**Official Game-Day Thread** Texans at Patriots, Sunday Sept 24, 2017!!

Well, I will miss your humor in the game day threads. I want to point out that all the Texans players were standing for the anthem if that makes any difference. Hate to see you not hanging out with us.

I really appreciate that bud, thanks a lot man! :handshake:

I'm the type of person that it takes a lot for me to get, I wouldn't say mad but just fed up with all the bullshit. The whole situation today just kind of wore me thin. I will still be checking out the message board and seeing what you guys have to say, but I will not be watching the games. Once again, I appreciate it brother. :jam:

BTW, I'm not trying to start a huge political debate/argument, I'm just giving my opinion on the situation. :tiphat:

Agreed.

IF you convert the 1st down it increases the chances to score a TD. Scoring a TD gives you a 2 score lead in a position where it's unlikely the Pats have the time to score twice.

It's playing to win vs playing not to lose.

It's putting the onus on the offense to win the game vs the defense.

Agreed, still a tough call though. Had we not converted, all they need to do is March down half the field & kick a field goal. Six in one hand... with the time left & the reputation of our defense, I'd have kicked the field goal.

I wouldn't have gone into prevent mode.

Minus the hail mary his numbers read ...

22/32 for 301 yds, with 2 td and 1 int, for a 106.38 passer rating.

Fine way to look against the defending champs and one of the very few best to ever coach the game. Keep growin' young man.

Yes, fine way to look and I do like what I'm seeing out of Watson so far, but the Pats are one of the worst defenses in football through 3 weeks.

You do realize it's not about disrespect to military anymore? NBA and MLB involved as well now

Well, maybe I was wrong to include the military as part of my reasoning. However, the whole situation has just gotten to be too damn much. I want to watch my sports to get away from all the BS crap that is going on in the world today politically, and socially. Then I turn on the TV, and saw the situation, I just said to hell with all this bullshit, and changed the channel. Trump should have kept his mouth shut to begin with, even if what he said had some validity to it. Anyways, that's pretty much all I got to say about it and I'm done with it. :forrest:

Yeah from what I hear he's been pretty awesome so far. It sucks that the Texans finally get a quarterback and then **** like today happens. (Just my luck lol) After today, I will not watch another NFL game for a long time.
Players are not taking a stand against our military or the country as a whole. There is injustice in this country and they are taking a stand against the cops who are unfairly abusing the rights of African Americans while our leaders turn a blind eye. Bad police are never convicted or they get a slap on the wrist. You and Donald Trump and anyone else condemning the protest have not seen your rights abused by officers in this country. Not only is there injustice in singling out African Americans and minorities in general, there has been killings and beatings that never should have happened.

When police start fairly policing all Americans than there will be no need to stand against injustice. An injustice against one American is an injustice against all. The fact is that the protest started by Colin Kaepernick has grown and it has led to people discussing the matter. If it can change things for the better all around than it is a discussion I am glad we are having.

Many of these athletes protesting do a lot of good in their communities and they have the right to take stands against injustice just as all Americans do.

I hardly see the act of sitting during the Anthem as being that big of a distraction. It is a short period of time and the focus goes back to football and any other sport being played.

Texans played a great game today with a rookie QB giving up 5 TD's to the GOAT and people are still bitching about OB? We could win the SB and you guys would still be like "he's not my guy" and would complain. Great game from the Texans. Overall they outplayed the Pats.

I don't k ow about out playing them, but we definitely matched them.

Texans need an actual legit safety, not sure when the last time is we've had one of those, our best safety the past decade has been Glover Quinn... A decent safety probably picks that off, it was such a floater to the endzone man, at least get the PI...do something, the game is on the line.

I’d offer up Duane Brown for one.

just watched 2nd half dvr. that game was a big step going forward. the 3 defensive plays after all said and done were 3x brady to hogan and the one after the half. cooks? secondary massive breakdown on receivers easy no bodies around 18pts

I wish they would just keep politics out of football. If they want to express something like that, do it outside of the stadium and not in uniform.

This protest is going to impact all of the leagues in a negative way, one way or another. The number of people who watch is not going to increase over the long run because people are taking a knee but there is a huge chunk of the fan base that will stop watching over it.

Nice to see that the Texans may finally have a starting QB, and an exciting one at that...

But the TD at the end by the Pats wasn't a TD at all. Cooks didn't have control of the ball until he hit the ground.

Plays just like that today by Sterling Shepard (Giants) and Emmanuel Sanders (Broncos) were ruled incomplete.

Texans were badly jobbed.

We need more chicken sacrifices. Sack fumble, they get it. Interception dropped. OB goes stupid on 3rd and 1 and runs up the middle instead of boot or something. They get to push off and get away with it. Flags picked up, all reviews go their way. just tired of this. Great overall effort and love #4

I did not watch the game. Because I refuse to watch all of these players disrespect the country, the military, and the United States. From what I'm reading in the game day thread I'm glad I didn't. it sounds like the same old same old, BoB being a dumbass, and not knowing how to coach.
This is why I won't see a game in person or buy merchandise until the NFL stops allowing this disrespectful behavior. Freedom of speech? How about freedom to spend my dollars elsewhere. I watch sports for an escape not to see protests

Before we get too excited about today's offense, I think that it should be noted that the Patriots lost some important cogs in their Dline to injury in the preseason and the beginning of the season. Their pass rush was not up to par, certainly not compared to last year. The question that still needs to be answered is if this week's Texans OLine protection which seemed to be giving Watson a little more time than in the past, is a function of the Patriot's poor play or if it has truly improved.

Very true doc, but I'd argue that we've lost just as much from our O. Hopefully we at least get Fuller back and maybe DB when he shows up. Feido is probably not coming back from IR...that hit looked bad.

I was actually just speaking of the Oline protection vs the Pats Dline

I'm pretty sure we looked better than we were. Can't have improved much after just one week. My hope is that the Texans have settled in on who they're going to start, they do their jobs & teach them to work together as a unit, & we stay as healthy as possible for a few weeks at least. Then maybe we'll see some improvement around the bye week & make a push for the division.

The tough loss today is what will fuel us to a six-game winning streak. When we're sitting pretty with a 7-2 record and back in playoff contention, I'll be looking back to today's game as our starting point. You need those lows to reach the highs. I'm proud of the Houston Texans right now. Today was the most fun I had watching a game since 2011.

Titans looked strong today, so did the Cheifs, on both sides of the ball. I know Cleveland is Cleveland, but I bet Ricky still owes them a little something-something in the Brock trade.

Then it's Seattle, Indy, & the Rams. Right now, I honestly don't know where we rank among those teams.

I doubt we'll be favorites against the Titans & Chiefs at home. If we stink those games up & Cleveland beats the Bengals & Jets we may not be favorites there either. At Seattle, at LA (& they're playing good ball)...

I'm not trying to be all doom & gloom. It's just too early & there are too many questions to be looking too far ahead right now. Like where the heck is Jj, & Mercilus?

injury wise looks ok? after this game. and some injured I think are coming back next week
Hope you're right. Somehow some injuries are not always apparent during the game, and have a way of not showing for 24 hours after a game......and then the first real time you hear about it is when they crop up on the Wednesday Injury Reports. Hopefully, no surprises this week......except for returns.

Bulls on Parade is being ultra optimistic right now. We needed this win but unfortunately we are not ready. Thunderkyss Im talking about from the HC to the last man at the end of the bench. Im like wow poor game managements, no guts no glory play calling ( running Miller up the gut with the defense stack the box with 9), killing drives with penalties (or extending drives for the opposing team) and low IQ ( Moore not using his head on that winning TD, push the man out of bounds)

Thunderkyss we had so many things go wrong. But hey we had a chance though right.

Now look how tough our schedule has gotten.

First time in a long time I felt like we had a chance on offense which is a good feeling.

To play the Patriots so close at their place with injuries and in a high scoring game is a good effort.

Not happy we lost but happy we have a glimmer of QB hope for the first time in a long time.

JJ was a huge part of why the Pats had 56 rushing yds.

You didn't expect to see some big Jj moment on that last drive? Those were the moments I expect to see him change the game.

Not taking anything away from his total game, just that we expected Brady to come up big on that drive & he did... our pass rushers are expected to make a difference in those moments. They didn't, Clowney included.

Stop it please. On every last single 1 of those last 3 throws Brady was hit just a split second after he released the ball and the defense had 2 opportunities to end the game. The strip fumble play JJ, Clowney and mercy were all there and hit Brady, we just didn't recover the fumble. The bobbled int by Hal.....the plays were made we we just didn't capitalize.

So we're still the "almost" team. Ok, I just wanted to know.

Re: Watt, you have to remember he hasn’t played football in a long time. He also has the finger injury. And he’s still playing well by anyone one else’s standards. He’s just not at the superhuman level we’re used to seeing.

lol keep drinking that koolaid

If you don't kick they don't have to drive the field. They only need a FG. With that much time left, it's a guarantee Brady gets at least that. Take the points, force NE to go for six. They get it, they win. We had our chance but they got it.

Yeah but there's only one way to ice the game for sure, and that's by converting the 4th and 1.

I actually think kicking the FG at the end there is the right call. The third down call was extremely puzzling.
The forth down play was the single most critical call of the game. I wanted a roll out pass option, with Watson keeping the ball, but I understand the field goal. You are putting the game in the hands of our defense, which is our strength. Any QB but Brady and we probably win. But it's Brady, arguably the best QB of the modern era. This needs to be a lesson learned, going forward, don't be hesitant to put the game on Watson's shoulders.
