Preseason Game 2 Thread: Texans @ Rams

RiotCommander said:
Are you watching the same game I am? Carr is struggling but Mario is pressuring the passer a lot. I think he looks much better this game.

Serious. Looking ALOT better than he did against the Cheifs.

please tell me you are kidding, we have seen all of 1 and 1/2 preseaon games with mario, a little early to label him a bust

I can't watch the game, but I thought by the sounds of things Mario was having a pretty good game, can someone give me a summary of Mario's play so far, thanks

Prior to this game I thought Lundy would be the starter going into the season but Morency has really impressed me tonight with his running and especially his pass protection. I think his blocking for the most part is what will catapult him into the starting role ahead of Lundy. Domanick Davis can kiss his starting gig goodbye IMO. Morency and Lundy will be our 1-2 punch with Morency getting the bulk of the carries.

I agree, carr is struggling, but he has completed 58% of his passes, so the "carr cant hit the side of a barn thing" i dont buy, he has made some bad throws and mental errors but saying he cant hit the side of a barn is a bit of a stretch

2 tackles

batted pass

good pressure...looking good to me.

rofl... they just showed highlights..

they showed Carr being sacked, then Torry Holt catching the long ball.

If you take one of Carr's incompletions and make it a 21 yd. pass for a touchdown, his QB rating for this game would be 105, instead of 75. That's what's wrong with David Carr.

He's a dump off passer. Most of his passing yds. were from run-after-catch, from what I gather.

Carr - 10/17 for 99 yards - 5 different recievers
70 yds rushing

Rams - 11/20 for 146 yards (2 QBs) - 7 different recievers
17 yards rushing

Ball placement has ALWAYS been Carrs problem. His recievers have to make up for it

Does any body know where I find a site that has the game on stream? All this talk about Morency really makes me curious to see.

Its not just that. Morency isn't a rook, that goes a long way. Lundy will be a big asset to this team, but needs to learn ALOT and should be eased in quite nicely.

either 610am or 790. I think they would have it on their website.

Hey, whats going on with Moulds??? I haven't heard of Carr passing to him yet...Did i miss something???

That is true..what is going on there. I have only Carr passing to Andre and Morency for majority of the 1st half

Hell, even if Texans win this game, their STILL going to show Carr getting sacked....Just so they can prove a point...

okay, Kris is not allowed to try a field goal unless it's 40+ yards out.

Maybe there is something to that.

Only 2 kickers in the league had lower percentages in the 30-39 yard range than Kris Brown.

That's an area you have to make them.

That's fine, but until you're at every minute of practice, like the coaches, none of us have a clue.

I still stand by my statement that if anyone on this roster other than Carr is starting QB, prepare to be picking at the top of the draft again next year.

Earl Campbell was the worst practice player ever. He would fall down running simple 4 cone drills. If what you say is true, Campbell would have never taken the field. You are also saying the coaches picked a #2 QB that has no hope of winning. As I recall reading Kubiak recruited him aggressively. So, I AM showing faith in the coaching staffs decisions based on performance.

Yes, and a few plays with Mario getting blocked.

Its halftime right now so your fine for awhile. :) He has looked much better then Lundy. And I really thought Lundy would be 2nd behind DD. Morency is basicly the same runner Lundy is, but he isn't shying away from contact when running or blocking.

I'm watching on the nfl game channel...I guess visual is better then nothing, and these guys here are soo wonderful giving such excellent descriptions...

NEW GAME

Reggie Bush drinking game.

If they say His name.. you take a shot.
If they say Marios name during a saints game, but not while playing the texans, you take a shot.
If they say the Texans made a good decision on taking Mario over Reggie... you finish off the bottle in 30 seconds.

One thing we haven't seen this week is the designed rollout or naked boot. We ran it a lot last week.

So far encouraged by Mario and the defense in general. Some pass coverage glitches but the run D has looked much better.

Not thrilled with Carr's performace tonight.

4 of the 10 completed passes to AJ. Maybe Moulds is doing part of what he was brought in for - keep the double team off AJ. Moulds is in, just no catches yet.. and probably not the rest of the game as most likely 2nd team comes in after the half.

no streaming (according to one website) due to the NFL and having to pay for nfl pass. (9.95 for a month or 39.95 for a season )

Since I'm on Gamecenter:

Offense

QB
Carr: 10/17 - 99 yds

Bulger: 7/13 - 86 yds
Frerotte: 4/7 - 60 yds

RB
Morency: 7 for 37 yds, 1TD
Lundy: 5 for 33 yds

Jackson: 4 for 10 yds

Rec.
A. Johnson: 4 for 38 yds
Lundy: 2 for 26 yds

Holt: 4 for 48 yds
Walker: 2 for 32 yds

Defense

Peek: 2 sacks
Williams: 1 tackle (He's Improving!)

Tinoisamoa: 1 sack

Well i don't know much about the Tyler Rose's practice habits, but when you drafted Earl you knew what you got with him.

If you feel comfortable promoting a guy based on his performance vs. 2nd and 3rd string defenses, and throwing into the fire Day 1 vs. an agressive Philly defense, go right ahead. I'm not so sure. "Exhibition Heroes" can be misleading. Sage did the same thing when he was in Miami.

Ok but you might as well cut out the last two...

What nfl game channel? Is that Directv? I have Directv, what channel if so?

it cant be that big of a problem, he has completed over 60% of his passses in the last 2 seasons with AJ, Bradford, and Gaffney being his 3 top receivers last season and AJ, DD, and Gaffney the season before that. If Bradford and Gaff were good enough to be able to allow carr to complete 60% of his passes for 2 straight seasons they would both still be here.

Actually i think the game pass is a waste of money...watching on the game channel and then getting the heads up from you guys is better then paying for the nfl game pass....

Sometimes you have to win the ugly ones when things are going exactly the way you planned them or your having an off day. This game began on a very shaky note. Actually Carr has had 3 nice drives, 1 for a missed field goal, 1 for a TD, and 1 at the end for a field goal. The last one is the type that wins games because it was with less than 2 minutes and left no time on the clock.

Be happy we are winning and beginning to get it together. If PBUC is healthy we have a punt returner. The kicker I don't know. Yes, we have a QB in Carr and you will just have to watch. He got off on a shaky start, but he got better as the game wore on. Just sit back and relax because you do have somewhat of a defense that is going to get exciting with more time on the field.

No streaming, no TV. The NFL is working very, very hard to make me stop caring about football.

My observations of the 1st half.

Carr needs to improve his awareness and decision making.

Lundy needs to learn to cut block

The 2ndary is suffering still from the QB having too much time.

Chris Brown needs to settle down. AND the long snapper needs to be more accurate. (Brown had to studder step a bit before the kick.)

First half recapp...... David looked great tonight.

ONe bad throw, I won't make excuses...... overall, he looks poised, he looks confident, he looks like a veteran. To me, though the stats may not back it up now, but to me it looks like things have slowed a little bit, even though StLouis is playing better, and bringing more pressure than KC did.

I still don't see Spencer starting..... Unless McKinney doesn't make it back, and we put him in at RG.

Travis still has work to do, but he is still our best player on the inside. I can't fathom us not starting Babin for the regular season, and we'd be stupid to get rid of Peek.... right now... IMHO, Weaver appears to be odd man out. I can't think of one person..... maybe Robaire..... maybe.. that I'd start Weaver over.

Buchanon....... as a corner... he's doing better..... as a return man..... I really hoped the physicallity he's playing with would translate there as well. He's giving up 5 yards going out of bounds, or dancing in the backfield.... there's space, he just needs to hit it(I like the moves... but I don't think they were necessary)

Demeco's pretty Quite. Morency is tough.... Joppru won't make it as a fullback(I know it's his first game)..

Mario......... I'm sure he'll still be criticized, for his low stats..... but there is absolutlely no doubt in my mind, that he will be everything we think he should be.....

I get it on Directtv because I buy NFL ticket every year but we have the Cardinals and Patriots on.
