Official Brock Osweiler MVP Watch Thread!

Well, the last two weeks he has had a 61% completion rate, 3:1 TD:INT ratio and 85% rating. You can look at the 285 total passing yards as a negative all you want, but the Texans were 2-0 while racking up almost 300 rushing yards and 17 catches by the TE's.

Hey throwing for less yards per attempt than rushing attempt is pretty damn good wouldn't you say?

Thunder that's easy brother. If I had the time I would hook that **** up. But man its depressing to say the least.

2-0. Remind me again how the playoff seeding is affected by the QB YPA in a win?

Let me quote myself here before someone tries to imply that I am "OK" or "pleased" with Brock going for 99 yards against the Jags. I am not. But I am happy that the offense had 180 yards rushing and that the TE's again showed up well. In the absence of MVBrock, I'll take a solid run game and TE play any day of the week. When/If Brock actually shows up this season, it will make things even better.

And I want you to remind me on how those type of stats will help us advance in the playoffs as well Mr. Smart one.

Oh and we're not in the playoffs yet. So let's not count those chickens before they hatch home boy.

I can't believe fans would actually try to defend dumpster fire stats like that. Wow

Oh and my freaking bad. Let me jump back on the overally optimistic side in which Thunder and JB are on. When I was on that side them jokers were liking every freaking thing I posted. But since my views have changed due to his horrendous performance Hahaha I'm the bad guy.

I don't think anyone is trying to defend those stats as point out that they are not all that meaningful overall in a team game

Says who. Are you serious. You telling me those are not meaningful. Ok well let's see how that plays out in the playoffs game. I dare Brock to put up those type of numbers.

get over yourself

Would you rather have 400 yds 2 TD and a loss?

Somebody asked this crazy question on the radio last week. Dude that's not even my point. My point is we're not advancing deep into the playoffs with a quarterback that's at the bottom of the league statically.

Playoffs? You're talking playoffs?

I'm not gonna worry about the playoffs or the stats until we get there. We all know he needs to improve, but stats are the last thing to worry about.

If we win...

Why is everyone so worried about IF's and But's?

If we don't make the playoffs I'll be bitchin' right there with ya.

If we're one and done again I'll be bitchin' right there with ya.

I'm not gonna stress what may happen 2 months from now

I'll like a post that makes sense, even if it doesn't reflect my point of view.

To that end, I don't know that I'm overly(sp) optimistic. Patient maybe. I said at the beginning of the year, that we should wait until after Thanksgiving before being overly(sp) critical of our OL & Brock Osweiler. That's all I'm doing.

Brock's stats between game one & Thanksgiving won't be as relevant as his stats between Thanksgiving & Jan 1.

I'm with you in so far as I don't understand why everyone is so worried about stuff that hasn't happened yet. May not happen at all.

But if we're one & done... it's going to depend. If we're facing a team that backs into the playoffs & we lose...... I'm going to be upset.

If we play the team that lost their division on a tiebreaker & they're playing well... not so much.

IF it's clear that our QB should have been benched before the 2nd qtr & he stays in the entire game, I'll be a bit peeved.

Then why even have a message board? If nothing matters until January, then shut the damn thing down and let's never discuss anything until then.

The QB sucks, the team is 6-3. See ya in January.

I'm happy the Texans are 6-3. Honest to God I don't even know how that's possible with the way they've played, but I'll take it eight days a week. It doesn't mean, however, that I can't bitch about the most god-awful QB performance I've seen since the original #8. And it doesn't mean I can't speculate about what I perceive is going to happen if that kind of play continues the next 2 months.

Doesn't mean it can't click for him all of a sudden somehow, but through 9 games, I've seen no indication of it getting better, so that worries me. It worries me tonight against Oakland, it worries me next week against San Diego and it damn sure worries me come January (if they even make it) when there will be no Jacksonville's and Tennessee's on the schedule, which BTW, they barely beat those teams.

Brock played a damn good game tonight. Unfortunately the linebackers decided to poop the bed on this one. The refs also screwed us over big time.
It was very clear by all these Raiders commercials that they wanted them to win.

I really wanted to praise Brock for tonight's game. For much of it he looked solid. Then there were several throws that were very late and off target even though they were caught. He also nailed at least 3 defenders in the chest and lucked out with dropped INT's. Had we won I might have overlooked those in favor of the good plays ... but we didn't.

Yeah, I'm not putting this one on Brock. He actually looked like a halfway decent QB at times. AT TIMES.

The refs were in bed with the Raiders for sure, but it's obvious after tonight that Bill O'Brien is the real problem here. The guy doesn't seem to have a clue way too often. He's a horrible in game coach, never mind his horrible talent evaluation.

Agreed Coach O'Brien is clueless majority of the times. He was coaching a pretty solid game until it was money time. And good grief why didn't Crennel put his nickel package in when it was clear that our linebackers couldn't cover tonight

Saw a ridiculously stupid pass that shoulda been a pick 6, saw a couple of other inaccurate passes, miscommunication, and a delay of game i pin squarely on oz.

I also saw 3-4 drops and oz play his best game. Progress. This WAS his best game. Still no saviour but for just an instance i think i saw a flash of decent.

The delay of game looked to be on Brax. He walked off the field late and Mumph came in late.

I also think Brock's best game of the season was week 1.

If I'm McNair I'm calling Kyle Shanahan today to see if he's available in the offseason.

What qualities does Brock have that make you think he will ever be an average QB in the NFL???
1. Throw the ball accurately. No. Really don't need to go any further do you???

Talked to a couple people that followed him in college and they say he just checked out when there was a coaching change. Did not attend meetings or anything else. Have any of you heard the same?

Again this is Brock. It is not his fault he was paid MILLIONS to be on this team.

That is the biggest issue with his struggles all season long. Very bad accuracy and it's tough for a quarterback to succeed when that is at the heart of his struggles.

Both qbs had the same passing yards. The difference was Brock had 0 tds and 3 INTs and Rivers had 3 tds only 1 INT (that was a lucky tipped pick) all you need to know

I really don't think he has any qualities. He doesn't even know how to throw a Hail Mary. Not a student of the game or just not too smart.
On the last drive he threw short passes in middle of field. No poise in pocket. BAD judgement. You know how some players just find a way to win and others look good on paper but in real life just never get there....

It is up to coaches/GM to be able to see that. Texans staff just don't get it. We are screwed until they do. Actually we are probably out of luck because McNairs need to see it. I thank them for bringing football back to Houston but I wish they would bring back a real contender. Get a REAL GM and they get the hell out of the kitchen.

Trust me they see the very exact things that we see. Unfortunately they won't pull the plug on this Brock experiment because of the owner. Now if Mr. McNair says yank him, we will see what Savage could do. But you can best believe they see this nonsense up close and during film sessions.

More than likely it will be this time next year before they pull the plug on Osweiler.

The plug that needs to be pulled is Smith. Need a new GM to pick a real coach. I am thinking long term rebuilding.

I have said before season started that Weeden is best QB now. I know no future but that is the same for all QB's that have ever been on these team.

The media has caught up with the TexansTalk sentiment on benching Osweiler.

Bill O'Brien says he won't bench Brock Osweiler for Tom Savage

HOUSTON -- Houston Texans coach Bill O'Brien said he will not bench quarterback Brock Osweiler for backup Tom Savage.

"No," O'Brien said when asked about starting Savage. "We're going to come in here tomorrow, we're going to correct mistakes, and move on to Green Bay."

...

"I didn't play very good today," Osweiler said. "I feel like I left a lot out there on the field, that I could have done much better. I could have done a much better job in certain situations.

"I really felt like those guys went out there and truly battled and played great football, and bottom line I need to play better for us to win. I feel like our team gave us the opportunity to win today and I didn't play up to what I'm capable of doing, and that's on me and I'll get that cleaned up."

Osweiler has struggled this season, completing just 59.5 percent of his passes for an average of 5.8 yards per attempt. He has 12 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions, 10 of which have come at home.

"I know we've had some ups and we've had some downs, and you'd like to see steady improvement, but sometimes that doesn't take place," Osweiler said. "I'm very optimistic about what this team can accomplish because this is a damn good football team, and I let them down today. I need to play better.

This is a typical media tactic where the answer to the question is not important; it only matters that the question was asked. This is done to plant the premise of the question in people's minds. It's the classic "Do you still beat your wife?" ploy.

In this case, the premise happens to be one that I supported weeks ago. Expect this question to be asked after the next loss, which will then lead to national and local opinion pieces advocating for benching Osweiler.

And predicting this one step further: McNair won't let Osweiler be benched this season. It's too soon to write off a $36 million investment. Wins/losses don't affect that decision right now.
