So, what’s there to look forward to now?

Mangler

Toro de España
As the entire sports world already knows, Deshaun Watson went down and is now out for the season due to an ACL, and along with him pretty much our chances to even clinch the division. (More than likely)

Now, we know losing Watt, Mercilus, and Cole at the other side of the ball didn’t help our chances, but losing Watson (who IS our offense) probably put the last nail on the coffin.

Is there absolutely anything to look forward to now? We don’t even have the draft as a consolation prize, so I just can’t find the silver lining after these disastrous couple of months...

Building or attempting to build an OL. That's about it.
Through free agency? I hope some decent OTs hit the market because Rick Smith has no choice but to go after the best possible guys out there. I just hope he doesn’t think our offense is this good because our current offensive linemen improved that much, as I feel it has been Watson who has made them scrubs look serviceable.

Sign Kapernick and we can look forward to a season of scrutiny, controversy, ridicule, criticism, praise and a 8-8 record.

Free Agency or the draft. Move up into the 2nd round with a package for an OT. We have to protect Watson and improve our running game.

This is a nice test to see how good of a coach O'brien is. Week 2 he was able to win after a QB change on a short week without TEs. This is a much bigger challenge now. If he can find a way to win games after losing so many key players it will be impressive.

What's going to be higher when Savage gets obliterated and IR'd, # of TDs or # of games started post Watson?

I'm betting he reverts back to "the system" we saw last year.

We can look forward to one of our best remaining players going out for the rest of the season. Seems like a pattern going on here. God I hate Houston football

I probably won't watch much the rest of the season. Watson was the one thing keeping me hooked through all the stupid player BS. I'll watch here and there, but I won't block out my Sundays like before. I've already made plans for the next two Sundays, in fact.

So to answer the question - next year.

Wanted to wait a bit before giving my thoughts on 2018 plus I see little to improve this season. It is also frustrating to read a thread and have to endure pages and pages of back and forth over who is a troll and who is a faithful fan. Often as I did tonight in the Watson #1 pick, I gave up after several pages trying to catch up and looking for productive info not just "gotcha back nanner poo poo." Following opinion is based upon what information on players I've been able to gather last few weeks. Note that as of Sunday vs Seattle I still had a QB in my draft mock (not published) in round 4 and that continues as I do expect Watson back. We of course just need to find ways to keep him on field and as close to his 2017 productivity as possible. The positive news about 2018 Watson as opposed to other injured players we are hoping to see return is his cap hit will not be hard to swallow as will JJ Watt's for example. IOWs we don't have to eat much cap if he is unable to play. I hope you will not come here to blame owner, GM or coaches and we get caught up in that :deadhorse :brickwall::spin::spin: we see elsewhere. None of these guys are leaving especially after seeing Watson's productivity pre 2017 knee injury and reviewing his stats post 2014 college knee injury. The guy is just good and should return fairly good if not record setting/franchise Qb we hoped he could be. At least for 2018. It seems to me we have some very good players that are low costs due to being UDFA's or low draft picks or high rookies such as Will Fuller, Foreman, Watson, Cunningham, Covington, Cole, Ellington, Fairburn etc.

Here we go: I was ecstatic to discover Lane failed physical and we got a 2018 3rd. This gives us three even if all are after apprx 25 th spot. We now have ammo to move up for the right guy. It is another year down the road but having a first, two 2nds in 2019 will be very good.*Note I would not pay what I think it will take to get higher than apprx 15th pick second round (47th) over all. Not taking time to use the trade draft pick points chart this early

I think two of the third rounds plus maybe a 6th would get us to pick 57 ish (#25 second round). LT Tyler Crosby Oregon should be there. He seems to have recovered from 2016 broken leg and thru 7 games this season he has not given up a sack or a hurry. If he starts rest of 2017, he passes the injury test as I don't like bringing in players with that history.

Our first selection [trade] round 2 (#57) LT Tyler Crosby 6'5 320 plays well both run & pass blocking. Alternate would be LG Will Hernandez UTEP.

Round three comp ILB Josey Jewell Iowa consistent tackling machine who covers; which could make him better than Cunningham whom I like.

Round 4 QB Mike White Western Kentucky Round 5 Safety Godwin Igwebuike. I have him rated higher but others don't. Round 6 (two left if one needed for #57 trade) LT/RT Timon Parris 6'5" 310 from little known
Stoney Brook. I don't have him rated as high as Walterfootball.com Round 6 b any of several corners who can also play safety.

Free Agency: 2018 cap as of now is $50 million + more if we clean the roster: Cushing, Newton, Allen, both Millers, Prosch, etc. I think Smith approaches this off season much different than last. Hopefully there will be some significant vets he can pick up. More should be eager to play with Watson, Hop and Fuller.

Trades: I would listen to offers for Clowney, Watt and Kareem Jackson.

I kind of feel free now like a weight has been lifted. I don’t feel obligated to watch anymore for the rest of this season. Of course I’ll catch some action here and there but if I miss most or all of a game I won’t feel like I’m missing anything.

This is how i felt after watching Brock play a few games and then i stopped watching the Texans. Kept up with score, but no obligations. It was a feeling of freedom.

How about we all sit back and just enjoy a victory on Sunday and maybe Tom will even include a passing TD. Then we can all sit back and worry about the following week on Monday. Just take it a game at a time.

3-13

Savage won’t even make it to halftime.

They are not going to win another game.

I told my wife and my son this exact same yesterday. They couldn't understand how our season is "just over" all of a sudden. For the record, I too do not believe they will win another game this year. Browns are going to have 2 very high picks in the first round next year BUT we got our franchise QB.

Rockets are what we have to look forward to.

I'll still grill, drink beer and watch the games. Might be more beer involved though. Maybe some whiskey.

True Houston football fans have skin tough as concrete, otherwise they wouldn't still be Houston football fans. We'll moan, cry, drink, get stoned, watch the game, drink some more afterwards, do more drugs, and then it's Monday again. Hell, we might still make the playoffs so we can get quickly eliminated. Again. My déjà vu has déjà vu all over again.

At least I lived long enough to see the Astros win a World Series. And there's no tropical disturbances in the Gulf. Yet.

But my fantasy team!

I had Hopkins, Fuller, Watson and Miller on my team and they were wrecking it last week. lol

I wish Watson the best and hope he makes a full recovery. He was the only exciting player to watch on this team. :(

Football Sunday and the Texans but no real enthusiasm.

Coming out of TC, when we released Weeden, I said it was a mistake to go into the season with only two QB's. Replies were mostly that it was no big deal, teams go into the season with two QB's all the time. I also said it was foolish to have a backup whose style was completely at odds with your starter's style.

There are now comments suggesting we can use our 3 threes to move up to draft a LT.

We do not have a healthy QB under contract for 2018. Watson will be back, but he now has an ACL on both his knees.

Savage has to start Sunday, but he can't be the QB for the rest of the season. He's gone after this year. We can't make the same mistake two years running. We have to play McGloin to see what we have and decide if we are going to keep him or whether we have to prioritize drafting a QB.

And we lack talent in the defensive back field.

These are a few of my thoughts on what we have to look forward to.

-foreman is in the doghouse and doesnt get to run.
-if we lose doesnt matter because it wont help us get a top pick
-tom savage has the mobility of a 50 yr old woman.

this is going to get ugly very soon.

now is the time true fans show who they are. our team is going to suk donkey arse this year but you better be watching. if you cant handle the texans at their worst, you dont deserve them at their best. if you watch a whole game for a win you better watch the whole game during a loss. even if its a blowout, even if savage suks. even we lose every game this year you better be cheering our texans on. otherwise you dont get to enjoy next year when we get deshaun and jj back.

im a real fan.

It’s already ugly now.

Like I said in the other thread, (which this one should be merged with) we’re not winning another game.
3-13. Savage won’t make to even halftime before he gets knocked out. DHOP and Fuller will coast, looking for excuses to get hurt. Why put in wasted effort. I bet if the players had the option of just saying “F’ck it, concede the rest of games” they’d snap it up in a heartbeat.

Is there going to be like a sign in sheet? How will the fan police know?

Real fans get the team logo branded on their foreheads. Talk about mark of the beast huh?

What are the qualifications for "real fans" status? Is there a written exam? A to-do list to be completed? Merit badges? Minimum number of hats purchased?

I have two hats, 3 t-shirts and an HD antenna to watch them with. Dejection, paranoia, and outrage I mitigate with drugs, alcohol and fajita tacos.

Eff all that 'real fan' bullshit. I won't get into Houston football history, but just with the Texans alone we've had to endure two 2-14 seasons already. I think we've all paid our dues.

I'll always be a fan as long as they are a football team in Houston, but that doesn't mean I'll be a happy, shiny fan, or even a fan that has enough change in his pocket to pay attention.

I'm freakin' tired. Watson was the lone bright spot this season, the one thing that gave us any semblance of hope. Now that's gone, and all that's left is the Savage slaughter, the humiliation of losing to the Titans and Jags, the probable firing of yet another head coach, and a draft that doesn't matter to us until Saturday.

So, what’s there to look forward to now? September 2018, when Deshaun "Skywalker" Watson returns.

It's going to be a long, long wait. Fortunately, the Astros are there for us, and the baseball season has 162 games to offer while we wait.

Watson has made me not care about the draft picks anymore. I used to be upset but we have something awesome in Watson for the years to come. I thought the browns pulled one over on us but nope. Not going to be able to replicate Watson for years to come.

They will probably screw up the picks too.

Ha! The browns!

On Sundays I'll be playing destiny 2 with the Red zone channel running on the tablet

Alcohol consumption won' be affected

Back to the same old grind offensively and all other teams offenses have to do against our defense is throw deep as often as possible and we will lose by blowout in most of the losses we are sure to get.

I'm not going to lie, I've almost become a DW4 fan. Outside of Watt, who was a game changer himself, DW4 brought life to this offense and played the way I haven't seen since the Moon days. Constant attempts down field, moving the ball and scoring touchdowns. I don't want to think about life after DW4, and can't wait till his return. Until then, meh. Watt, Merci, Cole and DW4 out. Gives others a chance to develop, but man...it's a crap year of health. Hopefully a prelude of a strong return and into the upper echelon of title contention! I have faith Watson will come back strong and be ok. Peterson did, several others have in the past few years. ACL injuries aren't quite as scary as they used to be. I miss the offense already and I haven't even seen the bullshit they are going to trot out on Sunday yet. Sorry Hop and WFV, but he will return!
