Had nothing to do with Easterby. But probably why BO’b had the “Hernandez” talk with Watson.

At the time , it didn't appear to have anything to do with Easterby but I believe it did originate there.

There were several recent reports of the preacher contacting players mothers over character issues. I think its safe to assume that Watson's mother was one of those he contacted which prompted reported call to Janice

It all fits too neatly , what we've heard rumor wise and what's actually happened along with the "not Texans worthy" ideal that's been the tool Easterby has used to manipulate ownership and manipulate the roster.

Is the number still 13.2% or is it now 13.9%?

What might it be in a couple years or so?

Lets put this into perspective.

One QB has won a superbowl while earning greater than 13.2% of the adjusted salary cap in the last 27 years and that guy is .... THE GOAT and his earnings were within less than 1% (seven tenths to be exact) of that magic number.

Really , how far have the goalposts been moved by Tom Brady having broken another long standing record .... by the slimmest of margins ?

I wouldn't worry too much about Cap Space. Teams pay people Goo Gobs of money to deal with it. It can be manipulated with Bonus money and Incentives etc. The NFL even has a "class" for teams on cap space.

The story that's been told was Watson's momma made a call to Janice about the instragram hoes he and DHop were running around with , that it was a poor influence on Watson and that something should be done about it and supposedly Janice gave the orders to OB to get him gone.

What we didn't know at the time was that Easterby was involved.... having had conversations with Momma Watson about the issue prior to the call to Janice.

I'm not so sure how factual all this is but the pieces have kinda fallen into place over time and become more believable when the reports that Easterby having called players mothers about character issues.

This story originated from people in the front office the day Hopkins was moved ..... I think it's fairly likely that there is more truth than fiction going on here , even if the details aren't exact.

So essentially, a bunch of non-football players trying to run non-football playing issues through a football team. And how was this not supposed to go wrong again?

The point stands, change the number to 14% including not likely to be earned incentives.

Yeah, I know. I was just having fun. ;)

I do get the overall point, though. It seems reasonable to assume that using a huge chunk of the cap on 1 or 2 players has to be equalized by lessening something else on the team. That could be depth, starters, defense, etc, but it all comes out in the wash. It's a concept that just seems logical, and then it's supported by data, as well. Until we see a $40 million/year QB win a SB, the point stands.

I really, really hope this comes to light one day in the media. It makes ALL sides look like utter dumbasses. It's absolutely stunning that a multi-billion dollar entertainment company can be run with such a blindingly stupid idea and still be profitable. And if mama Watson is that involved, Deshaun won't be able to escape it regardless of what city he's playing for.

Man someday someone is going to do a tell all book that will be in every Houston household. It will take about 10-15 years for all the major players to be gone and the dust to settle enough for someone to do it but everything from RS as GM to OB as GM to Easterby being brought in to the Watson drama to whatever stupid thing happens next will make a great book. Hell maybe Netflix will do one of those docuseries like Tiger King on it. That would be some good television.

I'd enjoy a 15 minute youtube video on the matter as I still enjoy pancakes spout 40 year old oiler stories...

I think news related to dw and trade reasons/rumors will start to pick up this week. No one wanted it to be overshadowed by the sb. Now that thats done, I expect we'll start to get more leaked info.

Janice did what one mom would do for another. If that was her son she would want another mother to help.

That was her mistake.

She didn’t do what one NFL owner would do.

IMHO.

And it has snow balled from there.

I think it's an eventuality that a $40m QB wins one .... the question will be at that point in time , what percentage of the cap is that $40m ?

Teams are still paying these guys north of $40m smack in the middle of Covid Economics ....

Both Mahomes & Watson were extended this past offseason for record setting money while the cap went down.

QB salaries in general have gone up faster than the cap has over the last 5 or so years too , even mediocre QB's are getting stupid money. Carson Wentz , Matt Stafford & Kirk Cousins will earn no less than $31m in 2021. Cousins will get $45m in 22.

These guys are a comedy of errors .... and No , Watson won't escape it by changing teams , he'll be the laughing stock of the league either way.

I have no problem believing Easterby tried to talk to Watson & was blown off. He then turned to his mother to express his concern.

I don’t believe Janice consulted with Easterby & coming up with the idea to move Hopkins.

Adding the BO’b/Hernandez conversation I can see BO’b coming back to Janice saying, “I tried to talk to him. Nothing I can do.”

I think we'll know more soon.

Wait. I'm trying to keep this straight. I thought the speculation was BO'B spoke to Hopkins about Hernandez. Has it now changed to he spoke to Watson?

Yes it’s all over the place now.

According to Irvin, it was Hopkins and he got offended. Now this forum is saying it was Watson? Geez. It's already a long offseason.

I think y’all are the only ones confused. I followed that it was Hopkins that got the OB “Aaron Hernandez” speech.

You have to draw it out like this:

I will have to disagree with your assessment of Watson. His stats rank him well inside the top few QBs last season.
Most of the blame for Texans poor showing can be laid at the feet of the defence.
Does the assessment of Watson actually matter as far as adding players around him in the next year that could point us to the Super Bowl? Good or Elite he still has to have a team around him and we cannot do that this season.

No. We’re talking about trading Hopkins away. Let’s say someone spoke to BO’b about a behavior issue they wanted him to fix. He went to Hopkins to try to “fix” him. He goes back to tell whoever that he couldn’t get through to Hopkins. They decide it’s best to trade Hopkins.

Yes it’s all over the place now.

It's a circus run by the clowns. :clown:

While the specific details are still vague and unclear, what appears very obvious is that this franchise is as far from being a well-run organization as it can get.

And it was this way well before September 5, 2020, so Watson only has himself to blame for signing a long term deal with the chaos devil.

I think you are confusing Two separate incidents. The Hernandez conversation was OB & Hopkins.

The instagram hoes and baby momma's was Easterby / Janice & momma Watson.

Sigh. I give up. This stuff is like wading through TMZ and not worth the effort of keeping up. Let me know when Watson and his agent breaks bread with Caserio over some BBQ.

Mama don't let your babies grow up to be Texans. They will just hang with ho's you know,

They will hang with Hardens and Jillys and cause PIs to follow them when all they want to do is go to the Picture Show.

Their money may be great and you may get a new car or even a new house.

You may soon begin to hear on the radio about visits to strip clubs, bars without mask and soon

Media will be waiting for you like a cat outside the hole of a mouse.

Mama don't let your babies grow up to be Texans. Maybe they could be a Dallas Cowboy, politician or news commentator. You know somebody that everyone will look up to and respect.

Texans organisation will lose a lot of revenue if they trade Watson - season ticket holders and merchandise sales will plummet.
Janice McNair is not about to let this franchise go down the gurgler.
Watson has no leverage and if he plays hard ball , he will lose a LOT of money.
If he sits out( which I don't think he will,) they can go after his $27m signing bonus and his value will nosedive.
He ain't going anywhere.

I have seen signs that say "trade Watson" more and more. I have heard people at any public place (Lowes for example) saying that he needs to go. Trust me, you teade him and get the pretty pick bundle...1/2 of his fans will forget about him. Why? They will see very good, high caliber athletes coming in and all early picks. Think about 5+ before round 3 ends. All that is all you need. This team has one player people will truly miss...JJ. Due to the great things he has done, the man he is and the fact he gave 150% even hurt.

“Acceptable working condition” is a poor choice of words. NRG isn’t a 3rd world facility where you need a hepatitis or tetanus shot to work at.

Especially because working conditions met his standards enough to sign a contract for the next four years less than six months ago.

Agent got paid on that deal. And now could get paid more on the trade if that plays through.

Coincidence?

No, his agent and his girlfriend are running the show. They are "All About the Benjamin's" and they are going to push Watson to leave. The thinking, more money and endorsements in a market like NY or Miami

Where were you when VY was in Tennessee? That team could go 1-15 & Texans fans would still be made if that 1 was in Houston with VY balling like the best college QB of all time.

If we trade Watson I hope it’s to an NFC team we only see once every four years.

Or this organization learns how to win games against the better teams.

Or, they could trade a future Hall of Fame, future Super Bowl winning QB for a bunch of prospects that never pan out, just like 1,000's of "can't miss" prospects before them.

"Pretty pick bundle"?:spit:

Did you come from the future? No other way to know if a .500 playoff QB will will anything past a division title...and very far from Canton.

Wait.. Are you his agent?

Right. We just saw Sunday that no matter how "elite" the QB is, you still have to have a team around you. The KC o-line was in shambles, which they may have gotten away with had they not played a defensive front like the Bucs, but they did, that o-line was a sieve, and Mahomes all of a sudden looked human. Puts to bed the Mahomes would have been just as good in Houston theory by some.

Watson put up the big numbers, but the team around him was really, really bad, and no QB can carry a team like that. An o-line that looked like KC vs TB all season long. A run game giving you nothing. Not average, or even somewhere ranked in the low 20's, but at the bottom. A defense in the same vein. Just being average in those areas would have had the win totals much higher.

Elite QBs can carry teams, cover up some deficiencies, but you've still got to give them something to work with. Mahomes has been able to cover up the KC defense being average at best, a run game being average at best, but have his protection drop well below average to down there in Texans territory, and the ability to cover up those deficiencies gets to be a little too much to carry.

The Texans need a LOT of work just to get to average in some of those areas, and they don't have the resources to really do much about it right now.

Yeah back then we heard nothing about Easterby .... But the OB conversation was supposedly with Hopkins.

Had nothing to do with Easterby. But probably why BO’b had the “Hernandez” talk with Watson.
By now, I should know curiosity killed the cat or drove the cat nuts. So, last attempt. Is it me or these are not two posts about the same topic (Hernandez) with different players?

Watson would be a fool to leave Houston - like, where's he gonna go?
He needs to give this new regime a chance.
After all, how often would he have to actually deal with Easterby or McNair?
No team is gonna like the cost of acquiring him and if they do cough up a bounty of picks/players, that team is going to be hobbled for a long time.
The way I see it, Jaguars would have the best chance because they have the first and far away most valuable pick but what if they want Lawrence? And keep all their picks?

You claim the Texans will receive high quality starters through the draft in compensation for Watson and I gave my own hypothetical result. I wasn't trying to be difficult, just pointing out the alternative result.

I will add this - if the Texans trade Watson and it goes side-ways for them, Nick Caserio will have difficulty finding a job anywhere else in the NFL. He's still a pretty young guy. This one decision, that others so flippantly think they could make with no problem, could utterly destroy his reputation.

Me personally, I don't care if they trade Watson or they don't trade Watson. As long as Cal is allowed to run this organization it's going to struggle finding and keeping talent. Cal (and JE) will only accept winning under their own conditions. They won't bring in talent that has "character issues" which I find pretty ironic coming from a bunch of self described devout Christians. I'd think they'd want players that have strayed from what they would consider a "moral path" so that they could repair those poor unfortunate souls. Instead, they want nothing to do with the Tyrann Mathieu's and Deandre Hopkins's of the world.

Metaphorically, the Texans are the white BMW sedan I saw on fire on the side of 59 as a drove home from work the other evening. Admittedly, I didn't mind the slower traffic around the car because it allowed me to get a good look. Fortunately, there wasn't anyone trapped in the vehicle and that's where the metaphor between the flaming BMW and the Texans organization ended. And no, I'm not talking about Watson being trapped. I'm talking about the fans, like yourself and many others, that are hopelessly emotionally invested in the Texans. Optimistic that the fire department is on their way right now to extinguish the flames and rescue you.

Jags are not giving up the 1st. One reason Urdan Meyer took the job was because they could get Lawrence.
