It took Kubiak 5 yrs to understand clock mgmt. Remember the Colts game in Indy where Kubiak took a timeout and the Colts challenged the play during the TO and won, then proceeded to score a TD?
BTW, I'm all for firing BOB, I just dont get all of the Kubiak love on this MB. (He was an avg HC, kinda like BOB.) With all of that said nothing has a chance to change until Ricky is gone. (Not gonna happen)
I'm not a Kubiak loyalist. His history as Texans head coach is what it is. That said, notice he didn't have the same issues as Denver's HC. Perhaps his learning curve was in H-town. . . (like O'Brien's has been)
My previous take was in context of this franchise and its owner, not what I want to happen. We know Rick Smith is not going anywhere. He will be GM through a third HC.
I was just speculating what I perceive could happen based on this franchise's history. They are not happy with O'Brien. I would not be surprised to see a 3-13 season and O'Brien be given his marching orders.
And since McNair finds head coaching changes to be traumatic, I can see them keeping it "in house" by promoting RAC, keeping Vrabel as DC, and doing something like bringing in Kubiak as OC. It just seems like the Texans/McNair thing to do based on my own perceptions.
It's fine if folks disagree. It is opinions and the essence of conversation.
The problem with Kubes as is the problem with O'Brien, is they are too predictable when it matters most. Kubes with his trademark draw play on 3rd and long. EVERYONE knew it was coming and if we as fans know it's coming, I'm sure people who get paid to know these things are more than prepared for it. With O'Brien, Miller up the gut on 3rd and short when we absolutely have to have a first down. We all know it's coming, yet somehow, it still happens and the same result ensues every time.
True, but, you cannot deny the simple fact that Kubiak has won three rings with his system and with him calling 100% of the offensive plays.
Where is O'Brien's skins on the wall for his offensive system?
The stark difference between them is simplicity vs. complexity. Kubiak's attitude of "we do this and we do it well" has had success. That is simply undeniable. The man, as an offensive mind, has a master plan, and he has continually implemented it well.
O'Brien, on the other hand, seems unable to even find a QB in four years. He was LUCKY that Rick Smith had a man-crush on Watson. He said it was Rick's call and he gave a thumbs up for it. But Watson is not running O'Brien's EP scheme in the same way that Brady does it. Watson improvises, makes plays outside of the scheme, and would succeed in just about any scheme based on his natural talents.
