Patriots under investigation

They'll probably have to forfeit all preseason victories from last season and Tom will lose his preseason salary. (ps That would be a per diem at most)

This is how you fine the NFL fair haired favorites.

Why the preseason when the infraction happened in the post season or end of season?

FAIR HAIRED FAVORITES OF THE NFL

It has to look serious without being serious.

If this were the Texans, we'd probably be forced to move to LA.

All betting on Patriots game is currently on hold as well.

1 game suspension, $250k fine for Brady. No fines to the organization.

once a cheater always a cheater

Put a asterisk by bradys 4th SB win and and suspend him for the entire 2015 Season

or option b force brady to play the entire season with the old 1930's Giant football HAHAHAHA

I don't care what anyone says, it's hard to respect the Patriots SB wins. This is the second time they've been caught cheating, but not just the second allegation. If I didn't lean toward believing they were cheaters before, I sure do now.

Philly Voice headline: 243-page Deflategate report confirms what we all knew: Patriots are cheaters

You expect that from Philly, of course, but the USA Today headline is no less harsh: Tom Brady and the New England Patriots cheated their way to a Super Bowl

Compare that to Kraft’s quote from before the Super Bowl. “It bothers me greatly that [Brady and Belichick’s] reputations and integrity and, by association, that of our team, has been called into question.”

But that’s where Kraft’s defense went off the rails. The Patriots have no integrity to question, Robert. Once a cheater, always a cheater.

#Patriots QB Tom Brady would forfeit $470,588 per league week suspended for the upcoming 2015 season.

Andrew Brandt ‏@adbrandt
Experts"could identify no set of credible environmental or physical factors that completely accounts for the Patriots halftime measurements"

"Frequency of communications between Brady/Jastremski after suspicions became public suggests Brady was closely monitoring Jastremski" Hmm.

I find myself yawning at this. I am no Pats fan, but all this does is blow more hot air. They won't do anything of substance, and that's the bottom line.

Fine the team, take away a draft pick, or suspend a player. Until you actually do something punitive, like take away a tarnished trophy, this is all for show to shut up any detractors.

I have that little confidence in Goodell or his staff.

All true. And the difference is I hate both the NFL and the Pats, instead of just the Pats. Used to be the only time I ever thought about the NFL office is when there was a labor stoppage. Now I am forced to consider them all the damn time since Goodell took over.

I just want my team to be as good at cheating, drafting, and coaching as the Pats.

I guess I'm the only person who really doesn't care. It's a non-story to me. They went outside the rules, every team marches up to that line somewhere within their program. Maybe it's too many "contact" practices, talking to free agents too early, etc.

How does a mildly under-inflated ball cause a 40 point ass whooping? I'm sure a lot of qb's flirt right there with the limit, some probably intentionally under-inflate them. I don't think it's anything the league has ever weighed before every game. It's probably a quick eye test and you're on to playing football. They can say what protocol is but I don't believe they ever truly followed it, maybe just the custody of said footballs, but not the actual inspection.

I also shrugged at this. People would kill for their rings, and think about it, there was not rapist or child beater on that team. (To my knowledge) People are up in arms over spygate and deflategate. As William Shatner told trekkies, get a life, will you people?

I'm sure it makes no difference. They probably just cheat because they like the lols. But, just in case you want some actual data that deals with the non-impact of potentially deflating balls, here's a chart tracking the fumblitis of the Patriots before and after the NFL started letting teams provide their own footballs...

CEWDWNDWgAA61xC.png:large

Basically, once they were able to control their balls (snicker away) they went from being a normal fumbling team to greatest of all time, way better than statistical fluke at fumbling.

Corelation doesn't prove causation, but it definitely makes you wonder.

To the incessant whining about whether the Patriots still whip the Colts: Sure they do. It doen't mean that you don't prosecute them for finding new & exciting ways to dick with the rules.

Either you attempt to enforce the rules & regs or you don't. I don't care if it was Tampa Bay deflating footballs, you don't let them skate on it. You certainly don't let one of your league's highest profile clubs (and previously convicted offenders) get away with it...unless the message is that the Patriots are too 'vital' to bust.

I'm a math driven guy, and I don't understand that chart 1 bit. It doesn't go by year, all I see is frequency per touch. How are those on the x and y scale? I feel like they are the same thing.

This is why an under inflated ball is a big deal. The fact they did it is not really a big deal to me. I just think they were smarter than everyone else, or thought of it first.

But the fact that they lied about it and tried to cover it up, making the league spend probably millions on an idiotic investigation is what makes me say the hammer should come down. Why not just come out (after the SB of course) and say yeah we did it, our gauges must have been mis-calibrated. Sorry about that, we'll get them fixed or replaced

Let's look at team fumbles for the regular season.

2014 = 13 good for 2nd in the league
2013 = 24 good for 24th in the league
2012 = 14 good for 5th in the league
2011 = 13 tied for 3rd in the league
2010 = 9 good for 1st in the league
2009 = 17 good for 4th in the league
2008 = 17 tied for 4th in the league
2007 = 14 tied for 2nd in the league

I don't know if that is historically low, but it does trend towards typically top 5. Do well coached teams fumble less? I would imagine so. Probably also why they have continued success. Deflated balls could very well affect the outcome of ball security. If it were as night and day as the graph makes it out to be, they would be 1st every year, correct?

I think it's a stupid rule. That said, I understand why a lot of folks are upset about teams breaking the rules, especially a team who has been caught breaking other rules in the past.

Plus, it's the Patriots, the NFL's current evil empire. They are the team that lot of people love to hate. If this was Andy Dalton and the Bengals, for instance, it would barely have made headlines for a day.

All that said, though, there are quite a few teams that broke the rules on their way to winning championships. Maybe there is a lesson there... :thinking:

Why? An advantage doesn't mean automatic win.

You looked at only the post period.

2006 they were 27th so from there to 2nd (same OC).
2005 9th
2004 24th
2003 14th
2002 11th
2001 22nd

Typical up and down never exceptionally good.

im just glad they wipped the colts ass LOL in the AFCC game

but I wonder if they cheated when we played them in 2012 in the div round

"There's two types of racers, cheaters and losers."

-Smokey Yunick.

The only thing that still pisses me off is the tuck rule game. That to me helped create this hideous monster. The rest?

Spygate? Who doesn't try to steals signs Or plays in baseball? Why is that more honorable or less attacked? Deflates a ball? Really? That beat the **** out of the Colts that day. They were winning that game no matter what. The Colts walked into Gillette that day defeated from the opening snap.

I'm glad I didn't have to work today and therefore wasn't on social media much today. The holier than thou tweets are awesome. Its right up there with watching Ray Lewis give his opinion on Ray Rice.

What a bunch of hypocritical babies as usual.

ONce again everyone ignores what the entire NFL does and has always does and cries about the Patriots.

I guess they must have cheated when they ran a few scores in the 2nd half against Seattle as well. You know that defense that dominated one of the best offenses of all time in Manning the year before.

Lets not talk about the Steelers and all of their riders from the 70's Lets not talk about the 49ers and how they would routinely give false information about their players on IR, and other information they withheld in their dynasty years. Let's not mention the Cowboys and how they cheated by stealing signals as well with their HC bragging and laughing about it.

Let's just bag on the Patriots all because they beat the snot out of every team in the NFL for the last 15 years because we all have sour grapes.

I got news for you guys. The Patriots aren't losing squat in their accomplishments. And the fact that you guys have to devolve into whining about deflating footballs is the funniest thing so far.

I'm still waiting to hear from you guys about ATL using fake crowd noise or the Browns texting when they weren't supposed to, or the entire NFL "tampering" with free agents. I guess it's only cheating if the Patriots do it.

If the Texans were caught using fake crowd noise like they have in the past, I'd love to hear all of the excuses in here by the same folks crying about Brady and the Pats.

Won't mean anything. They still have the super bowl rings.

^^^^
This

All that matters.

BTW, the Pats would have beaten the Colts that day if they had been playing with a beach ball and the Colts were playing with a real football. Think the Colts, Irsay/Grigson may have been a little jealous?

Whole of statements like "might probably could have" and no real smoking gun. If the Pats didn't have Spygate in their past, this amount of circumstantial evidence would be a non-story.

I am still in the camp that feels the Patriots as an organization lead to this type of behavior from their players. They cheated. We know they cheated. They know they cheated. And frankly they don't care that we know.

Note A: The NFL wont do anything (serious enough) to discourage what happened as anyone will see that the Patriots have another Super Bowl trophy and its probably worth all the BS they have to deal with now.

Note B: I think the TEs and WRs should be a little pissed too. Their stats will possibly get questioned based on catching passes of an easier to grab slightly deflated ball. Maybe thats just me.

Suspending Brady for one or more games of the 2015 regular season ? Oh yea, that would get their attention. Would Goodell/the league do that ?

It will be interesting to see considering the Pats play the NFL opener on Thursday night v Steelers. That is the game that opens the NFL season, with bands and lots of bells and whistles. You know Goodell/Vincent have that in the back of their minds when contemplating (if they are) suspension for Brady. Big black eye for the Pats and the NFL if Brady isn't playing that game.

They will probably figure out a way to let him appeal the suspension so he can play the opener.

Yep, and Belichick was just as involved with this as the others.

No way his right hand man, secret stats guy wasn't aware of the fumbles disparity.

Worst for Brady: saying he didn't know McNally's name; called/texted Jastremki 3 days straight after title game with no such contact the previous 6 months
Andrew Brandt @@adbrandt
"After not communicating for more than 6 months Brady and Jastremski spoke twice on Jan. 19, twice on Jan. 20 and twice on Jan. 21."

People, circumstantial evidence (and an employee named "Deflator") IS evidence. And there is a trove of it. #WellsReport

Thamks for the fumble stats. I was wondering how that affected them. Part of was thinking what if a baseball pitcher used a baseball that had a different core in that would affect how it comes off the bat..or liken to a team using an illegal bat

Btw i heard gronk had an interesting "answer" . I havent seen the video but coworker told me

Former Patriots center Damien Woody, who snapped the ball to Tom Brady thousands of times and won two Super Bowl rings with him, believes that Brady was behind Deflategate.

Woody engaged in a debate on ESPN today with fellow former Patriot Tedy Bruschi, and although Bruschi defended Brady and said he doesn’t think the Patriots are cheaters, Woody said he agrees with the Ted Wells report, which found that the preponderance of the evidence shows that Brady cheated.

Bruschi asked Woody if he believes Brady told Patriots employees to deflate the footballs the Patriots would use in the AFC Championship Game, and Woody answered, “I do believe that.”

Woody said he read the Deflategate report and found it convincing. Woody added that he doesn’t believe the AFC Championship Game is the first time Brady cheated.

“From the texts of Jim McNally, him labeling himself ‘the Deflator’ tells me that this wasn’t the only time. When you’ve given yourself a label, to me that insinuates that this action has happened multiple times. I’m looking at it as this has happened multiple times, not only this particular situation, but it’s happened in the past before,” Woody said.

Bruschi asked Woody, “You believe Tom Brady would tell someone to do something illegal?” Woody answered, “Yes.”

It's just his opinion, but a very indicting one IMO.
