I think that was his point. Rick Smith paid Os, do you think anyone else would have?
Right.3900 yards and 24 TD / 12 INT on 64% would make him about the 10th best QB in the entire league. Expectations might need to be a little bit more realistic.
Yeah, those stats need to be associated with accumulating wins and not playing catch-up and falling short.Right.
If he achieve that, the Texans would better sign him to a long term contract - providing he also meet the other criteria ( winning enough games, etc.)
Well the Broncos were going to, but you didn't really here anyone else going to throw their hat in the ring.
If Savage has the stats that I noted as my target for a franchise QB, you bet your a$$ I'm willing to tag him for one year.So you're ready to give Savage $19M? Next year's QB tag is going to be a little more.
You ready to give him $15M after one good season?
Well... How's the Savage fairing so far?
I know it's early but I haven't heard or seen anything on him.
He's not hurt again is he?
Nobody is doing anything for another week or so. Camp starts on July 26th.Well... How's the Savage fairing so far?

You'll have to interpret for me what "haul off" means, for this "old" guy. Or is this just some crazy auto correct error which sometimes happens.Yeah but the real news is that will he haul off DeShaun Watson on the bench in 2017?

I thought he meant "A less injured Savage placed 1st round draft pick in a fireman's carry and 'hauled him off bench' to the dressing room as the injury cart was already in use." Savage was diagnosed with coma but then returned to field for one play then his coma 'returned'.You'll have to interpret for me what "haul off" means, for this "old" guy. And reports out of camp say he is getting out of the huddle quicker and is getting the ball out quicker. This is to be expected with repetition and familiarity.I'm rewatching late 2016 for the umpteenth time and I'm still impressed with Savage. He was slow out of the huddle too often and held the ball too long, on occasion but made good decisions a vast majority of the time. Showed good accuracy, arm strength and decision making. A bad OL doomed Savage against Cincinnati.

I hope we have a Drew Brees Philip Rivers situation.

A #4 pick and a pro bowl #33. Not likely.
So would Savage and O'Brien and maybe a fan or two.He looked like Osweiler did at the beginning of the season. Too early imo to form an opinion. I'd liked to have seen him play out the rest of the season & into the playoffs to have a good feel for his trajectory.

Somebody above O'Brien's pay grade made that decision. Finally, a little information regarding the infamous Savage concussion protocol has been written and it seems awfully unusual for a QB too injured to play for the rest of that game (season) suddenly has all the power and coherence to obliterate a white board due to some kind of frustration....hmmm!
What do the Texans do if Savage has a 4,000+ yd, 2:1 TD ratio and 64% completions? He looked like Osweiler did at the beginning of the season. Too early imo to form an opinion. I'd liked to have seen him play out the rest of the season & into the playoffs to have a good feel for his trajectory.
If they're smart, they keep him as the 2018 proven starter. But we're talking about the Texans here and............What do the Texans do if Savage has a 4,000+ yd, 2:1 TD ratio and 64% completions?

Don't worry, OBrien will bench savage after one bad game or loss.
This is the guy who benched both Fitzpatrick and Hoyer for Mallet.
& started Osweiler for 16 games.
Anybody tell you they know what O'Brien is going to do is talking out their arse... I'm fairly certain O'Brien doesn't know what he's going to do.

My expectations are that Savage plays 16 unless injury & he helps Hopkins to top 5 Fantasy WR season.
Yeah. I mean, he benched Hoyer after one half after a long drawn-out training camp competition where he couldn't decide who to start.
Then he finally benched Mallet by using the wind getting knocked out of him as an excuse.
And many point to Fitzpatrick's season as evidence that OBrien is a good QB coach. And yet he was benched for Mallet too.
I think it's safe to say that Mallet is a much worse qb than the other two, but O'Brien saw them up close and still thought otherwise.
Then it took him forever to bench osweiler, then gives him the job back just because savage had a concussion.
I can't trust him when he contradicts the scouts by saying Watson is accurate or he is way ahead of other QBs he's coached.
Then you had our owner who said we didn't need to draft a QB high and our team didnt need a franchise guy to win a title..opps. so we were just running the "Journey man carousel show". McNair is the one who should be past the "making mistakes" point, he's been here since the beginning. (Rick Smith too)
Get rid of McNair and Rick too. I am good with that.
Watson's inaccuracy has been on most scouting reports. Even Rick Smith mentioned it (I assume he got this from the scouts)
I think you have this one backwards - McNair was parroting OB not giving a directive. Before hiring OB McNair said something akin to fixing QB was job 1. Then OB got here with his anti-rookie bias and the line became we don't have to use a high draft pick. 2 years of OB yeoman. And McNair, still acknowledging OB's rookie aversion has Smith sign the top FA. That didn't work and he said f'k it, time to draft a prime QB.
At least that's my surmise.

How was giving up #25 and about same in 2018 to move up to #12 overpaying? If you think you have a possible franchise QB, you go get him.Exactly. And Obrien realized it too, falls in love with Watson because he's a winner, and overpays again
Point is we weren't winning games because of them..if they didn't shoot a hole in the boat our defense had a chance to carry us to victory.
Then you had our owner who said we didn't need to draft a QB high and our team didnt need a franchise guy to win a title..
Well then it's Rick Smith's job to tell his new head coach "No we're going to draft a QB", but nobody will know exactly how those decisions were truly made.
Exactly. And Obrien realized it too, falls in love with Watson because he's a winner, and overpays again
Or maybe his GM said, "No, we're drafting a QB."

Ozzie Newsome wiffed on several before landing Flacco. If you whiff on a QB that usually gets people fired but since Teflon Ricky is invulnerable I don't know what will happen if this doesn't pan out. The odds of O'Brien ejecting on his own are more likely than Ricky getting fired if Watson doesn't pan out.
