Ryan Mallett traded to Texans

I'll say this one more time, so that everyone can get it:

#1 I wanted Kubiak gone
#2 I am fine with Obrien (not ecstatic)
#3 My beef is with McNair for not waiting to interview anyone else
(and going with an impulse hire)

I'm not a hater, I'm just not willing to develop carpal tunnel working
the handle of the sunshine pump just yet.

I know there are a lot of guys on here that are tickled shtless
that we are "on the right track", blah blah..

But I'm going to wait for some results before I anoint this team a
contender again.

As a lifelong Houston sports fan I'm sick of
getting kicked in the junk every time I think we have a franchise
(in any sport) that's supposed to dominate and ends up at the
bottom of the heap because of whatever reason.

I'm the fan that saw Gordy Howe play, had Comets championship
game tickets -- watched Phi Slamma Jama live.. I can still smell
the stink of Oilers v. Bills in the debacle in Buffalo

I'm not going to join the circle-jerk of BoB fanboys and internet
crybabys (all those complaining about "repping" on retarded crap like that)

I come on here to follow the team, get legit news about the franchise,
and have well thought out discussions with the small group of folks
who are actually willing to discuss stuff..

Not the bandwagon of unicorns farting rainbows crowd that loves to
get their vaginas hurt every time I say something they don't like..

Are you bitter because Kubiak was finally fired?

It's obvious to me that you don't care much for BOB. Why is this?

Translation - didn't interview the guy you wanted.

Love it or hate it, I saw nothing impulsive in what they did.

So he should have brought in others for interviews even tho they weren't his first choice?

What makes you think it was an impulse hire?

Do you have an insider that let you know this? Did you tap the phones so you know without a doubt they didn't talk to anyone else?

1. He hired Dom and Charley and they were the first people he interviewed

2. He hired Kubiak after having Reeves as an advisor (no conflict of
interest there)

3. The buzz over Obrien was at completely un-deserved levels at the time
and the only other person of note they interviewed was Lovie (and I think
that was purely racially motivated)

It was an impulse hire because there was another former superbowl
coach out on the market and the reason he wasn't considered
(according to sports talk radio and news at the time) was that his
team was in the playoffs and we wanted to give the new coach
more "time" to put his system in..

Absurd!

McNair locked in on BoB with laser vision and didn't blink. I didn't tap
any phones. I just saw how it played out and kept the BoB colored glasses
off.

BoB turns out to be a great coach then good for us, good for the team,
and good for the city. But if he doesn't, then hello more years of
mediocrity.

BoB is off to a good start with the win over WAS. I give him props for
that. I think he is a better motivator than Gary ever was. But one win
doesn't mean we're on the path to sports nirvana.

We deserve better than that as paying fans. You think this crap would
play well in philly or boston? No, and that is why we are considered a
bad sports town..

I actually get more pissed at the a$$-clowns on here that go all hissy
because I don't join the BoB parade. It's like half of the folks on here
are so rah-rah! Monkey fricken see, monkey fricken do!

You are more than entitled to your opinions. I don't beef you for that.

I think it's great we got some non-band wagon guys.

But you guys need to open your eyes. Just because I'm not going to
get into the teenage girl clique that has named BoB the second coming
of Lombardi doesn't mean that you guys are somehow "better fans".

Forums are supposed to be the open expression of opinion. That's why
they are called forums. Sometimes this place feels like a members only
sports bar and folks drop their "shocked face" look when someone comes
in with a thought that isn't main stream..

Jeezus!

Like I said, I didn't mean he doesn't have talent. I am just saying when you get a QB with a 7th round pick in about 99,5% of times he won't ever become a valuable starter. There are a lot of teams with no franchise QB and a lot of teams that could use an upgrade. Even for teams like the Cowboys, the Jets or the Titans it would be a no brainer to give up a 7th round pick for a guy that could be a franchise QB. Look at the Seahawks, they didn't have a QB so they signed a "big" FA and drafted one. If any team had the illusion of Mallett being a great starter for them, they would have easily offered a little more than what we did.

Franchise QBs are hard to come by. I'd say only perhaps 15 fanbases are really comfortable with their QB. Most of these QBs were drafted high or created some buzz when they entered the league. All we have from Mallett are unimpressive preseason tape (which doesnt mean too much) and unimpressive 4 NFL passes.
There is a huge disparity between Mallet's perceived value among fans/media and his actual value among NFL personnel. While most QB situations are "settled", there were NFL teams with a pressing need at QB that didn't take a flyer out on Mallett during the offseason. Mallett was linked in many trade rumors to several different teams over the past couple of years - not just the Texans.

Trade rumors featuring Mallett had teams offering anywhere from a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him. Teams probably view Mallett as a fringe back-up QB at best. The guy has been in the league three years backing up/learning from one of the greatest QBs in the history of the game and all he can muster for the Patriots is a conditional 7th round pick in 2016. He was out-practiced and out-played by Jimmy Garoppolo. As one NFC executive put it, "he can't help you this year, so why not just sign him as a free agent".

I truly hope Mallett, if the opportunity presents itself, lives up to his potential. He does have a strong arm. Perhaps the Texans can help him find the consistency that eluded him during his time with the Patriots.

2. He hired Kubiak after having Reeves as an advisor (no conflict of
interest there)... I don't see a fault in hiring Kubiak, he had been considered as deserving by many for years

3. The buzz over Obrien was at completely un-deserved levels at the time
and the only other person of note they interviewed was Lovie (and I think
that was purely racially motivated)... you can have your opinion, many thought he did an outstanding job at Penn State and felt him ready...

(according to sports talk radio and news at the time) was that his

I don't have a schtick, and you didn't bother to pay attention to
what I just wrote.

I have _NEVER_ said anyone was wrong for supporting BoB..

Right now it's a 50/50 shot that BoB was the right hire. Although I
beg to differ about 8-4/5-7 at Penn St. (in a week BIG) as being
a resume for the Texans job.

We can both keep our fingers crossed and hope it works out for the
best.

I'm just tired of having to defend myself against the juvenile
cabal of guys on here drinking the deep steel blue koolaid.

Take a look back at the threads I'm involved in. I didn't start
personal crap. I just made observations.. The other 50% of my
posts are responses to guys that are butt hurt about what I wrote..

And the other coach I was referring to was Wisenhunt, who's team
just beat a playoff team in the first week of the season.

I think my main gripe against BoB (who may still prove me wrong)
was that he scrapped the entire coaching staff and changed everything,.

I wanted to fix what was broken and immediately be competitive again
(like KC did last year). We have assured ourselves at least another 2
years of average to below average football because we are starting
completely over.

I wanted to take advantage of Dre's last few years and Foster before he
breaks down.

Does that make sense? I'm not rooting for anyone on the team coach/player/etc.

I'm going to hazard a guess he is talking about your martyr schtick.

There's all sorts of disagreement on this MB but you continually play it as 'you against the oppression of the monolithic MB.' It's inaccurate and old.

With 20/20 hind site hiring Belichick looks like the perfect hire, but back then I'm sure there was more head scratching than hand shaking. & until they won it all with Brady they, like Philly were the poster child of mediocrity.

NE had already been to 2 SB's before Brady sniffed the field

and Philly 1

They were not the poster child's of mediocrity, the Oilers, Browns and Saints were

..
That's pretty much what the "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" thread is about. A lot of new stuff for sure, but it looks like OB is taking advantage of the similarities between Kubiak ' s way & his. Even defensivley, we're doing more of what Wade was doing (albeit it's only been one game) than traditional 2 gap stuff.

Being mediocre is being average or ordinary. That describes the Pats franchise prior to Brady. Not the worst, but not close to the best. As a starter, Brady has a 77% winning percentage. That's better than 12-4 a season. And the Pats are one of the most valuable franchises in sports.

I don't know what this has to do with Mallett. But if being around a winner helps, Mallett has had the most help he can get.

Get onboard!

It's funny to me that with all the differing opinions on here that some people think this board is full of "sunshine-pumpers" and "bandwagon" fans if they disagree with their expert opinions.

In the 7 years prior to Belichick, the Patriots had 2 sub .500 records, 1 8-8 season, 3 seasons of double-digit wins, 4 times to the playoffs, and one time to the Super Bowl.

Their coaches during that span were Pete Carroll and Bill Parcells.

If that's mediocre, I'll take it.

I'll take two division titles & two playoff wins in the last three years, but for some... if you ain't won the Super bowl you ain't done squat.

& wasn't that Belichick ' s team that went 8-8? Which is more to the point.

No. Pete Carroll got fired after that 8-8 season. Then Belichick came in and went 5-11 his first season. 11-5 + Super Bowl his second season (which started 0-2).

Can't believe anyone actually tries to have a logical discourse with speedfreek, he is either a troll or just doesn't have any sense at all. I have him, Seegara, and Norg on my ignore list because they're all basically horrible posters.
