I'm afraid that Smith doesn't understand the type of players BOB needs for his system and unfortunately has the say on picks.............and McNair meddles in choices that also run contra to what BOB wants/needs. Last year, it came out how much Smith and BOB were at ends..........until it was finally decided that Smith would have full say in player picks and BOB only had say on which of those players actually played...........this was never going to be a formula for success.........it's like having a relatively uninformed figure at the top with a relative dummy intermediate setting the table with only unmatched cups and spoons.........and expecting the host to pull off a successful dinner party. This conflict has continued behind the scenes through this season. Something is going to give. If Smith is not given double his salary and kicked upstairs, preferably in a locked closet, and McNair does not have his nose cut off so he can't stick it where it doesn't belong, be assured it will be BOB's decision to put an end to his participation in the gross dysfunction of this organization.
Sorry doc, I totally disagree.
& it wasn't too long ago I remember most on this board agreeing the coaches had too much influence on draft picks. I believe it was said that was a model for failure, all year long you have scouts diligently doing their jobs then the coaches come in April & throws it all in the trash.
I like what McNair is doing & I like what Smith is doing. Smith does his job, scouted, rank players, gather all the info, get coaches input & even catering to the coaches at times... Will Fuller is here because of his history with O'b, Nix was Crennel's hand picked player, John Simon was coached by Vrabel at Ohio State, all the way back to Gibbs picking Duane Brown.
I think Kubiak didn't like playing Rick's guys like Ben Jones, Brandon Haris, Keenum... I think O'b had been doing the same thing, Sua-filo, Mallett, now Brock. Aboushi has got to be a Rick Smith guy (recommended by Coach Devlin)
All speculation by me, but when we see these guys can play better than the guys our coaches keep trotting out there, I don't know what else to think. At the very least, guys like Akeem Hunt should have a set number of snaps every game, not our 4th string RB. Tyler Ervin should have a defined role on this offense.
I think we have no idea how good our players could/could've been because our coaches have been petty, trying to prove points instead of playing the best guys they have.
I'm sure I'm alone in this, but that's ok.
