Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

You mean they have to prove to a jury that he did....you're saying the same thing but using different words. Good try though

No he's not saying the same thing and if you think he is then you've never dealt with the legal system. If Buzbee or in a criminal case the DA CONVINCES a jury that even if the hard evidence isn't the greatest the circumstantial evidence is strong enough then they can get a ruling in their favor. This is where the shear number of women works the most against Watson because a case can be made that gets the jury thinking "You know the evidence may not be there but Watson is rich and famous so he could have had it covered up and could this many women really be lying?" If Buzbee or a DA gets that thought in their head it will be very hard to get out.

This isn't a movie where its all about the facts guiding an impartial jury without preconceived ideas. There is a reason many law firms keep a lawyer on staff who's only job is jury selection.

Yeah, I think Watson deserves to have his truth told, but the team is going to suffer majorly because of this. It's likely he ends up on the exempt list, and Houston will have to make the tough decision to cut him. No way can we afford to pay him while he sits out.

Either that or they need to come out in strong support and stand by him, which is unlikely.

Why should they, Watson tried to completely screw them over and if they do support him and then he is found guilty in civil or criminal it makes them look 10x worse. So from the Texans point of view what possible benefit could it be to them to come out in strong support of him?

I did not recall that he was part of the McVay defense team. What I do remember is his representation of the Big 8 accounting firm in the Enron mess and also his rep of Roger Clemons.
Anyway I was surprised that DW4 hired Hardin who is now 80 years old and also doesn't seem to have any experience in the legal area of the Watson "situation".

Yeah you might want to do some research on Hardin, Watson hired the absolute best person in Texas to defend him.

Can you read? That's why I said it's unlikely.

In order to convince someone of something, you have to prove it to them first. The entire jury will not sit back and say, yeah you didn't prove a thing but you somehow managed to convince me of something. That's utter non-sense.

Can you read? That's why I said it's unlikely.

I am asking you why should they support him because you clearly do.

If you can't understand the subtle difference I'm not going to waste time explaining it to you.

Show me one recent post that I proclaimed the team should stand by him...I'll wait

And again, you are trying to be coy, but the reality is, they need to prove Watson did something wrong, which they claim they can. If they prove it, then they will have successfully convinced the jury. Hell plenty of guilty people are found innocent because they couldn't prove their case. It's part of the failed justice system.

If Hardin discovers any of these women allowed Watson multiple visits....then he "might" be able to make a case for consensual sex. How does an accuser explain a second or third visit if they were traumatized after a first visit? I'm not saying there was a second or third visit b/c I'm not privy to all the evidence.....I'm just saying there may be additional angles to look at before we try to throw the switch.

I'm not trying to support Watson, b/c I find him to be an idiot for putting himself in this situation to begin with and regardless of what may or may not have happened, but I still question the timing and the attempt to seek a payoff based on threat of going public. This is what it looks like right now.......money over being sexually traumatized. Buzbee is in the same mode.....hey Watson, just give us lots of hush money and this can all go away. Which one of these women or collectively have the income to afford Buzbee and his staff? Buzbee is taking this case and I'm guessing he has an agreement in place to help himself to 35%+ of the civil suit or settlement which makes me think Buzbee has also put money ahead of sexual assault.

Actually not has hard an argument as you might think and Buzbee has already put the foundation for it in there talking about Watson making threats to their careers and how the women feared getting fired or having a famous athlete blackball them in the industry. The other thing is it would only apply to a few of the cases. It's just like if criminal charges are brought, DA doesn't have show all of them were forced he just has to show one was.

The same argument goes to the women......why ddn't they go to the police? Watson has pull with who? Are these Insta-Gram Masseuses strictly available to the professional athlete crowd, where Watson "may" have some influence? If so, why would they have the need to advertise on Insta-Gram? If they're that coveted, word of mouth would keep their schedules booked. Also, Buzbee is claiming these women allowed additional visits to Watson b/c he threatened their way of life?

Again, Watson was an absolute idiot for putting himself in this situation. I know the NFL indoctrinates these rookies right up front as to how important it is that you're fully aware of your surroundings and the folks you let in. Like I said, Watson is facing one hellava life-lesson for something that could've been 100% avoided.

Ok.....a conspiracy theory. The Texans FO is too stupid to come up with this "Destroy Watson" game plan. You know who isn't? That same person is in dire straights QB1 wise? This individual is devious as his years in the NFL have proven.....essentially win at all cost.

Belichick plants his minions into this gullible and idiotic organization like the Trojan Horse. They destroy Watson's NFL value. Belichick will grumble and call Caserio and let them know he'll take Watson off the teams hands at a bargain basement deal b/c he's just a great kind of guy. He'll even offer to throw Newton into the deal just to take some of sting out of the fact that Cal (nudging from Easterby and Caserio) accepted the offer of (2) RD3 picks, (2) RD4 picks, and (1) RD5 pick.....just to rid himself of the Watson Wake.

Caserio and Easterby quit at the end of 2021 b/c they say that working for man/child Cally Boy is unbearable. They return to the Patriots organization to the cheers of fans. Seemed somewhere along the way, Watson apologized, got counseling while willfully serving his NFL suspension, and Belichick brought him in on a re-worked contract.

I don't think any single franchise is capable of a conspiracy of this sort. Too many moving pieces.

That said, there is something else to ponder in that light: NFL owners do not want their league to become player-driven like the NBA. And Watson demanding a trade just months after a massive contract would be a fundamental shift in the NFL that would immediately set a precedent and example of how to get your way as a star player.

If I were to go down any conspiracy rabbit hole, I'd wonder if the secret services of the league have been investigating Watson's activities and have somehow managed to connect the dots so his reputation is ruined, he will most likely get a suspension of some sort, and he's simply not going to get his way. The Texans and Goodell hold ALL of his cards now.

Just something fun to think about, not that I'm advocating or believing it. But, there is billions at stake here, and money has a funny way of influencing the filthy rich and powerful to protect their interests.

:tinfoil:

Normally I don’t care for Pancakes reports but he broke that down pretty well so props for that to him. He also brings up a very good point that I think is getting over shadowed, even if all but one of the cases is thrown out and proven false, it only takes that one.

McClain or Florio's report? John was posting a PFT article.

Agreed, but something's are more important than football. If he's guilty fry his azz.

I just hope he loses all of his money at the least if this case gets settled out of court.

If he's guilty, throw the book at him.

But regardless if he's guilty, football fans have short memories and as long as he can play ball, he'll eventually be back and making more millions.

Society has a way of looking the other way when someone still has some entertainment value left in them.

Why I think DW4 is GUILTY. A normal person in search of a massage would hire a reputable professional masseuse to visit or come to their home or business. If you like a deep tissue massage you would go back to to the masseuse that met your satisfaction much like a barber or a hairdresser. I would bet DW4 has one person who cuts his hair, not 24. You wouldn't be flying people in from Atlanta. You wouldn't be visiting 24 masseuse, barbers or hairdressers. There is a pattern of behavior here and so far they all portray DW4 as a sexual deviate and predator. This on top of the fact he had a masseuse at his beckon call from the Texans training staff. DW4 had something he needed to hide.

I'm not gonna' lie, I'm trying to stay objective, but the sheer number of cases certainly makes it extremely difficult to avoid coming to a conclusion.

Regardless of Buzbee's tactics, you'd have to really go out on a limb to truly believe he's got 16+ women willing to testify and commit perjury.

Something clearly happened that puts Watson in a really bad light. Even in the 'best case' scenario, dude has a sex addiction that needs treatment. But that's the best case.

Worst case is that he's a serial sexual predator. And if that is revealed to be true, may God have mercy on his soul because many of us won't.

I dunno but it's looking more and more likely that the Texans come out of this whole sordid mess with nothing, zippo, nada, goose eggs !
With this thing dragging out who knows how long, and so much uncertainty as to a resolution, the Texans may well have to cut him outright, even though I think Watson is ultimately playing in the NFL again, but not until the 2022 season

I hope they stick to their guns and eventually get something for him, even if it's just one 1st round pick.

Then they need to plan to build a new stadium far from the ancient burial grounds under the Astrodome. Or sacrifice something to the football gods. Or both. :voodoo:

People keep saying this "why didn't they go to the police" I'll tell you this most of the time the police do nothing in these kind of cases. Oh they may take a report but if a random woman comes in and says she was assaulted by Deshaun Watson and she doesn't have complete, undeniable proof, something which is almost impossible in these kind of cases, if she's lucky they will just write a meaningless report and say they'll look into it. If she's not they may even threaten to arrest her for filing a false claim. Sad to say but in this imperfect world going to the police isn't always the best answer.

Disclaimer time so that a few on here don't lecture me about how Watson is innocent until proven guilty. The following is talking about sexual assault as a broad topic and may or may not apply to the Watson situation.

Opt. I don't know how much you've dealt with sexual assault or harassment cases but often times the implied threat and fear of what a person could do is far greater than what they actually can. In many cases the woman's own mind builds the power of her abuser up so much that they are almost king like in the power they can wield. In other cases the person actually convinces themselves that the abuse is their fault or a sign of affection. Its why women that are abused continuously go back to their abuser or stay in a situation where they will keep being abused. Its easy to stand on the side and say well why did she go back or what could Watson have really done to her but fear is a very powerful thing and perceived power is a very powerful factor. Its not just women either, though that tends to be the vast majority of sexual cases, but in other areas lets say someone rich and powerful says they will ruin your life if you don't help them with something illegal. You know they have money and fame you can never hope to match and so your mind builds it up to the point you believe they really might could ruin you. Then you start thinking about your family and the people that depend on you and its builds up more. Before you know it they completely own your mind and all they did was say a few words.

You want an example of why these women might not go to the police or why they would fear what Watson could do to them then just go look at any social media on this at the hundreds defending Watson and calling these women everything under the sun. Even on here the message from some is "We've got your back Watson" and particularly hammering how he is innocent until proven guilty. Thats true he is, but if Watson wasn't who he is and was just an average joe and 16 women filed against him ask yourself if anybody would be talking about having his back or how he's innocent until proven guilty or would they be saying lock the scumbag up?

Next ask yourself this, if someone of Watson's fame posted on their twitter "I contacted Jane Doe about a massage and the ho tried to feel me up. Bro's stay away from that slut because she ain't just giving massages." what would that do to even the most legitimate business or he's calls a manager up and says "Yeah Jane Doe was absolutely horrible and tried to touch me beyond a massage. If you want me or any of my friends to ever have a kind word to say about your place again and not tell the world you're running a whore house you will fire her today." you don't think she would get fired?

Regardless of Buzbee's tactics, you'd have to really go out on a limb to truly believe he's got 16+ women willing to testify and commit perjury.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure some of these women did have a consensual relationship and now are trying to get a payday. Based on the sheer numbers, unfortunately, I would tend to believe that some women did have stuff happen to them that was not consensual. Does that rise to the level or civil or criminal liability? Time will tell. I have a hard time believing that nothing happened and all of these women are lying (even if some or most are).

The same argument goes to the women......why ddn't they go to the police? Watson has pull with who? tou do know most rakes and assaults go unreported. I was 19 when it happen to me and I didn't go to the police and neither did any of the girls I know either because it was a popular football player or shame or fear or because it was assault but not vaginal rape. Women don't report. Someone you know and love has been assaulted and not reported I promise you but it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

“My second reaction is a question: why would his marketing agent admit Watson had sex for pay with a massage therapist, consensual or otherwise? We will also provide a copy of the non-disclosure agreement that Deshaun Watson and his marketing manager repeatedly insisted that Jane Doe (and others) sign after (and sometimes before) the ‘massage session,’ which she refused to sign. I do appreciate Mr. Hardin’s professionalism and his words of support for victims, but would respectfully suggest there are many facts here, that we will put in public filings, that Mr. Hardin might not be aware of. We will provide additional details in a statement, consistent with our ethical obligations in due course. I’m hoping we can do so by Friday.”

The only case I can remember Hardin having somewhat similar.............Calvin Murphy indecency with a child/sexual assault.................but this was a single accuser...........and taking a child to court has its own unique inborn difficulties for the prosecution, in favor of the defense.
Cowboys star receiver Lance Rentzel was charged with exposing himself to an underage girl. Not sure whatever happened with that.

What a tougher NFL personal conduct policy means for Deshaun Watson
March 24, 2021Updated: March 24, 2021 1:01 p.m.

Deshaun Watson’s trade request and the Texans’ decision to sign Tyrod Taylor are not directly connected.

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, facing 16 civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault and harassment, is also being investigated by the NFL under a stronger personal conduct policy that could lead to at least a six-game suspension.

The NFL’s investigation, which could take longer than the civil cases, is being led by Lisa Friel, a former prosecutor and chief of the sex crimes unit in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Friel was hired as a senior vice president and special counsel for investigations by the league in 2015. The job was created after the league was criticized for how it handled a disturbing domestic violence case involving former Baltimore running back Ray Rice after he was captured on surveillance video knocking his wife out with a punch at an Atlantic City casino.

The Rice case is regarded as a watershed moment in the history of the NFL personal conduct policy.

Under the NFL’s since-enhanced policy, there’s now a baseline suspension of six games without pay for violations involving assault, battery, domestic violence, dating violence, child abuse or sexual assault. Even though no incident reports or criminal charges have been filed against Watson, he’s still subject to potential discipline if the league finds there’s credible evidence that a violation occurred

THE REST OF THE STORY

I wonder if Chad Hansen is caught up in the fallout on this.

I know Caserio is operating a GIGO philosophy right now, but I thought Hansen was a rare bright spot last season and may have escaped the rearranging of the deck chairs.

A curious cut at this point otherwise.

Cowboys star receiver Lance Rentzel was charged with exposing himself to an underage girl. Not sure whatever happened with that.
Rentzel was eventually given probation with mandated "therapy." It was actually his 2nd such incident, the first being while with the Vikings where he exposed himself to 2 underage girls.............he pled down to "disorderly conduct."

Hearing two of civil case plaintiffs are pulling out and opting to go over to criminal charges. Up to 26 women.

Is there a reporting source for this info, or did you get it from inside?

Not doubting your post in the least doc...just very curious in how this is playing out.

If I recall correctly- Ezekiel Elliot was suspended for 6 games for being abusive to his girlfriend that left marks on her arms and face. It went to criminal court but was dropped for some reason.

6 games. 1 woman.

Why would they want to get out of the contract ? - They don't , they want him to suit up and play for them.

He’s already told them that he doesn’t want to play for them. So, what are going to do, force him to play, when he doesn’t really want to be here? How’s that gonna fly in the locker room?

But hey, don’t let that get in the way of the conspiracy theories, right?

One woman did go back. From what I read Watson apologized to the young lady who’s a lesbian. She again told him she’s not interested in men. ( Paraphrasing) Watson still made advances and told he no woman had ever told him no.

It doesn’t matter if 16,000 have filed.

The question is why NOW all of a sudden? You don’t find it a little odd that this all happens at the very time that he says he doesn’t want to play here anymore?

I don’t find anything to be ‘normal’ anymore.
Actually, his team claims he was being blackmailed in right before his trade request. Yeah then he went back to soliciting on Instagram

Maybe the reason why Watson wanted out so suddenly was because he knew his day of reckoning was coming. He's only got himself to blame for this mess.

Why now:

Watson signs new contract in 2020.

He celebrates by getting massages from 20+ people on Instagram.

Someone actually found the courage to say something. He did it to someone in 2020 and that person tried to settle out of court in 2020 and Watson refused. Now here we are.

IF Watson is innocent, if he caves to that someone in 2020, what is to stop other women finding out and doing the same thing - whether they have a genuine grievance or not?
In this scenario, he is caught between a rock and a hard place.

according to the statement released my Watson - the first woman approached him in mid-January and then two weeks later Watson requested the trade....seems a little sus on Watson.

May not have noticed but at this rate locker room won’t have to many that will have ever played with Watson. Plus Texans maybe the only team he gets to play for because as of right now no other team would touch him even if they could tell this finishes.

And you don’t find it odd that Watson demanded a trade right after signing a new contract and having his big emotional moment. You don’t find it strange how no one, including on Watson side could give a reason as to why he wanted traded just some song lyrics and vague tweets about loyalty.

Here’s the thing cases like this you don’t just wake up one morning and run down to the court house to file them. Buzbee has been building this for a long time and even Watson said he was contacted last year.

Which is more likely, Watson got wind of this and tried to hightail it out of town or Texans convinced double digit women to lie, a top level lawyer to risk his entire career and reputation by filing a false suit and all this just to keep a QB from being traded.

I've been keeping up with this story since the beginning. I've been keeping up with this thread daily and listening to more sports radio than normal. The only thing (well, one of the only things) I think I know for certain about all this is that Watson likes to have sex with a lot of different women.

The other thing I know about this is that if the sexual assault accusations about Watson are found to be true, even one of them, my fandom for the Texans (and by default the NFL as a whole) is over. It's been chugging along on life-support anyway for several years, this will be enough to kill it for good.

Are you suggesting that the McNair's set DW4 up?

You've called them incompentent. (So have I) So I dont think there's anyway that the McNair's could've pulled this off. You must be a QAnon guy. LOL

Do you realize if the McNair's did this and got caught they would probably forced to sell the team. You think they would risk that?

Even if the McNair's did what you're suggesting, it doesn't matter, DW4 did the acts (Allegedly) and for this he should have to pay financially (Signing bonus) plus if convicted he should do jail time like any other convicted serial sexual assaulter. (And as many yrs as any other person who committed these crimes would've gotten.)

If it comes to that, what will have been the pinnacle in the teams history? 2012 was the best team for me.

Been saying this from the beginning. For those who don't understand how these cases go and keep begging the question to Buzbee......."Is that the best you've got?"...........something Watson/Hardin's camp would hope would be what the public would walk away with..............Be aware that in such cases, the initial filings do not divulge all the pertinent details..............that comes later and with depositions.

One of them did have a second visit but in that second visit she did not know the identity of the client .... She found out only after arrival and told him up front no funny business which she claims he did anyway.

\Why would you let a turd take away your love of football?

I guess you dont love the game like some do.

IF Watson is innocent, if he caves to that someone in 2020, what is to stop other women finding out and doing the same thing - whether they have a genuine grievance or not?
In this scenario, he is caught between a rock and a hard place.

He should have never put himself there. He should know better.

Drinking driving, unprotected sex, lying on a resume.. etc. We all know the consequences.

:tinfoil:

McClain or Florio's report? John was posting a PFT article.

If he's guilty, throw the book at him.

But regardless if he's guilty, football fans have short memories and as long as he can play ball, he'll eventually be back and making more millions.

Society has a way of looking the other way when someone still has some entertainment value left in them.

I hope they stick to their guns and eventually get something for him, even if it's just one 1st round pick.

Then they need to plan to build a new stadium far from the ancient burial grounds under the Astrodome. Or sacrifice something to the football gods. Or both. :voodoo:

We are exactly on the same page with this.

DW4's looking to change the NFL power structure is what lead to the NFL looking into DW4. He was a known philanderer. Who would've thought he was a sexual predator? (Allegedly)

Can we sacrifice ownership instead?

Lol that’s not why the NFL is looking into Watson. After X amount of sexual accusations being filed is the reason why the NFL stepped in.

The front office's next hire for sure
