10 to 15 years if they play like a Brady, Manning or Brees in that they rarely run and take very few hits. QB that plays like Watson, Mahomes or Wilson tend to have shorter careers unless they have a wall for an Oline.

I think the involvement thing is overblown. Nothing I have read said that Cal told Watson he would get to pick the next GM or even really have a say in it. He asked for his input which can be anything from GM hire to what kind of sushi is the best. It seems to me from the little we know Watson, before or after he talked to others, is the one that thought input would mean he would be neck deep in the process and have a large say in it. Cal asked for input from a lot of people, that whole "search committee" thing, and you don't see them crying about how they were ignored or "some things never change". Besides, as @Texansballer74 said, if he really wanted to be on the front lines of it why grab his girlfriend and disappear down to Cabo.

This is why I believe this crap was staged Maverick ahead of time. Watson and his agent are full of it and I’m surprised the talking heads in the sports world hasn’t caught on to it. Joe and Brett are the only two who has spoken up for the NFL and called Watson out on it. And in my community quite a few are saying these two are wrong and this is not the old NFL and they need to embrace change.
I tend to agree about the involvement thing being overblown.. certainly in terms of the idea that Watson is upset he didn't get his personal pick of GM or HC.
Just how I've heard/see/read the info it appears the front office - Cal in particular - had gone to DW and asked for his 2 cents on the direction of things this offseason, probably ranging from all manner of things like the GM search, the HC search, the culture, etc. DW was told he'd be kept in the loop and up to date on these things, unlike finding out about the DHop trade through social, and the last he'd heard was they were looking into the Korn Ferry list - a list I'm just guessing Watson may have found promising. Next thing he knows the Texans have hired a new GM and it's no one from the list, and he found out once again through social, and it's a guy connected at the hip to the guy he's seen as the culture problem throughout this last horrific season.
'Some things never change..'
Should that be enough to say to hell with this I'm out? Idk, it may not be for some, for some it might. But for this one in particular, who's been as connected as anyone on the planet to the situation, it appears it was.
I see your point and do agree with you but I also see a couple of contradictions. Pancakes said that Korn Kerry was told to keep Caserio off the list because Cal already knew everything he needed to know and was just covering all his bases. Now someone might not believe pancakes and that is completely fair but it does make sense why he was left off the list. Caserio was more qualified than all but one of the canidates on the list so either they are really bad at their jobs or they left him off on purpose. Assuming its the latter I find it hard to believe Watson was shown the list and told "this is who we are looking at" with no mention of Caserio. As far as him finding out on social media he went down to Cabo and from what I read no one could get ahold of him so what were the Texans suppose to do, freeze operations until he could get back? I'm honestly not even sure I buy that he has a problem with Easterby since, as Double Barrel put in his sig, he thanked him by name. Why do that if you have a long term issue with the guy? Though to be fair he named a lot of people that he apparently has an issue with so I don't know what to believe.
All I know that as great a talent as Watson is his current actions are doing more harm than good and its hard to buy the "he's sticking up for the team" narrative, I know you aren't saying that but members of the media are, when nothing he is doing will help the team in anyway.

Maverick you’re spot on here. He needs to take a page from Rodgers. He came out publicly last season to express his frustration with the Packers. Once he got it off his chest, he went to work and hit team went deep into the playoffs. When the media started spewing Rodgers displeasure, he quickly came out and refuted their nonsense. Be a freaking man and stop hiding behind social media and his agent.

I could certainly see Cal not even mentioning Caserio to Watson. For one - it's Cal, for two - he may have just been placating Watson. Not saying either are absolutely true, just that I don't think it's all that unlikely that Cal was just wanting to keep his star qb feeling important and managed to not cover all of his bases, mostly because he doesn't know where all the bases are kept.
As far as finding out on social I doubt DW was blocking texts or personal messages from Cal, just not answering or returning calls. If they sent Watson a message saying it was urgent and about the GM search and he still didn't return anything and they then announced the hiring then fair enough on them and he shouldn't be upset about that. But I don't find it hard to believe with this bumbling (dis)organization that they just went ahead and announced because der da der.
The Easterby in the thanks thing I don't take a ton of stock in. He just received a huge deal and was being generally polite. And if it's to be really read into I don't think a lot of the Easterby/Rasputin stuff was becoming heavily apparent until OB was given the boot.
Ultimately I don't like what's happening just like everyone else, I just know that DW has been as chill as can be and done his job to a tee while the organization has bumbled just about everything it's touched, besides him, until now. I won't judge Watson too harshly at least until I hear him actually speak while the org. has done nothing to earn anything resembling benefit of the doubt.
I appreciate your feedback. I also haven't weighed in much on this until this back and forth, and I respect your reasonable approach, but I'm gonna just sit back and watch/wait for a while so if you put a bow on this by all means be my guest. Cheers, bud.

Well said, and as always, a very reasonable perspective.
I don't put a whole lot of stock in his specific thank you's on social media except for the optics of it all. Not just thanking Jack, Cal, etc., but getting over-emotional and when you read the entire thing, it's like he's in his own little Disney story come true.
How to go from all that to "I refuse to even take calls" a few months later is a disconnect that just leaves a void that the human mind wants to fill.
If he hadn't said all those things and been effuse with appreciation after receiving $100 million he would have been rude.Well said, and as always, a ve after ry reasonable perspective.

Pot calling the kettle black. Favre said either they're going to trade me or give me my hat after he waffles on retirement. Then after 2 yrs, they wouldn't trade him in division and sent to the Jets. He's the last person who should be criticalFarve is right. Players are paid for doing a job. Just like anyone else. However, they may make 2+mil a year to our 50k. Making that much money means you report to work and do the best job you can. Don't complain about things and collect the money. Seeing as others have pointed out, the Texans control him. If they say no to the trade, and he sits, they all but break even this year. They can force him to either play or retire. As Farve said "we get paid too much" and he is right.
I'm testing his resolve and not trading him. There is zero reason to trade him before this season starts. If he decides to sit, you play with the men who show up. Will it most likely be a terrible season? Yes... but then you set yourself up for your own top five pick... and then look to trade him. His value isn't going to drop.
Also, while a change of heart seems impossible, who knows what can happen with time.
I do wish Watson would actually be the leader he is and come out and talk in the open. The dumb and cryptic lyric silliness is immaturity. He is a good person. He could handle this better. Obviously the Texans have been really dumb and could handle this better also.... Watson and the Texans are partners in how this looks.

So many assumptions here.DW was told he'd be kept in the loop and up to date on these things, unlike finding out about the DHop trade through social, and the last he'd heard was they were looking into the Korn Ferry list - a list I'm just guessing Watson may have found promising. This seems far more personal.
I agree, over the course of the entire history of the Texans. But since 2011 they’ve been doing more things right than not, compared to their peers.I won't judge Watson too harshly at least until I hear him actually speak while the org. has done nothing to earn anything resembling benefit of the doubt.
Let's be clear.........Watson was never told that he might even have input to the choice of GM, let alone any significant say in the matter. The subject at hand only related to his potential involvement/input in the choice of HC.I think the involvement thing is overblown. Nothing I have read said that Cal told Watson he would get to pick the next GM or even really have a say in it. Why did he get upset after the GM hire then? He tweeted "Some things never change..." after Caserio was hired. Was that just bad timing? Misunderstanding on his part? Was that tweeted in regards to something else? Just about all of us are guessing here, but it would be interesting to know what really broke the relationship. Something dramatic had to happen at some point.
Then tell his agentHe’s not answering the phone calls from the Texans brass.
You think the situation is salvageable??
Yeah I have to agree.
Brett Favre is in no position to comment. He was one of the worst hostage-taking pieces of **** in sports history.
That guy's talking about a coach .... The blow up was caused by the hiring of a GM , not a coach.
Irrelevant.
It wasn't about him being a backup, they drafted Rodgers because he was waffling on retirement. Then he wanted a trade to Vikings. Let me repeat, he wanted a trade to the Vikings to play under Brad Childress who was once the OC under Reid and was in GB under Holmgren. They didn't want to and traded him to the Jets and subsequently to the Vikings like he wanted.Yeah way after spending 20 years there, a Superbowl, two MVP seasons and a host of records. Dude didn’t want to be the backup either.
DW4 did offer two names he wanted Texans to interview for HC, Saleh and Bienemy. Neither were initially contacted. He did not have any suggestions for GM. IMO DW4 agent saw a way to get foot in the exit door and took advantage. DW4 saw handwriting on the wall and said lets go. I'm not sticking around for another 2 -3 years of 4 -12.Let's be clear.........Watson was never told that he might even have input to the choice of GM, let alone any significant say in the matter. Texans organisation will lose a lot of revenue if they trade Watson - season ticket holders and merchandise sales will plummet.
Janice McNair is not about to let this franchise go down the gurgler.
Watson has no leverage and if he plays hard ball , he will lose a LOT of money.
If he sits out( which I don't think he will,) they can go after his $27m signing bonus and his value will nosedive.
He ain't going anywhere.
I respect sbtexans opinion so I'm open to your idea of a scenario that would convince Texans to trade him.I think you're going to be very disappointed.

I will have to disagree with your assessment of Watson. His stats rank him well inside the top few QBs last season. The scenario that the team will be better with a total rebuild than hold onto DW4 with no draft picks/cap room to build around a good but not great QB.
IF and that's a big if Watson gets traded, teams will be lining up in the hope of getting his services before the others and will bring their best deals - or else. With all the rumors swirling around QB movement across the NFL, I wonder what the Texans strategy is? For sure I think they want DW4 to be their QB, however I hope they don't sit around and let the market shrink (teams with worthy assets) and this DW4 mess ends up in a missed opportunity for the Texans. March 17 is on the clock...

Most of the blame for Texans poor showing can be laid at the feet of the defence.
