I spent some time last night watching YouTube game tapes and evaluating 4 different OT's. The following are my opinions on these guys. Let me know if you agree or see something different than I do.
Brandon Scherff, how is this guy the #1 ranked OT by CBS? He might make it as a RT with some work, but definitely not as a LT. The CBS ranking makes me wonder if they've even watched his game film. He's got slow feet and reactions, needs to bend his knees more, plays stiff, speed rushers or guys with a good spin more will eat him up. Might be a future pro bowl LG but not an NFL level OT.
Andrus Peat, quick feet and reflexes, good kick step, quick to the 2nd level, good build-long arms, wide stance, athletic, good pass protection but needs to work on his run blocking. He might make it as an NFL LT but he'll need some work which is to be expected coming out of college.
Ereck Flowers, athletic, quick feet and good reflexes, good build-long arms, anchors well, good kick step, gets lost playing in space sometimes. Like Peat I think he might make it as a future NFL LT but he needs some work, again to be expected coming out of college. Looks like a great RT though.
La'el Collins, quick reactions and quick feet, wide stance, anchors well, moves to the 2nd level well, athletic, good kick step, good at pass protection and run blocking. This guy was impressive, moves very well for a big man and should do fine at LT in the NFL. CBS has him ranked 3rd amoungst OT's but he was the best of the guys I evaluated. If he fell to #16 I wouldn't hesitate to take him. He could anchor the RT spot until he needs to move to LT in a few years.
