McNairs need to sell the team to Elon Musk - he's in Texas now - and let Elon rebrand the franchise with some kind of space theme to tie into the city's history, other sports teams, and his fantastically successful badass company, SpaceX.

Nope, you didn't miss it. ALL of this is pure speculation being fueled by media based on one cryptic tweet that may or may not have had anything to do with the new GM and how the Texans operate.

There's lots of "insider" information being "leaked", but absolutely nothing from Deshaun himself. I take it all with a grain of salt until he makes it official. Otherwise, it's just low-information media personalities trying to get clicks and get noticed.
Do a search of how many of Musk's Rockets have failed and or exploded.

No different than the 2-14 seasons we have endured as fans.

The difference is Musk is now the world's most wealthiest man because he learned, adapted and continued trying, and now his space program is blowing minds and is one of - if not the - best in the world.

And, he never hired Jack Easterby. ;)

Cal just keeps doing the same thing expecting different results. Some call that the definition of insanity.

This is the old line down the center of the paper, listing reasons on the left why Texans should NOT trade Deshaun Watson. On the right side of the line (my position) why Texans should trade Watson. Feel free to to fill out the left side if you absolutely believe the Texans should not.

WHY THEY SHOULD
1. The current structure of the team the Texans will find it extremely difficult to win with Watson for several years to come.
2. The salary cap, future contracts and lack of draft picks almost prohibit any long term success.
3. Texans are currently $20MM over the proposed 2021 salary cap starting in March.
4. Many have speculated cutting 5 to 6 starters to alleviate salary cap problems.
5. How do you become a better team minus 6 starters.
6. How do you replace starters when you have a lot less money to do so?
7. Watson, Tunsil, Cooks will be about 36% of the proposed 2022 salary cap.
8. That equates to approx 72% of Offense allotted cap by only 3 people.
9. How do you get good players to want to come to come and play for an NFL laughing stock?
10. How are the Texans better without JJ Watt?
11. The estimated 2022 salary cap is $209MM, the Texans currently have 26 players under contract at $180MM in 2022. That leaves $30MM to sign 25 additional players.
12. Watson can get out of his contract after 2023.
13. 9 of the 12 starting QBs in the playoffs are first rd draft picks.

That said I would only do a trade with the Jags or Jets. The Texans have to maximize their potential to replace a franchise QB. IMHO only Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson offer the Texans that opportunity and give the Texans a clean slate going forward with the cap space, draft picks and a potential franchise QB.
If Watson demands a trade, you can't limit yourself to certain teams - you have to entertain any option.
For example, getting a NFL ready qb like Jimmy G would be nice - even if he has durability problems.
Imho.

What's temporary? 1 year? 2? Idk. To me, next year is already a throw away season as things stand now.

I dont want to trade Watson but if he IS done with this franchise you have to get everything you can for him...

They'd have to get coaches willing to consider it and they'd have to be willing to go through a complete rebuild.

A reasonable trade as I suggested elsewhere would be two 2021 1st rd picks, one 3rd round pick, and a 2022 2nd round pick. If they trade back on one of those 1st round picks they suddenly have a boat load of draft capital and cap relief to go with it...

Biggest cons would be it took us 15+ years to find a marquee qb and now we trade him. League reputation - who'd want to sign here as a free agent?
To gain 2 RD1 picks in 2021.....it boils down to Miami playing ball b/c the only other team with 2 RD1 picks is Jacksonville and they've got Trevor Lawrence coming in soon enough.

No way in hail does Miami get to haul this organization to woodshed in back to back trades. Watson would cost them at minimum, double what Tunsil cost the Texans.

The more and more I read about Watson being disgruntled, the more and more I get the urge to see him traded. Anyone who has paid attention knows I love Watson the QB. I have defended him in numerous threads. I also think he is a bonafide top 5 QB in this league with massive potential to win it all with the right weapons.

That said, if he is truly hurt over his participation or lack thereof in the selection of a GM, then I cannot feel bad for him. If he think's the Houston franchise is insensitive where it pertains to social justice, I cannot agree with him.

If rumors are true and Miami is a likely trade partner, then I want to see it done.
Watson and Cunningham for 2021 1st (#3), 2021 2nd, 2022 1st and Tua'.

This teams needs draft choices and cap space. This trade alleviates those issues, and casts off a personnel issue.
What would you like to see happen?
I agree with you. We need the draft picks. OB did the team a disservice . He gave away to many of our building blocks. We need to rebuild and regroup and its only fair to Watson and JJ. With these 2 players traded on the open market we should get a good return and be able to compete in the next couple of years .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Jets have two 1st as well.

I would much prefer to keep #4 as he is a franchise qb.
However, IF he demands a trade,
I think 49ers will be on the phone as soon as they hear of it.
If Caserio goes for it, this is my asking price:-
#12 and #43 picks this draft and 2022 1st. Plus they ship us Jimmy G.
To little in return.

It is rumored that San Francisco would consider giving offer similar to yours For the number 2 pick in the NFL draft held by the Jets. Watson is worth much, much more. In a recent trade scenario I suggested Trading Watson to the Jets for the number 2 plus their later round 1 pick and others. Then trading the number 2 pick to the 49ers for a package similar to yours. I enjoyed your post.

Jets do have the #2 and #23 (SEA) picks in the draft. The Jets also have 63M in cap space. Jets could easily become a top player along with the Dolphins for Watson's services since they have both have the draft assets and cap space to make serious offers. I wouldn't want either of the teams misses at QB and would prefer they be allowed to move them.

Of course, this is fun for exercises in what-if's but if Watson wants to push the envelope then Caserio has to be proactive in finding a trade partner for Watson's services. OB just leaves a lingering trail of shite on everything he did as GM.

Yes a trade with Jets has appeal as you could possibly trade back for more picks.

I would not fear a rebuild if I had any confidence whatsoever in those tasked with rebuilding it.

Caserio is a "hoped for", but right now, he's got a lot to prove. The rest of them? I think we all know what's up. . .
I'm looking forward to see who Caserio brings in to fill out his FO. Needless to say, I hope he can lure Eliot Wolf away from the Patriots and between Caserio and Wolf, they could lure Alonzo Highsmith away from Seattle. That would give me plenty of confidence in regards to drafts. All solid young FO guys to go with a young HC like Joe Brady could be a solid foundation for the next 20 years.

Ok. What more do you think we should ask?
First the 49'ers may not be the best team to approach only b/c the cap situation for 2021 is only 14M.

A 2021 RD1, RD2 and 2022 RD1 with Garoppolo as a toss in for Watson would essentially make Tunsil's value much more important than Watson's. I'd have to insist on their 2022 RD2 and 2023 RD1. If the 49'ers wanted to toss Garoppolo into the deal for JJ Watt....I'd add that to the contract. I believe both Watson and Watt would probably be good with joining the 49'ers organization. Garoppolo would have to sign off on this trade as well since he to possesses a "no trade" in his contract.

I think the Texans could eat Garoppolo's dead money hit of 2.9M while getting him on the market right away. If he approves, I'd move him to the Patriots who I believe would have some serious interest for a 2021 RD4 and conditional 2022 RD3.

The biggest issue, would all 3 players agree to the moves and would the teams be willing to pay the Texans asking price?

I think the Jets have 2 #1s in 2022 also.

I have a hard time believing other teams want to get caught up in this fiasco. This is a deep QB class. No reason to give up too much for DW4. Let's hope they figure it out and he stays here. I am getting NO news from Kirby

It's not deep with Watson type of NFL ready QB's. Dolphins and 49'ers are the most ready for a Watson. I think Watson would like both destinations. Jets on the other hand would be a harder sale but could gain momentum with the right GM/HC hire.

Also someone on this message board suggested demanding defensive end Quinnen Williams from the Jets
Williams, Mekhi Becton and their later 1st round pick (1-27?) for DW4 + a couple 2nds and whatever 3rds you can squeeze them for.
But I think this gets worked out with DW4.

Interesting and my guy Becton surprised some but you probably have to trade Tunsil. I'm ok with that or one of them goes OG or RT. I want 1.2 from Jets to either get a QB or trade for more picks.

Becton, Williams, 1.2, 1.23 , and 2.35

Watson, Watt ,Cooks, Mercilus and Tytus Howard.

I want 1.2 and 1.23. Howard and Tusil stay in Houston. We get Becton AND Williams. Jets get Watt to soften the blow of losing Williams. Becton, Tunsil and Howard solidifies our OL for the next 8-9 yrs. NY gets their QB for the next decade, they're going to pay for HIM just like you pay if you trade for Marino in his 4th year. Texans use
1-2 and 1-23 to get us a QBs And #1 WR in this years draft. I thought Mac Jones looked pretty good last night and could be had at 1-23. I don't watch too much college football so I may be way off. Take Devonta Smith (should make us forget about Hopkins) with 1.2, or trade down a bit if that's too high. Give them Mercilius and Cooks if you have too to make it happen.

Houston gets - 1.2, 1.23, and 2.34, Williams and Becton.

Jets get - DW4, Watt, Mercilus, Cooks. Throw in Fulton OR Kelemente if we need to.

Now you're talkin! The only minor disagreement I have is I would pick Zach Wilson or if there Trevor Lawrence at 1.2 and pick up in my mind the best wide receiver Trace Marshall at 1.23.

Seems to me you get more excited at the prospect of evaluating and drafting players than you do winning football games. You're practically drooling at the idea of trading Watson in hopes of getting some prospect. Unreal

There's a lot of trade "wishcasting" going on right now by some folks that are just not fans of Watson. Which is fine, not everybody is going to like the current Texans quarterback regardless of his play. I still give the chances of trading Watson close to 0%.

Given we just came off 4-12, have no first or second round pick to ease the pain of that, are in cap hell and possibly in a fight with our franchise QB its a little hard to be excited about the prospect of winning football games.

Agreed. One way is to trade DW4 & receive a plethora of picks.

Another way is to fix the cap, including future contracts at the appropriate time. We won't be the first team to win the Super Bowl with a QB on his 2nd contract.

To me, it was an agenda that started with the dislike of Watson from the start. This thread was created long before the rumors. The rumors only flamed the flame of excitement for some.

I will never understand the logic of trading your franchise QB, especially when it took you 20 years to get one.

The logic is you are trying to win championships not collect big name players. I will never understand why people are so against just asking "what if" any successful business should always be asking themselves that question with no sacred cows. Doesn't mean you do it but if you close off even the thought of it you are limiting yourself.

I'm an extremely pro Watson Texans fan. As I've mentioned in the past, I'm a good person but the blood in the veins can go ice in an instant.

A smart GM (not sure if Caserio qualifies yet) would be prepared (proactively) for two potential outcomes:

1. Watson and Caserio finally have a sit down and come away excited for the 2021 season.

2. Watson refuses to sit down with Caserio and/or Cal b/c he feels betrayed and demands to be traded. This cannot be a reactionary situation for Caserio and Cal. If this is the card that is forced.....then it has to have been planned for and played fast.

Personally, I go through the trade ideas not b/c I want to trade Watson but based on the information that's being circulated. I'd be a fool not to prepare myself for the worst while hoping for the best.

I’m not against the what ifs being asked. I’m not even against trading him if it comes to pass.

I don’t like those reveling in the idea. I don’t agree with the idea that it’s the only way to fix the teams problems, or the best way.

I think we can put the “betrayed” thing to bed. After Andre laid it out, this is about Easterby & his influence on the organization.
The Easterby thing might be put to bed as well now that Caserio is the new GM.

Now, if Easterby is at the table during any planned GM / Player discussion then there may very well be a problem since I could see players walking out of meetings before they even start if he is in attendance.
