Nobody wins when the family feuds

So the whole Cary lawsuit thing, I’m told, is an attempt to get some sort of limiting budget in place for how money is spent on the Texans organization.

Cal has always been open wallet for most anything Texans upgrade, football requests especially. Janice is like Cal, she’ll spend on the team and supports Cal doing so. (For instance, some players complained about the showerheads recently. Cal made the call and had them all upgraded ASAP.)

Cary and whoever else is with him see Cal as wrecklessly spending their future inheritance, and they want to limit that. Unfortunately you see this often with siblings and a big asset parent on the decline. Recently a family I’ve known for years forced widower Mom out of her 12,000 square foot house and grounds (that is very expensive to keep up properly) and into highrise assisted living. Mom wanted to die in her house.

All just very sad really

Tillman was one of the last handful in contention for the Washington franchise. I’m sure he could find the $$$ to buy the Texans.

Unfortunately, Tillman will never be approved to own an NFL franchise. He has way to many family Mafia connections. Note: I am not saying Tillman is a wise guy, but he has some close family members that are (take a look at his family's history with the Galveston illegal casino era, and current involvement with the Vegas casinos).

I was shocked that he was allowed to buy the Rockets, but the NFL is a lot stricter on this issue than the NBA is.

There is no way that any of us know what type of estate planning was done when Bob made his will. I know it makes for good message board chatter, but there are so many different ways to construct your estate, especially when you have the resources and assets of Bob McNair.
Yep. I’ve read nothing that states the children have equal shares in the Houston Texans. I didn’t have an equal share in the piano my younger brother was given by will. It would be impossible to believe Bob McNair didn’t leave provisions for ownership and management of an asset larger than that piano. He was fully a hands on owner. if I’m understanding some of these, cough, posts are we to believe Bob left the ownership of his beloved Texans to the will of any family member who wants an immediate piece of the pie?

The new NFL is in bed with Vegas.

Of course, just ask Jimmy Haslam..........

Never? Why was he allowed to make a $5.6 billion bid for the Commanders?

I like conspiracy theories. But they're just theories.

Money don't care, it just wants more

I can see your point but fact is most Taylor Swift fans aren't exactly NFL fans.
I think they are as Kelce’s jersey sales soared 400% in the US… and… in the UK, BOTH Kelce brothers are #1 and #2 respectively with jersey sales. To make these numbers even crazier… Mahomes is #3. Know who’s #4? Jalen Hurts. Goodell -and- the NFL is cashing in on Swift’s impact onto the Chiefs and the Kelces. Goodell wants in Europe, right? Yeah that.

The Chiefs are going to get all of the calls this weekend. Gotta keep the Swifty's happy. Still doesn't mean Bills cant win, but it's going to be an uphill battle.
Dallas were the refs darlings all season, but they still got smoked.

I don't love Kansas' overall chances for a Super Bowl this year. Too much inconsistency at receiver is going to bite you eventually - it has already this season multiple times and now we're in one L and you're done territory. I don't think they can pull it off as the competition gets stronger. Just my opinion though.

I agree KC hasn't seemed like the monster under the bed this year that they have before. They are still a good team because it would be hard for a team to be bad with Mahomas at QB but losing Hill has caused even Mahomas to not seem as scary. Its kind of like when Brady lost Gronk, he was still Tom Brady but something just seemed off.

All of the teams left, especially in the AFC, have very obvious weaknesses (other than Baltimore). It's there for the taking - hopeful we can be the team to step up.

my experience (pro and personal) just based solely on the pic and the things you pointed out that I immediately saw is on her having had a TIA or something very similar recently. The others now are worried about her workload with the Texans and wanna step in & try to lessen whatever workload she may have with the organization for fear of her getting stressed & her having a more serious & permanent stroke. hands & arms always tell the story for me.

You certainly are correct that whatever her condition is, stress is likely to make it worse.

For the observations seen in both Aug and Nov, I would have to say that, if she doesn't have a movement disorder caused by Parkinson's or dementia or the like, she would have to have had an overt stroke. TIAs (for those who are not familiar with the abreviation, stands for Transient Ischemic Attack which is a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain that can temporarily cause stroke-like symptoms/signs) usually last for less than an hour, but almost never greater than 24 hours. Any longer and you are dealing with a stroke. TIAs are considered an acute emergency since when they begin, you can't be sure if they aren't a stroke.........they do not lend themselves for photo or video ops.

Stroke confirmed.

Houston Texans owner Janice McNair's stroke at center of son's guardianship request
By John Wayne Ferguson, Jonathan M. Alexander,Staff writersJan 26, 2024

Medical exams have found that, despite her stroke, her mental facilities are fully intact. As I have posted previously..........

Texas makes a big difference between disability and incompacity. Disability is not the same as incapacity. A person can have a disability without being incapacitated. This seems the case with Janice McNair.

From the CHRONICLE article which some have no access to>>>>>>>>>>>>

A stroke suffered by Texans principal owner Janice McNair is at the center of one of her son’s legal efforts to become her legal guardian, lawyers said in a downtown courtroom Friday morning.

The legal showdown between members of one the region’s wealthiest families could change control of Houston’s NFL team, which just completed a winning season and a short playoff run.

Janice McNair, 87, is fighting the legal move by Robert Cary McNair, her oldest son. Her lawyers argued Friday that doctors had recently evaluated Janice McNair and found her in good health.

MCNAIR COURT DRAMA: McNair family feuds in court over Cary McNair’s attempt to take guardianship of Texans owner

“She’s not seeking relief,” Janice McNair’s attorney Don Jackson said. “She got (dragged) here by her son.”

Cary McNair in November asked a probate court for his mother to be declared incapacitated and to appoint her a guardian. Cary McNair, 64, is the CEO of McNair Interests and is involved in other businesses and organizations tied to the family. His brother, Cal McNair, 63, is the chairman and CEO of the Texans, and runs the daily operations for the football team.

Cal McNair is opposing his brother’s move for guardianship.

On Friday, Cal McNair’s lawyer, Paul Dobrowski, presented reports from two doctors who evaluated her over the last three weeks

Both doctors, including McNair’s physician of 18 years, determined that McNair didn’t have any significant mental health problems, Dobrowski said. One of the doctors wrote she was “fully aware and had full mental capacity,” he said.

EXPLAINER: What is guardianship and how is it different from conservatorship

“They’ve got nothing,” Dobrowski said.

I still wonder what went on behind the scenes that really prompted this. This is an all in move by Cary because if he does lose there is a good chance he will be cut out of a lot of things. I'm wondering if he has been told Cal is getting control of the Texans, Cal being only one year younger makes me believe this even more, or he needs money fast because of his latest venture or maybe both. This is all just spit balling here but if she really isn't showing any signs of mental issues then the timing was bad.

If your family is fortunate enough to have excess wealth, you can never tell who in your family is secretly plotting to try to get the money of your older relatives until that time comes. I've seen it (not in my family). If you are lucky, you don't have this problem and your peers would trade the money you would receive for that relative's good health. Unfortunately, greed rears its ugly head when those family members options run out. Remember, anyone who has been wealthy for some period of time, usually get addicted to their lifestyle. If they aren't talented enough or squander their opportunities, those people will do anything to maintain that standard of living.

Before I became a practicing attorney, the judge I clerked for used to warn me (and the other clerks) that if you are going to be an attorney for the money, it's just a matter of time before you get corrupted or fail to represent your clients properly because you truly don't like what you do. Yes, I know, no one cares, but I thought it was relevant.

Long live Janice McNair.

I read that this thing got started when Mama McNair gave Cal a sweetheart deal on the family ranch. The other siblings have to be wondering if that is a harbinger of a potential sale of the team to Cal and investors.

That's interesting and I have not heard that. Thanks for the input. If I were one of the fortunate offspring, I would sit tight and hope my percentage of what I was to get would remain the same. I would also probably buy a real nice pen set for Cal.

It probably is a sign of things to come.

I bet Cary wishes he would've gone in with his dad when the team was founded.

Eh, me thinks this was about something else..something petty not whatever the media is writing its about. Something frivilous. No way in hell Cary was worried about his inheritance being squandered away by Cal's spending on the Texans. I mean has he not paid attention to how much these professional franchises have been selling for over the last 5 years? Things are like real estate & they do nothing but increase in value over time & the NFL prints money. If anything, I'm encouraging Cal & mama Mcnair to do what needs to be done to keep that cash cow appreciating in value for the sake of my inheritance..whatever % that might be.

Seems like Cary is in his feelings that mama McNair don't trust him as much as baby boy Cal. Cary might be also trying to raise his profile...I didn't even know Cal had a bro until this story broke.

I think the theory was that Cary had gotten himself into a cash crunch and needed quite a bit of liquid immediately.
