I disagree. There are no criminal charges against Watson or they would have happened by now. As any civil trial gets closer, negotiations will increase. The civil suits are nothing that money won't make go away.

I have to believe that if the NFL allows a trade to happen, then it means they will not put him on the exempt list. Any team that trades for him will surely do their due diligence and confirm this with the league office. There will be several teams willing to trade draft capital for a proven franchise QB.

I don't think 3 first round picks is too high a price for a 25 year old franchise QB coming into his prime when more than 50% of first round picks are nothing special More Than 50% Of First Round Picks Are Busts And Other Terrifying Draft Statistics (theriotreport.com). We tend to over value those birds in the bush.

How many people remember that Ray Lewis was complicit in the murder of 2 men?Ray Lewis Murder Trial: What Happened and Who Was Involved? | Fanbuzz. And yet he is celebrated as one of the best players ever - even landing a gig as an analyst after his playing career ended.

Texans management has totally (and typically) mismanaged the whole situation. We need to get the most we can for Watson in both draft capital and players and move on.
Civil cases are a team concern because Watson could be away from team activities for periods of time, and in the case of trials, possibly weeks at a time. If this were to occur during the season, he could miss games. Also, once the legal stuff got underway, this is when the exempt list would be used until everything was resolved.

I think it's possible that once he is traded, the check book might come out to make everything go away.

I think the real fly in the soup is the possibility for the criminal cases. Up to a point Watson could have these charges dropped with sufficent dollars paid to the defendants. But if a criminal case goes to trial, Watson is faced with prison if convicted.

Criminal charges could come at any time and I disagree that it's too late because of the backlog and because the investigation is time consuming. I do question on whether there is sufficent supporting evidence.

I think there is too much uncertainty for the Texans to get maximum value. If they are willing to come down to a single 1st rounder, I think a team would bite. But I'm hearing the Texans are standing firm on their asking price of maximum value.

I don’t think it would be the wisest thing to do for the Texans to trade him before next year’s draft order is known. I don't know what next year's QB class is all about, but you've at least got to take a shot to find another franchise QB. I suppose they could always put a package together to move up if need be, but that gets costly, and seeing how the success rate is very low, it makes it very risky.

Watson is not going to play for the Texans. He can go through the motions of reporting to avoid fines, and I don't know how things will go down when actual practices start, but he will not be the QB week 1. If I'm the Texans, I call his bluff. I believe he will eventually no show. The Texans will then be able to discipline him, and ride this thing out until after the season.

I get washing your hands of the whole mess too, but if I trade him now, without knowing where these picks fall, you'd better be giving me the moon, kitchen sink, all of it. Otherwise, just wait it out.

IMO, I don't think there will be a criminal case brought forth. The civil could drag out which I think the NFL may allow Watson to play while it settles out. Enough time has passed for the NFL to investigate and the NFL doesn't need to wait for for any criminal or civil case proceedings to make their decision. That being said, I totally agree with those who believe waiting to the end of the season for a trade to maximize the picks. By trading him now and if Watson plays, can directly lower the value of the picks by him helping his new team to perform well. This would be true for at least the 1st pick involved. We know he has the signing bonus from the new extension, but is his no-trade clause in effect as well? If so, that is still looming over these scenarios as well.

Wait..that cannot be possible! We have been assured no team will trade for W until 2023 if then. I thought there was NO WAY the NFL would allow a trade? This must be preposterous! Right?
Nothing has changed.

The Texans are listening to offers & have set the price. Whoop.

Kinds like just because the Jets had 3 first round picks didn't mean they wanted Watson.

He can't just show up and not suit up. I think I heard that this had been tried, maybe last year, and it wasn't allowed. So my worry is that Watson will suit up, but really won't show up. He'll be dogging it.

I wonder how the team would treat him in the club house?

His punishment would be forcing him to be at the facilities every day, to suit up but then to just stand around on the field, and then to have the team give him the silent treatment or verbally attack him.

The best solution for the league, for the team and for precedent would be a suspension.

This big news is no news. Watson was never going to play for the Texans...........the Texans were never going to retain him. These discussions have always occurred via the back channels. All the questions regarding trade have remained unchanged.............unanswered............and will remain so for an undetermined period of time.

Texans having change of heart about Deshaun Watson’s trade request By Jenna Lemoncelli

July 26, 2021 | 10:34am

The Texans are whistling a different tune.

Houston finally is willing to take calls from interested teams on disgruntled quarterback Deshaun Watson, who requested a trade from the Texans in January, NFL reporter Tom Pelissero said Monday.

The two sides met Sunday when Watson, who currently is facing 22 civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct, reported to training camp for the sole purpose of avoiding a daily $50,000 fine.

“Watson was respectful, but his demeanor reiterated he doesn’t want to be in Houston,” Pelissero reported.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the Texans are looking for “three first-round picks and more” in exchange for the 25-year-old, three-time Pro Bowler, who would also have to waive his no-trade clause.

Why hasn’t anyone considered the fact that Caserio and the Texans might have some insight into the Watson situation and feel comfortable with putting him on the market at this time? Also, we all know that every GM calling to inquire about a possible trade will have to have the same warm and fuzzies to make a move.

If this is the case…..hope you get all that you can Caserio b/c we’ll need it come 2022.

Cant do it if another team doesn't want to trade and right now a trade ain't gonna happen. I hope I'm wrong but I dont see it. Another Florio clickbait piece.

They may have some insight...selling it to other teams is another matter entirely tho. Further, you know any offers they've recieved have likely been low ball offers & i think NC is holding out for more of a return..as he should. With or without DW4, the Texans weren't going to be all that good, so we can wait this out until next year if we need to. Plus the way his contract is structured, I don't believe we start paying him the real big bucks until 2022 so......

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
Trade deadline is Nov 2. Lot will happen between now and then outside of courts. Injuries, performance of philly/Miami qb's etc.

Were I the Texans I would wait. AND I would not put him on the field again. After the off-season he's had I'm sure his performance will suck. All he can do from here is destroy his value (or knee.) Why risk it?

So since that CB Howard from the Dolphins is requesting a trade - what would the Dolphins have to add to make this deal fair for all sides? 2 first rounders? Tua and one first rounder? Still seems kinda low for me but with all the legal trouble, would you bite?

I'm not sure league would sanction any trade with legal proceedings pending. Get his butt off the field and put him on the shelf. He has made it clear he has no intention of playing for Texans again. Revisit again beginning of new league year, 2022. When there will be more teams interested and the bidding will be higher. Even if you could trade him now it would diminish Texans trade value.

For the sake of everyone's peace of mind, Watson needs to go sooner rather than later. He's a lost cause as far as the Texans are concerned. He's simply nothing but a pile of money/draft picks waiting to be negotiated. And a huge distraction they don't need.
The 2021 Houston Texans are huge distraction. The GM/HC/NFL are the ones allowing this DW4 distraction and making it a circus.

I realize it's probably not possible right now, but the sooner they get rid of Watson the better and just get on with things. Jumping the gun to soon will not get us all he's probably worth, but I don't care. If Casino Caserio is worth his position he'll deal with it.

If nothing else it'll give us something new to talk about.

Agreed,

But it would depend on what teams like the Broncos/Dolphins/Eagles are willing to give up. Say the Eagles were willing to give up 2 or 3 1st rd picks, then Caserio should jump all over that.

There will be more teams and higher bids come January. If there was any doubt about just how clueless Nick Caserio is all you to do is watch his presser and DW4 playing defense and catching screen passes today and this should remove all doubt.

I have been in the Eliot Wolf camp for several years. Actually my dream team this year has been Luke Fickell HC, Eliot Wolf GM, Mike Renner - Asst GM analytics.

If I'm Caserio, and I can't receive at least three first round picks, Watson's skills can rot on the couch if he's not going to play for the Texans. He still has a contract.

BTW, I heard Watson played some safety today. And running back, too. Sounds like the Texans are trying to make things as uncomfortable for Watson as he's made them. Either get fined or embarrass him. I don't think they could have made this situation even worse for everyone if they were being run by a bitter rival.

ND said they do that all the times. He also said they’re giving numbers way beforehand. And that they probably didn’t think Watson would show up.

Him showing up was a foregone conclusion , not showing up would be terribly stupid.
Both sides expected Goodell to put him on the CEL instantly ....

Why he hasn't is beyond me , I guess he's making the guy squirm because of the trade demands & the nature of his accusations.

Yeah, I think this seems reasonable. First he’s holding DW responsible for his contract as a Texan and as an employee of the NFL. He’s not putting him in time-out. DW has to face the consequences of his actions both on and off the field. This is business, not a fairy tale rock star creation. I don’t think a trade is imminent. Goodell has recently reiterated that the NFL is taking these charges seriously. The trade chatter in the media has gotten quiet, Jackson seems out of the recruiting business in Denver and where is DHop? NC addressed the Cobb trade rumors in his presser but DW questions were not allowed. Reminds me of those quiet hours before a hurricane’s arrival back when I lived in Houston. I just don’t see how any trade agreement would be allowed in this current environment. When I look at the whole environment I think the NFL is asserting its powers Over an issue they feel is despicable.

Lol safety and RB wow humiliating as can be for the once rising super star QB. This is low of lows and need to be traded soon.

who will take him though…. Got to be the dumbest GM to take on dude with 10 crim cases. I think philly might………

During his next contract negotiation where that may be I can hear him saying hey back in the day I have played running back and safety. I am more than just a quarterback. Pay me!

Wonder where DW would be now if he ate some humble pie and asked for forgiveness and a chance to play out his contract? It perhaps could help with his legal troubles or with public perception while getting rid of some of his NFL issues. Seems Hardin would have tried this approach with him. If he did it’s pretty safe to say DW wants out of here for now.
