**Official Game-Day Thread** Preseason Texans at Rams, Saturday Aug 25, 2018!!

I’d think allowing the teams more practice time (particularly padded practice) in the offseason would even things out.

It's against the CBA.. so that'll never happen.. and even when it wasn't these players still got reps.

The fact that they've restricted practices as much as they have only make these type of games even more important. Basically these have become the padded practices in today's NFL.

Hate to see it happen, but it needs to happen... Hopefully our new ST coach can see it too. This guy is 42 and father time is undefeated. All time great, probably can still make a lot of rosters in this league, but it shouldn't be this one.. which we should be happy about. It means (assuming if our staff doesn't have their head up their nostalgic ass) our 23 yo went against one of the best of all time and wasn't given the job, but outright took the damn thing.

I still love Lechler though and what he's done for this team, would be awesome to cast a fishing pole with this guy, but the Texans need to go ahead and make the move.. Trever Daniel will be claimed off waivers if we try to stash him.
Agree. Give the young gun the job.
He looks this good already, you continue to groom him.

How did Braxton Miller make that sensational leaping TD catch in the corner of the end zone? I didn't know Miller had hops like that. Miller has impressed me today more than Ellington.

I keep waiting for 'an apple and a road map' for Rose but Tillman won't say it
LoL

Everyone.

But if all these starters are so fragile they can't play for a half, should they even practice? Should they play in the regular season? 12-4 will get you in the playoffs. Maybe we should hold Watson and Watt and Clowney out of the regular season until we have 4 losses.

It's not about being fragile it's about giving yourself a chance . Also they have scrimmages with other teams that are fast paced yet controlled .

How much with the guys he actually threw to in regular season again?
He has a booming leg, but his nerves can't handle pressure. He was the Longhorn kicker who killed their comeback against Goff's Cal team several years ago by shanking an extra point with seconds on the clock.

That was "several years ago" like you said..

Several years ago Lechler was 30 something, not 40 something. Just saying.

NFL.. Not For Long.. and a what have you done for me lately. Lechler has actually beaten all of this.. He's been a top punter for 20+ years! Again though, Father time is knocking and that leg is due to fall off.

You think handling carefully 3 of the best players on the team (all coming off surgeries) until the games count is a bad thing?

It’s a necessary evil..but god do I hate preseason for the exact reasons u guys are arguing about.
Why can't the NFL cut the preseason in half from four games to two games, and increase the regular-season from sixteen games to eighteen games? Wouldn't that work? The owners would still make their money.

The players would want to be compensated for playing an extra 2 full games rather than what they do in preseason. Doesn’t seem to matter much to the owners since it looks like they are packing in these stadiums charging regular season prices for preseason games. Most ridiculous thing ever btw...

If you lose 2 or 3 of the games that count because these players spend Sept getting into game shape, yes its a bad thing. If they are going to get injured in August, all you are doing is putting it off to Sept (or October if you agree with holding them out until you have 4 losses].

My point was that he blew an easy extra point because of the pressure. He's not doing much better in the pros.

There's video of him banging an 80 yard field goal in practice with yards to spare. But when the game's on the line, you can't count on him. It's a shame, because his leg is special.

Dee Virgin has been getting picked on all preseason by 3rd and 4th stringers and hasn’t been able to do anything about it..cut this dude already

I think we crossed streams. I was talking about the punter, not the kicker

80 yards ??

What's that smell coming from LA? That's the Texans reserve DBs in the 2nd half. Pew!

I don't even see anyone worth a spot on the practice squad. Hope Gaines takes some extra time looking at possible waiver wire DBs.

Corey Moore has had his moments this preseason... but he was also in the clown car of DB missed tackles Kelly just ran through.

Owners don't make the majority of their money off of ticket sales and concessions.. they make it off T.V. revenue. they care more about axing the preseason.

Coleman has looked good as a runner outside of that fumble last game. Excited to see if he can keep the ball off the ground today.

Right, and is there a TV market for two extra weeks of football? Not sure. You don't want over saturation of your product. That may already be occurring with the Thursday night package. Delicate balance.

The first Youtube commenter says it all: "Able To Hit from 80 Yards, But can't seem to get one from 19 Yards"

I am so glad you posted that video. I used to do that, and I'm familiar with it, I thought. I would have lost my home, car, wife and dog on that one !

Coleman looking good, pushing the pile and picking up tough yards. Pisses me off we sat him all pre-season until now.

Hope him and Swanson get most of the carries final preseason game. I was excited to see what they were made of this offseason but opportunities were few and far between first two preseason games.

Vets don't get real game checks until the season starts. So season salaries will be spread over 18 games or instead of 16. That means two more games for the same money from the vets' viewpoint. Would you do that?
