, Murray, Brett Smith maybe.....

Mettenberger, Carr, McCarron..... & I'd throw Savage in that group as well, not graded as highly on my board, but if I include Savage, then I'm probably going to wait a little longer before I make my move for QB.

As soon as there are only two left in my group, I'm going to start making moves to try to get one. So if I include Savage, I might not have to make a move until well into he third round. If he's not, then we'll probably have to move into the second to get our guy.

Carr is off the board. I doubt the Texans make a move, because I do believe Savage is in that groupl

That wouldn't be as bad. Ian R is reporting we are working on a package and trying to extend his deal by one year.

Got a link to that ?!

Rick Smith said earlier today in the Clowney presser that he had not been in contact with NE for Mallett.

Along with a potential trade for Ryan Mallett to #Texans is a one-year contract extension for Mallett. That would come along with the trade

Not sure how accurate it is. Hopefully not at all.

there's also this

After the Patriots selected quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with their second pick of the NFL draft, I think we all assumed that Ryan Mallett would soon be headed to Houston. However according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that won’t happen.
@AdamSchefter said:
Definitely would not count on a Ryan Mallett trade to Houston or anywhere. Mallett expected back in Foxboro.

I don't think its accurate at all.

Should the Pats been willing to move him , I think they want more than a 4th or lower pick.

Smith has already said he hasn't talked to the Pats about him.

What's the timestamp on that tweet from Rapoport. I think he's throwing sh!t at the wall to see what sticks .... that's what reporters do now , 'I was first to break the story.'
