Our Lads Mock Draft 3/18

That would be a little surprising to say the least. It has us passing on Marcus Spears, PacMan Jones, and Thomas Davis. It also has Luis Castillo going in the first. That would be a surprise too.

Interesting they have Smith falling to the Cards. :hmmm:

I doubt
A: The titans take a receiver over a cb
B: Cleveland takes CB with a 3rd pick (seems way too high)
C: The Bears take another receiver

oh and of course the Texans going after Ware:

If the list looked like this I would be very suprised if the Texans didn't trade down.

wow i cant imagine the texans drafting a DE/OLB... We dont need one unless Peek is gonna sit. Williamson is not even in the 1st round. This is the weirdest mock i have seen yet... Maybe if its just going on off of Talent but i seriously doubt thats the way it will go

that mock is a bunch of bull, us taking ware at 13?! bears another wr after yet signing muhammed. Cleveland taking a cb when they need a Lb and Qb. Marlin Jackson at 15? and taken over thomas davis? Pac-Man Jones at 26?!?!?!?! Luis Castillo in the first round? Reggie Brown and Roddy White in the first but not Troy Williamson? They probably have Maurice Clarrett goin in the second

i wonder what these guys were on, when they made this.

The Bears taking another receiver is a very good possibility. Just cause they got 30 year old Muhhammed.. doesnt mean they feel set at the position.

but yah.. im scratching my head on Ware too.

if you look at our MOCK DRAFT II going on right now from members of this board the players, not the teams, but the players taken are very close. and I really think that Alex Smith will be selected somewhere in the top 10, but remember our Mock had trades. also I would take Carlos Rogers over Adam Jones in my top 10 too. in defense of demarcus ware he has been shooting up draft boards due to his awesome natural talent and ability, some people are comparing him to Jevon Kearse who is 6-4 262. Ware is also 6-4 and @ 251lbs is a good comp. what really has heads turning is his combine 4.5 forty.

just for fun here is a blast from the past- http://bengals.enquirer.com/1999/04/13/ben_draft_preview.html

also documented in the notes is this little tidbit-

Houston was disappointed to lose out on trading for Orlando Pace. The left tackle position was a problem last season, but that doesn’t automatically mean they’ll select Alex Barron with the 13th pick. There are a lot of mixed opinions regarding Barron and the Texans are reluctant to start over with a rookie at left tackle. There is a good chance that Houston will add more speed on defense.

sounds resonable to me how about you?

This mock is rather, ummmm, unique, to say the least...

It's like they have the right string but the wrong yoyo on a lot of these picks in that they have a very likely position being taken, but the wrong player...

Add Barron to that list, and 19 picks come and go before anyone selects Spears, Pac-Man, or Barron. That would seem to be an unlikely scenario, but
I happen to catch the author of the "Our Lads" website on national radio last
weekend and the guy seemed like he was well grounded and claimed he was going on a lot of insider info from real NFL draft authorities. Of course maybe he's just a convincing BSer.
I dunno though, this is starting to feel like a Draft that will have some real shockers - both in terms of totally overrated & totally underrated players.

Sounds reasonable and Ware has been shooting up on internet boards based on his workout and good season. I expect he's been high on many team's boards before his workout. Justin Tuck is another guy, that I think internet GMs are not considering as highly as some teams.

I'm not sure about their scouting, but since Shonka took over, the quality of the Ourlads publications has taken a nosedive. The newsletters are very poorly written and not timely. Their online depth charts are still the best going.

Lance and John had Shonka on their show last week and he was constantly looking for his notes while trying to answer questions. It was so bad that the hosts had to go to break while he stumbled through a question on possible Texans draft picks. Now if you were going on radio in Houston to talk about the draft wouldn't you think it would be a good idea to have your cheat sheet nearby?

That's what I liked about Sabo. He could pull something out of his arse even though you could tell at times he was not totally in touch with team news.

Our Lads does a terrible job on mock drafts. When we took AJ and when everyone knew we were taking AJ, they kept saying we'd take Jimmy Kennedy. They had it in their minds that Kennedy was the third best player in the draft and we were drafting third and therefore we had to take Kennedy...

How wrong were they? Well they were pretty wrong. To start with we didn't take Kennedy and.....

So far in two years Kennedy has 18 tackles and no sacks...

and AJ... well he's done a little better than that.

AJ has more than 18 tackles. And he never plays defense. Wow - that guy
is an even more amazing talent than I realized !
Seriously, from what ya'll are saying about the Our Lads website people, sounds like they are BSers first and most of all who definitely don't do their homework very well at all.

This mock is definitely in the minority, because the choice of Alex Barron
in the mocks is so overwhelming - something like 80% - 90% are picking
Barron. We shall soon see if they have a clue. Anybody know if Kiper has
come out lately with an updated mock, lot of people think he's privy
to the insider info.

Nice call looks like they agree with you on pacman.
Merriman train arollin'.
A. Smith #1 or bust?
Mark Clayton=Marvin Harrison minus a little height so I saw comparison of other day. Personally think he's way undervalued because of projected top two and Williamson hype.

Something highly conspicuous about this mock jumped out at me. I find it highly unlikely that only 1 QB will be taken in the first round even if it's a weak draft for QB's.

actually there are two- Rodgers #1 to the 49ers & Frye #24 to GB

I just talked to scott wright, and he says if Barron is there, we take him. If he is gone, we go linebacker.

In his latest mock he has us picking Thomas Davis. So that probably means there is no chance we take him.

I have actually started to like the idea of taking Davis in the first and converting him to ILB, but if Kiper has us doing it then it won't happen...

:woot Does Charlie Casserly have a mock draft out ? Some of these guys will put a player with a team because thats what # they should be picked and not for team need .

I really done like Mel Kiper. If we go
Davis he would have to bulk up to play OLB
Crowder has to bad of injuries.
Barron was my top choice til i heard it was Wands position
Williamson can step in right away and be the #2 WR.

Davis would play ILB here, and his size/bulk is just fine...He's the same size as Greenwood if I remember correctly...

You think he will be a Brian Urlacher huh?
Yup, there was a guy that made a pretty successful conversion from
Safety to LB. They ought to do the same thing with several other safeties currently in the NFL, like the Arlington Cowboys R. Williams. He can sure tackle and has LB size, but is poor in pass coverage with mediorce speed. Duh ! But that's another story.
Caught the tail end of the OurLads comments on 610, and he did not have
any nice things to say about Erasmus James - basically said the guy was a descent DE as long as nobody was trying to block him. Left him totally out of the first round.

The big difference between Urlacher and Davis is size...Urlacher is 6'4" 250, Davis is 6'1" 230...Davis' speed is nowhere near the issue many people thought it was and if you translate his decent coverage skills from safety to ILB, you have yourself a pretty good ILB...

Why would we take a WR with the #13 pick overall to be a #2 receiver? He many balls do you think he might catch next year, 20? How many TD's, 4? An impact defensive player could stop more TDs than Williamson could score, if he lives up to all his hype, based on his track ability (not his football ability). I'm sorry I just don't see his upside like some of you do. He played in a conference that was so-so last year and never dominated anything. All the other guys we talk about taking at #13 at least showed flashes of impact plays that can change the momentum in a game- a big sack, forced fumble, interception, critical stop on 3rd down etc. Speaking of which, do you think the Texans need to get better at converting 3rd downs on offense or stopping 3rd down conversions for the other team on defense. IMO I think we need alot more help with the latter.

It makes perfect since to fill the hole at WR at 13. I also think it makes perfect since to trade up and get the OLB. Then our top needs are gone. We can fill depth from their on. With CB, OL, DE, and maybe a TE

Im sorry but every NFL report says the 49ers are really High on both Rodgers and Braylon, Rodgers will probably be the #1 pickbecause he is a local boy and seems alil more ready for the pro game.

Also Braylon will be picked before Mike Williams? Not Happening Cleveland may also draft Braylon is what I heard as of today. But they all made it clear Braylon will go top 5 and i think someone trades with Miami and gets him. Say maybe Carolina who have 3 starting quality RB that maybe can fill the void for Miami.

Miami if second will probably Pick Ronnie Brown but with the Ricky talks and things my thought is that they are looking for a trade out of the #2 pick.

Maybe they should change thier slogan."helping you think and talk like experts" is not exactly the words that come to mind when i look at this mock.

Kiper is an aquired taste, take what he says with a grain of salt & open mind. he will grow on you as you become a more astute draftnick & someone you could listen to for hours he has so much information stored in those hair cells its simply astounding, here is a copy of past Mock Draft 2003-

Mel Kiper Jr.'s projected top 4
Now that Miami's Andre Johnson has officially declared for the draft, ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. submits his top four picks:
1. Bengals Carson Palmer QB, Sr.
2. Lions Charles Rogers WR, Jr.
3. Texans Andre Johnson WR, Jr.
4. Bears Byron Leftwich QB, Jr.

Many people have Edwards rated as the top WR prospect in this draft. He is not alone. Rick Gosselin is always right on top of the draft and he stated that the WR's were ranked Edwards, Clayton, Williamson and THEN Mike Williams on many teams draft boards. He said that Derrick Johnson and Mike Williams are fan favorites more than scout favorites.
