Why would the Texans have spent 4.5 million dollars guaranteed on Fritz in the first place if he wasn't any better than Keenum and Yates?? I don't understand the logic. Why do you guys think they brought in Fritz? Doesn't make any sense if they don't plan to play him.
I think things change. One minute, they're thinking one thing. The next minute, they're thinking something else.
We were paying Sage Rosenfels $3M to be the back up to a guy we just gave $8M to prove he could play in this league after he proved 4 years running that he could not. Once we ran that $8M zero out of town, the Texans went & got a $7M/yr guy to start ahead of the $3M/yr dude.
$4.5M (8 years later) for a back up is not unheard of.
So for all I know, he was brought in to be the back up.
We were not going to give the job to Keenum, we were going to make sure he had someone to beat other than Tj & a 4th round rookie to get the starting job.
But the plan was probably always to carry two QBs. Keenum, Fitz, & a 6th round pick (to undrafted FA) on the practice squad. But OB fell in love with Savage & used a 4th on him instead, so now he's got to make the roster, leaving no room for Fitz.
If Keenum returns, then we've got basically the same offense we had last year plus Su'a-filo.... it's not a rebuild, as far as Andre is concerned. We make him happy, he comes back being the team guy he's always been.
But we're rebuilding the defense.
