Ravens @ Texans AAR

Great posts by both posters. I think one of these takes are correct. We won't know until the offseason, but there is going to be a mutiny in the fanbase (and possibly in the locker room) if they don't make some changes on the offensive side of the ball that isn't just player personnel. As fans, we like to ***** about obvious issues with the team, but think about the players that actually risk their physical wellbeing on a week to week basis? Do you think you can keep giving max effort when you know your offense is set up to fail and the opposing defense knows what you're going to do before you do it? I don't think so. Cal may be a little "dense" at times, but I don't think he's going to let this slide.

Demeco has been given a ton of input on this team, but I think they are going to give him the "Bob McNair forced Kubes to hire Wade as a DC/de facto HC of the defense" treatment, except for the offense instead of the defense. Or they shitcan Bobby, which is still definitely on the table. Either way, the offense looks like a turd sandwich without the bread so something needs to be done.

Thank you for the compliment! I don't see how it's just one of the posts ending up being true though. I don't think our opinions are complete opposite at all. I said "might be" not "will be"

I guess I kind of took the approach that Demeco is either going to be overly loyal or will ultimately set that loyalty aside to save his own job. Sorry if I bastardized your post!

Nah you're good! I just don't think it's a competition between the other poster and myself in our viewpoints and was clearing that up if anyone took it as such

Demeco is gonna lose this locker room if it hasn’t already happened. After that shitshow yesterday I say he’s lost it.
Demeco had a chance early in the season to gain the respect of the players by benching tunsil for repeat false starts but he did nothing. He lost the locker room then. Not surprised tunsil is posting pics of his shoes after getting embarrassed on Christmas day. He knows demeco will not hold him accountable. I dont blame him, I blame Demeco. Like a spoiled kid, it is the parents fault.

I'd like to think that we're only a couple of offensive lineman and a receiver away from competing for the AFC Title next year. We're night-and-day better than we were two and three years ago. I'm happy for that.
Unless one of our starting Corners goes out or our starting running back..

They can’t status quo this offense. Major changes will be made imho. What those changes are remain to be seen but I am in favor of dumping most of the coaches and shaking things up pretty dramatically.
I'm on the Josh McDaniel for OC bandwagon. He knows how to run a successful offense and I think his style would play to CJs strengths. Plus he's flamed out twice as a HC, so we probably don't have to worry about losing him.

Something I heard triggered this thought... the coaching inexperience is really showing and all the other teams are taking advantage of it.
The Ravens came into this game with one of the top rushing attacks in the league and a mediocre passing offense. So to start the game instead of stacking the box and forcing Jackson to beat our very good secondary Ryans came out with the soft zone and let them run it down our throat. Did he ever adjust?
On offense the Ravens came in with the leagues top rushing defense and a very poor secondary, so Slowick comes out on the first drive and tries to establish the run against a stacked box and put Stroud in long yardage 3rd down plays to start the game. Teams know that pressuring Stroud limits his effectiveness so they run stunts and blitzes all game. Does Slowick ever adjust with blitz beaters or any other plays to slow the rush down? I didn't think so.
Is anyone besides the fans doing any self scouting? Doesn't anyone in the Texans organization see what's happening or do they just blame the players for missing assignments and reads? Who is going to fix this?

Well he did run that WR screen multiple times. I don't remember seeing it that often in such a small time frame.

Then he faked it once & got a good RB screen to the other side.

So basically we overthought things and made it very complicated. While Coach Harbaugh and company said, “ hey we’ll let them beat themselves and get an easy win in the process “.

I’m finally getting to this…entire family in town and together for the first time in 10 years, and 2 grandkids we haven’t seen (2 yrs and 9 mos old)…and there really isn’t much to get to.

1. Offense has continued to suck arse. Again, it’s OL- One…Slowick- Two, CJ- Three, and Play Calling- Fourth.
2. Defense can handle their own, but there’s a limit to how effective they’ll be when forced to be on the field for an excessive amount of time. Defense just played out in 2nd half knowing the offense would never get anything going.

I really don’t care how the Texans win or lose against the Titans. The summary of this season will be in their WC game. As always, I hope for the best.

So this is all Tunsil's fault.

LMAO

I honestly don't think he's a good human being, and I've basically never said that about another living person (I think).
What makes you think this?

He's very kind hearted to children, probably because of his mentally handicapped child. People who are good to children are generally good people IMHO.

Or missing wide open receivers with inaccurate throws.

Look at the start of the 2nd half. 2 straight throws, one inaccurate and the other inaccurate/intercepted. What's an OC to do.

So the offensive woes are all CJ's fault.

LMAO :fingergun:
The offensive failures do fall on Stroud/OL/Slowik.

But this game was mostly on Stroud not being able to hit the broad side of a barn, cant hit a simple 3 yd pass/turn the ball over etc... the OL wasn't perfect, but protection wasn't a big issue in that game. How many false starts/sacks has Tunsil given up since Patterson took over at center? BTW, Howard has played well above my expectations since moving to LG.

He'd already been beat to death in the first half
Stroud sucked

Defense wore down
Not saying Stroud didn't suck, the entire team sucked. Just pointing out what teams have been doing to the Texans all year and what the Texans have been doing to themselves all year. Worst game I've seen all year and I commented in the game thread to 'fire everybody!'

Are you saying the Texans weren't badly out-coached?

There are some sad things in life, my reading comprehension fortunately isn't one of them.

He hadn't been beat to death. 2-3 of the sacks he took were very Carresque. Running out of bounds behind the LOS when he easily could have thrown the ball away. There's something mentally wrong with him this year. Last year he would have never done that crap.

Yes, it was a team thing but with Stroud playing the way he's playing this year what's Slowik supposed to do. I say this wanting Slowik to be replaced with somebody that has more experience. This way the org will know whether to re-sign him. I think Stroud and Carr were, are playing comparable right now and that's why we're having these discussions all over again 2 decades later.

But yes, it was a team effort of crap.

I believe the failure of the OL was the biggest contributor to CJ’s sophomore regression.

The Texans rolled the dice big time thinking they had the makings of a top NFL OL this season….unfortunately this never materialized.

Slowick’s management and execution of his offense was horrendous. Fans need only look at 2nd half point production to know this to be true. Red Zone TD’s were missed with enough regularity,it became normal to see Fairbairn warming up even before the offense reached the Red Zone.

CJ must get some blame, but I ask myself…how much should he shoulder? Does this slump even happen if the OL plays up to full expectations?

I've pointed out before, what's Slowik supposed to do, cant run the ball and he's working with a QB that has lost his confidence/accuracy. Good news is

1. There probably will be a new OC
2. New OL coach
3. New players on the OL.
4. New skill position players

I point this out to say if these things happen CJ's on the clock. Play better or no extension. I just hope they aren't in Carr/Moon situations. There should be an uneasy feeling because the signs are there. Hopefully Stroud can turn things around with the changes I listed above.

CJ should be on the clock in year 3.

I give him all of year 3, especially under new leadership and an improved line.

Id actually like to see firings now. IF we are going to make a showing in the playoffs like the Ravens game... use the playoffs to see what new blood brings.... not the same leadership that got you to 31-2.

I like CJ and want him to succeed. Slow maybe great but he sucks with Stroud. Stroud may be a future HOF QB but it seems quite clear he aint getting there behind this line and under Slows leadership.

The root cause to what we’re seeing today all started with the horrendous offensive line play earlier this season. Meco and company waited to darn late to make any changes. When they did the damage was already done. We allowed 8 horrendous sacks to the sorry ash Jets. If you paid any attention at all you would’ve saw CJ’s moxie all jacked up from that point on. Smart defensive coordinator copied each others game plan. They saw the Texans couldn’t stop simple stunts. They stacked the box, and started shutting down the cut back lanes.

It’s a strong chance we’re one and done in the playoffs. I don’t see us fixing those many issues in 2 weeks.

Or Stroud sucks with Slow…..Because he wasn’t a problem last year.

So you’re telling me all it took to ruin CJ’s confidence was a few games?

We all know exactly what your agenda is around here. The only thing you see is DM and that’s it. So there’s really no reason to answer your question here.
I used your own words. You are saying all that it took for CJ’s confidence to deteriorate after a great season was a few games.

Agreed, except he's been fairly well protected since the NYJ game and has been missing open throws. What worries me most is his childish antics aren't the actions of a championship level QB. I mean maybe this is the reason he never won any game of significance at OSU.

Hope I'm wrong, but this year is giving me the same bad vibes I got from Carr. Hopefully they fix the ol and give CJ a decent TE, WR to work with next season and we'll find out these answers. I'm pretty sure Slowik won't be around to find out what these answers are.

You do know teams have film on both Slowik and CJ correct?

You do know Slowik is terrible at making in game adjustments and after the half adjustments?

That’s what changed along with very bad offensive line play.

Thus the reason why I said he hasn’t been the same since that game. He’s been sacked 22 times in 7 games. I haven’t did any research on how many times he’s been pressured.

They better do something different because what they’re doing now isn’t working.

IF I knew exactly what the problem was Id make sure the Texans hear me out and Id be getting paid.

I can only guess.

Id say same problem as when teams get film on QBs.

When you know their tendencies and you know they generally don't adjust well.... youd know the tendency of what will be called.

Add predictability to a bad line and a QB with diminishing confidence... it's not generally a recipe for success.

I think Slow, line and CJ are all the problem in their own ways.

All of the problems show up in every game but just in different concentrations.

I think with different line coaching and better play calling CJ can... maybe regain confidence in his coach and himself and tap into first year CJ again.

IF not then we know CJ is not the answer.

He's mentally weak is my point and this isn't saying I'm thinking Slowik should keep his job. Film or no film, there are receivers open and Stroud's been missing them.

BTW, I'm just not into mentally weak people. People who are at the top of their fields generally can keep their emotions in check. Imagine a guy like CnD performing surgery on you and being as mentally weak as CJ is.

Who are you to tell another man how to handle certain situations in life? If that’s how he is, then let him be. Nothing wrong with another man showing that type of emotions after a friend/brother gets injured in the manner that Tank did.
Mentally fragile QBs do not last. Injuries happen and are a part of the game. If he cannot handle that to the point it shakes him up and cannot overcome it he should not become the highest paid QB. It can’t be wrong for Caleb Williams to be a crybaby but not Stroud.
