They gave Fitz a $1.2M signing bonus, so if we cut him, there will be $625K dead money. He's got a $3.2M salary, so that would come off the books. All together, there'd be an additional $2.6M in cap space.
Savage's injury isn't going to keep him from OTAs... in fact, Fitzpatrick's injury will keep him out longer than Tom.
Fitzpatrick's place on this team was as placeholder. I still don't believe he gives us more of a chance to win than the next guy. He was on his way out of the league when we found him.
I think Mallett & Savage give us just as much a chance to win as Fitz & there's untapped potential there that might work out well towards the Texans' future. I'd add another guy with prototypical size, a strong arm, from a major program in a major conference to the roster... someone like Bryce Petty with his "success" at Baylor would be nice.
From here on out, we need to be looking for our QB of the future. Fitz... done served his purpose.
