Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

I

Thought most thought Cleveland and DW had all leverage? The car sterio did rather exceptionally despite no trade clause.
He did, but that doesn'y mean Nick didn't get a good deal. I mean, Nick set the parameters for teams and excluded teams in division. When it 1st started, my opinion was Cleveland was the best place to go if Watson wanted to win. They have a top 7 roster, the 2nd youngest roster, and cap space. Going to Atlanta or Carolina would've been beneficial to the Texans because if he missed major time, those teams will be terrible which equals a high draft pick for the Texans. Even if he doesn't play for the Browns this year, That team will win 7 or 8 games with Brissett. I wonder what Titans or Colts would've given up ,but Nick decided those weren't options. Saints package seemed like it would've been interesting also.

The contract itself can be voided on the premise that he lied to both the Browns & NFL during the investigation leading up to its signing.

I think it's very likely that the Browns would go after that if Watson gets a suspension of 2 or more years.

One year they will eat ....

I think intent matters here.

Everyone knew Watson was going to be suspended and the Browns went out of their way to see that he didn't suffer as a result of his own actions.

Highly unethical
do you think NFL would support a move by Cleveland to void or teach them a lesson?

That's a tough question. I'm not happy this happened. A lot of people were hurt and lives were changed. But it did happen, and I'm glad the team came out of this with the chance to start fresh.

Nobody is happy this pervert was out there stalking.

I cant believe you aren't glad that the truth came out and Derrick has been proven to be a phony from his public persona to his getting baptized in the River Jordan. He's also proven to be a really dumb individual.

About the biggest thing I could get excited about regarding this case.....Browns are permitted to void his contract in accordance with his "potential" indefinite suspension. Unfortunately, as part of the lesson for Haslem and his Browns, they'll receive zero compensation for the trade with the Texans. Live and learn as they say.

I would rather the Browns get that cap hit every year and Watson suspended indefinitely without pay... he only gets paid if he's on the CEL, and he won't be

What was Carson Wentz traded for ? He had a better year than Mayfield and Baker was coming of an injury. The Browns didn't have any leverage once they entered the Watson sweepstakes. Look at the 49ers and what they can't get for Jimmy G.

You and I both know Wentz has been down hill since missing the playoffs the year the Eagles took it home and there were lots of reports coming in that his team hated him and he hated them. Plus like you said Baker was injuried early in the year and played that way all year but the year before he took the Browns to the playoffs for the first time in years. You can't even remotely compare Wentz and Mayfield.

It’s going to be a moot effort. No new evidence can be presented.

This isn't a court of law and doesn't function that way. Pretty much at this point once it was decided that yes Watson did do what the NFL accused him of the NFL and whomever they appointed were given a blank check. People can talk about the union filing an appeal or a lawsuit or whatever but fact is they signed over the power for Goodell to do exactly what he is doing so most judges wouldn't even hear the case.

Titans or Colts wouldn't have been able to go much higher as league rules say you can only trade three years worth of picks so no one could beat the three 1sts themselves and outside of that extra later round picks tacked on wouldn't have been worth making a division rival better.

Terrible that it happened at all .... hopefully outing his dirty laundry has stopped him and won't hurt anyone else.

That's the best we can hope for.

Too bad none of the criminal charges stuck.

Except he doesn't believe he did anything wrong so why should he stop? Its not like that mandate of only using team therapists is really that enforceable nor that the Browns will try as Watson has already shown that he will sit out on a team that makes him mad no matter how much money they throw at him. Honestly though if I was Watson I would worried that in the future he may truly get women that only see a law suit opportunity because now there is a track record and all they have to say is

"I wanted to believe him because there were no criminal charges and I thought it was just the media attacking him and the NFL mad that he wanted a trade. So, while it may have been stupid, I decided to trust him and booked the appointment then he (insert whatever act will be easiest to prove or most believable) and I asked him to stop but he didn't and afterwards I couldn't stop crying. I know it was stupid but that doesn't give him the right to assault me and now I know the other women were speaking the truth."

Yeah it practically writes itself.

3 1's and 3 2's and maybe more would have been tough to pass up

I wish the truth had come out sooner.

Does open up the question of when did this actually start? Not talking about the lawsuits but even before that, Watson didn't suddenly wake up and develop a fetish. His reputation at Clemson was perfect, nothing was even hinted at for his first 4 years in the NFL and the idea of him doing this was so unbelievable that it wasn't until it hit double digits that most people started thinking it wasn't just the Texans trying to torpedo him. So when did it start? Was it covered up at Clemson, did Hopkins really keep him under control or did once he realize that he was a made man in football and a national name the money and yes power went to his head? We'll never really know the truth but I do wish some old school investigative journalist could deep dive into this.

No team was going to offer that for a QB that has never made it past the first round of the playoffs. Wilson, Rodgers, Big Ben the year after they won their superbowls and were still in their prime then maybe, Mahomes right after his big win definitely but not for Watson.

Colts may have after last year...
Titans too after Tannehill's meltdown
We'll never know
I was just responding to your comment that he brought all that he could when a couple teams were not given the opportunity to bid

Suspended players salaries do not count against the cap, since they aren't being paid. Bonuses given prior to the suspension do count against the cap.

This appeal is not in a court of law. But the NFL is not a fief, either. Together the NFL and the players made a legal agreement. And if one party believes that agreement has been violated, they can take the issue to court.

The current agreement has never been taken to court. There are many (such as yourself) that will emphatically state what will happen when this does go to court (and if there is an indefinite suspension, it will). Just like they said Watson would be indicted and convicted. Just like they stated that Watson would get an indefinite suspension from the arbitrator. But no one actually knows. Not the NFL or the NFLPA. Not Rusty Hardin or Tony Buzbee. Not Mike Florio or any other reporter. Not the "Tweeters". Nobody.

The answer is Clemson trash doing their thing.

Old school investigative reporting is way too much to ask for these days.

Maybe Watson believes he didn't do anything wrong. But, he now knows he did something that can get him into trouble. Whatever comes out of Watson's mouth right now is what his lawyer wants him to say.

In all my years in medicine, studying and experiencing the psychology of mental pathology, I find that this type of pathology virtually always reveals itself repeatedly................given time, sooner rather than later............with or without counseling.

Could've gotten a player maybe. I'm not tripping on the package, I'm just saying best package means from everyone.

I have wondered quite some time now if this is why his first girlfriend is no longer around?

Jimmy Haslam: Browns will “respect and honor” the Deshaun Watson appeal process
Posted by Mike Florio on August 9, 2022, 11:13 AM EDT

Last week, the Browns issued a strange statement in the aftermath of the decision from Judge Sue L. Robinson, who suspended quarterback Deshaun Watson for six games. The Browns, among other things, seemed to be trying to get the league to respect her ruling. For obvious reasons.

Now, with designee Peter Harvey considering the NFL’s appeal of the matter, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is embracing a step that the team had hoped the league wouldn’t take.

“I’ll just say we’ll respect and honor the process,” Haslam said at the league meeting in Minnesota convened for the purpose of voting on the purchase of the Broncos, via Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

The Browns also were ready to “respect” Judge Robinson’s decision. The league, which embracing her factual findings, have disregarded her ultimate decision, believing the league believes it didn’t go far enough.

The Browns also insisted that Watson has shown remorse. Judge Robinson found that Watson has not.

There’s one sliver of overlap between management and labor in this case. The NFL Players Association and the Browns both want to minimize Watson’s absence. Remorse or no remorse, player and team want player back on the field.

Still, the Browns know that their broader interests require them to behave as one of the 32 member organizations of the NFL. They’ll “respect and honor” the appeal process. They’ll also likely dislike the outcome.

That said, there’s a silver lining for the Browns in the possibility of a full-season suspension. A 17-game ban would toll Watson’s contract for a full year, extending his commitment through 2027 and dropping his base salary in 2023 from $46 million to $1.035 million.

The fact that the current agreement has never been taken to court does not change the precedent mandated by the Federal court...............resolution of disagreements within the NFL will be kept within the NFL.
This agreement has language the prior agreements did not have. It's a new agreement and I think the NFLPA will have their day in court.

I'm not predicting the outcome. I would think you would be on the side of caution with your record of predictions in the case.

I have no idea what this has to do with my post. The post I was replying to was talking about the appeal that the NFL is doing that is overseen by a Goodell and saying that new evidence could not be submitted to it and my point was with the appeal here the NFL can basically do whatever they want. If and when it goes to an actual court of law then there are rules that must be followed but in the current situation the rules are what the NFL say they are and it was the union that gave them that power.

Others have said that no way would the Texans receive what they did get from Cleveland but it happened.

I think that was based on the idea that Texans wouldn't play hardball and that line of thinking is understandable as they never had before. In reality what the Texans got from Browns wasn't much more than we would have gotten from any other team that was in the running and maybe not as good because Falcons or Panthers are more likely to be drafting top 10 than Browns. Caserio set the ante as three 1sts to sit at the table and he stuck by that. Whatever else he does as GM at the very least he showed that the team could play hardball and I give Cal credit he seemed to just hide out with his video games and let Caserio take the lead on it.

The NFLPA and Watson would have to show cause that such a violation occurred or irreparable harm, amongst other factors. They can’t. He can’t. The NFLPA already stated the process was fair. That statement alone would have any such court throw a lawsuit in the garbage can.

I guess that's case closed. I mean you've been spot on, so far.
