**Official Game-Day Thread** Texans at Patriots, Sunday Sept 24, 2017!!

I didn't study this game & I don't plan too. But the passing game looked better coordinated than before. I wasn't too thrilled with the run game. A couple of good runs but a lot of stonewalling too. No misdirection, not cut backs, no bouncing, no pitches. On the first end around, Hopkins whiffed on his block. His man came down & made the TFL. Lots of work to do in the run game.
To be honest, it felt like a setup game.

With Watson, I've said I think it would be a question between a top 10 or top 15 QB.

I'm giving him the key but I will still be holding my breath every time he gets hit or goes down awarkly. That's the trade off having an exciting guy to watch.

O'Brien said "it's on me" again. He's right. Also too late for that in Year 4.

Poor clock management by #Texans at end of first half. Far worse at end of second. O'Brien's struggled with clock management since '14.

I've always hated the "My Bad" fix-all statement when uttered out of the mouth of the guilty individual...especially when it has been over-used going on 4 seasons.

I actually think kicking the FG at the end there is the right call. The third down call was extremely puzzling.

Definitely wrong, when you have as many stars on the defense like we do nothing wrong with telling them to close it.

Moore should have ended it.

What would you rather have? For him to say it's never ever my fault?

You can't put the game in Brady's hands with two and a half minutes to go. Have to go for it on 4th, especially on the road.. Best case scenario you score and put the game out of reach, otherwise you eat some clock and then force them to drive the length of the field. But you can't give him the ball with that much time when your defense is gassed. Any other QB? Sure, settle for 3.

If you don't kick they don't have to drive the field. They only need a FG. With that much time left, it's a guarantee Brady gets at least that. Take the points, force NE to go for six. They get it, they win. We had our chance but they got it.

Hope you DVRd it, actually pretty good game

I didn't. Forgot to set the DVR and not really all that worried about it. It ended like it always does so I can browse the highlights at NFL.com and see Watson's progress and the big plays.

It wasn't the call, it was who got the call. Why not give it to foreman or playaction waggle?

Should've been run/pass option for Watson either giving to Foreman or dishing short to Griffin.

No idea why they called what they did. And NE apparently knew the call. They were all over it and we should have audibled.

He probably thought Miller's experience was more important than Foreman's greater ability making the play. At the time I thought he got scared that Foreman might fumble and a FG would be good enough. Either way, OBrien might not have the stomach for winning in the big time.

*sigh* After all of my pissing and moaning (which I rarely do), after today's performance, do you think it's safe to say that we can be in any game on our schedule?

Could that be the silver lining?

It's actually mindboggling that Watson appears to be growing up this fast. It looks like the sky's the limit for this kid.

I really can't believe I got this pissed about a football game. I apologize.

I honestly expect it to be up & down the rest of the year. We were in this game, I never would have guessed that... We actually had the lead going I to the fi al seconds of the game.

Next week should be a game, but Tennessee's front is a lot better than the Patriots front & we couldn't run on the Patriots. Expecting Watson to carry this team two weeks in a row... not very likely.

O'Brien breaking 13 points two weeks in a row... not likely.

Yeah, the worse call of the moment. That's my beef with O'Brien, no staple plays. That play he ran in the national championship game would've been perfect. Sprint rollout with run pass option. The old 49er play. Instead, Miller up the middle.

Good point. I also thought about that 4th and 1 deep in Patriots territory. We could have went for it and iced the game. Kicking a FG put us up 5 points but even then you know Brady will likely lead them to a game-winning TD drive.

Bottom line: The ball was in our hands needing one yard to win in a hostile road environment and a stadium we have never won before. And we didn't try to win it then and there.

Its basically a choice between trusting your offense to get a yard for a chance to seal the game(even if you don't get it, you still have the lead) vs giving the ball back to most clutch QB in nfl history at home against a gassed defense who he was picking apart the entire second half. It's a gamble, but I'm betting on our offense there.

No idea why they called what they did.

I know why. Because our head coach still has not figured out that Miller is not a power back. Because our head coach can't figure out that the OL can't overpower a packed box. Because our head coach doesn't have a clue how to call plays that suit the players on the field. Conversely, because our head coach can't figure out how to put players in that suit the play call. To sum it up, because our head coach is a fvcking dumbass.

This will be on NFL replay later this week on NFL Network. I'll try to post the time when it's announced.

I did not watch the game. Because I refuse to watch all of these players disrespect the country, the military, and the United States. From what I'm reading in the game day thread I'm glad I didn't. it sounds like the same old same old, BoB being a dumbass, and not knowing how to coach.

That hail mary throw was nice. pretty deep... he got an arm!
Another gripe I have. Our wideouts were falling down on the ground as the ball deflected off a leaping Gronk's hands. Hopkins was our only guy who tried to catch the ball in the air. Their DB picked it off to end the game.

Why were none of our other guys in position to catch the deflection for a game-winning Touchdown? They were all just falling down. In those hail mary plays somebody needs to stand around on their feet, on the side, and try to catch a batted ball. The Patriots did just that and ended up with an interception. We had two guys on the side just falling to the ground like idiots. Not be harsh. I can't think of any other word to use.

We need better depth wt WR (2, 3, 4 and 5).
DeAndre Hopkins is an All Pro talent. We have nothing else!

I also would cut Braxton Miller. The guy seems useless.
4 or 5 times I saw him running bad routes...
Deshaun Watson got incompletions he didn't deserve.

O'Brien needs to recognize the simple fact that he has a player at QB who is a pure winner. You put the ball in his hands in critical situations and let him do what he does. No doubt in my mind that Watson would have converted that 3rd down if O'Brien didn't take the ball and give it to freaking Lamar Miller

You are missing one hell of a rookie quarterback.
Deshaun Watson is special and we have a winner in him.

All we need now is to improve our wide receiver depth.
And of course, improve that offensive line a little more.

Maybe, and I say this loosely. we can win the final wild-card spot in the AFC this year. We'll probably have a four-game winning streak to get us back in the playoff hunt. At 1-2 we're okay for now. It's early.

Agreed.

IF you convert the 1st down it increases the chances to score a TD. Scoring a TD gives you a 2 score lead in a position where it's unlikely the Pats have the time to score twice.

It's playing to win vs playing not to lose.

It's putting the onus on the offense to win the game vs the defense.

Deshaun Watson was absolutely the real deal in second NFL start.
Finished 22 of 33 for 301 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 90.6 rating, 41 rushing yards

Minus the hail mary his numbers read ...

22/32 for 301 yds, with 2 td and 1 int, for a 106.38 passer rating.

Fine way to look against the defending champs and one of the very few best to ever coach the game. Keep growin' young man.

That's good of you. I won't be watching it but I'm sure there are people who are wanting to record it or who missed it and might want to see it.

Yeah from what I hear he's been pretty awesome so far. It sucks that the Texans finally get a quarterback and then **** like today happens. (Just my luck lol) After today, I will not watch another NFL game for a long time.

Agreed. And like I mentioned, 4 or 5 of those incompletions I saw Braxton Miller running horrible routes. The Patriots DB was closer to the intended pass than Miller was. One of them Watson had all day to throw and threw a beautiful pass. But Miller, in no man's land, doesn't finish the proper route.

Sucks that we may finally have a QB...and the AFCS actually looks decent suddenly...the worst team in the division right now the Colts because they are without their QB...

Personally, I am not even down on Lamar Miller. I think he can be a huge plus when he is used properly. That play call is all on O'brien.

It was the defending Super Bowl champions on the road. If we play like today the rest of the season we'll go from 1-2 to 11-5. We may still have a chance to win the AFC South. I still like our chances to win a wild-card spot if we keep making improvements.

If it had been a true zone read play, he would have. No way Watson puts the game in anyone else's hands but his own in that situation.

I hope Brady enjoys this one. It will be last one he gets from Deshaun.
I know- my problem was with the play call- put the ball in the hands of your playmaker at the end

Well, I will miss your humor in the game day threads. I want to point out that all the Texans players were standing for the anthem if that makes any difference. Hate to see you not hanging out with us.

We play the Titans and Chiefs at home the next two weeks (two solid teams), before a road game against the Browns. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but it wouldn't shock me if we win three straight games and enter our bye week with a 4-2 record.

If that happens we can make a legitimate playoff push in the second half of the season. Today's game was so encouraging to me that I actually have some hope that we can beat some good teams coming up at home.

You do realize it's not about disrespect to military anymore? NBA and MLB involved as well now

Our defense is ALOT better than our offense. If I had to rely on one side to win the game, I’m picking the defense all day!

If there's any consolation, I think O'Brien now realizes that letting Watson make plays is the best chance for this team to win. After years of crap QBs, O'Brien had to play not to lose. He doesn't have to do that anymore.

The last fg was meaningless. You knew Brady was going to do whatever he had to do. You have to give the ball to Watson and give him the chance to ice the game.

But we have a defense. Shouldn't be asking the rook to save the day. He should have a defense he can count on. I don't understand the four man rush on that last drive & still having receivers get WTF open.
