Shannon Sharpe is sued for sexual assault and battery

Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe made headlines last week in connection with his pursuit of a nine-figure podcast deal. This week, he’s facing an eight-figure lawsuit.

Sharpe was sued on Sunday by a woman proceeding under the “Jane Doe” pseudonym. The 13-page civil complaint, filed in a Nevada state court, alleges that Sharpe committed assault, sexual assault, battery, and sexual battery, and that he engaged in the intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The plaintiff claims that they embarked on a “rocky consensual relationship” that lasted nearly two years.

The complaint alleges that Sharpe recorded their sexual activities, something without her knowledge, and that he was sharing the videos with others without her permission or knowledge. The complaint contends that it was another woman, not the plaintiff, with whom Sharpe was having sex when he “accidentally” livestreamed the encounter on Instagram.

That was, per the complaint, the moment at which the plaintiff “began to pull away from Sharpe.” The complaint claims that he relentlessly pursued her after she stopped answering her phone or sharing her whereabouts.

The complaint contends that Sharpe confronted the plaintiff in October 2024, after she had commenced efforts to separate from him. The complaint details the ensuing encounter, which culminated in allegedly forcible sex against her consent.

Another alleged incident happened in January 2025. The complaint alleges that Sharpe engaged in unprotected sex with the plaintiff, despite her efforts to get him either to stop or to wear a condom.

From the first page of the complaint: A woman can say “yes” to consensual sexual relations with a man ninety-nine times, but when she says ‘no’ even once, that ‘no’ means no. Defendant Shannon Sharpe, a man who is accustomed to getting what he wants, completely fails to understand this basic concept. After many months of manipulating and controlling Plaintiff—a woman more than thirty years younger than he—and repeatedly threatening to brutally choke and violently slap her, Sharpe refused to accept the answer no and raped Plaintiff, despite her sobbing and repeated screams of ‘no.’”

The complaint seeks a minimum of $50 million from Sharpe. If/when there’s a trial, the recovery, if any, will be determined by a jury, based on the evidence and the law. The number can, in theory, be anything.

The plaintiff is represented by Micah Nash and Tony Buzbee. Buzbee rose to prominence in NFL circles via the representation of more than 20 plaintiffs who sued quarterback Deshaun Watson, starting in early 2021.

It is a civil case, with no criminal consequences attached directly to it. Sharpe will have all available defenses available to him as the case proceeds.
 
The Browns report that there is no true detailed update [except that "he is progressing"] on LB Jeremiah Oswusu-Koramoah, who sustained a neck injury last Nov and has not played since. The Browns have never identified his exact injury, but I have ascertained that it was a cervical vertebral compression fracture, which occurred when he spear tackled Derrick Henry. The Browns are not giving any timeline for his return.

In the case of a stable cervical compression fracture that has completely healed according to radiological confirmation, players are allowed to return within approximately 6 months, providing they are asymptomatic, have regained full strength, range of motion and are psychologically prepared to return to play [criteria that Owusu-Koramoah has not met]. Currently, there is no experimental or clinical data to help physicians predict the stability of healed spinal fractures when they are placed under extreme degrees of mechanical stress like in football. There is increased mechanical stress above and below fused spinal segments, and repetitive microtrauma to a stiff spine exacerbates the stress. At present, there is no conclusive evidence that the injured cervical spine is made stronger than normal by fusion.

With the available information on his supposed "progress," I would not feel that a return to football would be a wise decision for this young man.

Rashee Rice is running in his rehab from a season-ending knee injury

The Chiefs reached the Super Bowl without wide receiver Rashee Rice and tight end Jared Wiley.

Rice tore his lateral collateral ligament in his right knee in Week 4, and Wiley tore an anterior cruciate ligament in a Week 9 practice. They combined for only 11 games.

Both continue to rehab from their injuries, and coach Andy Reid provided something of an update as the Chiefs kicked off their offseason program Monday.

“I can’t necessarily give you the [return date],” Reid said, via Pete Sweeney of arrowheadpride.com. “They’re doing well. That’s taking place right now, but I can’t tell you when they will be back exactly here. Both have been busting their tail. They’re running, which is good. We’ll just see how it goes going forward here. We don’t have them here on the field right now with us, so we’ve got to see the football part of it as we go.”
Rice had 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games after making 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie. Wiley made one catch for 7 yards, while seeing action on 94 offensive snaps.

What's the latest on Chiefs WR Rashee Rice's legal situation and a potential suspension in 2025?​

Rice is facing multiple civil suits and criminal charges after he was involved in an automobile accident that occurred during an alleged street racing incident in Dallas, Texas, on March 30, 2024.

Rice's attorney, Royce West, is also a state senator for Texas. This is important because he has responsibilities to the state legislature. A recent report from NBC Dallas-Fort Worth revealed that in January, West was granted a legislative continuance in one of the civil cases to fulfill his duties as a state senator before any trial began.

The current session of the Texas legislature runs from Jan. 14 through June 2. While the status of Rice's criminal trial is unknown, similar protections are in place for Texas attorneys who are members of the state legislature. Texas law forbids continuing civil and criminal cases until 30 days after a legislative session has adjourned. Thus, the earliest both civil and criminal cases could be resumed in July.

Rice, of course, is subject to the NFL's personal conduct policy, but the league typically waits for legal situations to be resolved in court before issuing a suspension. A potential early July timeline for Rice's trial further complicates the NFL's timeline for a potential suspension. All of that said, there seems to be at least some optimism within the Chiefs' building that any suspension from the NFL would be minimal with Rice being a first-time offender. A range of three to four games wouldn't be out of the question, but the timing of it all remains unclear and likely will remain unclear until we get closer to the start of the 2025 NFL season.

Colts G.M. Chris Ballard looking for “hard to find” three-down tight end

The Colts don’t know who will be starting at quarterback when they hit the field in September, but they know they’d like to have a dynamic tight end helping Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones succeed in the passing game.

Their obvious need at the position has led to many mock drafts that see them land Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland with the 14th overall pick on Thursday night. General Manager Chris Ballard didn’t discuss those players directly during a Monday press conference, but acknowledged that he’d like to make an addition at the position.

Ballard also acknowledged that it is “hard to find” the kind of player who does enough to make him worth an investment in the first round.

“To be able to play on all three downs, to be able to be functional in the run game to where you don’t necessarily know it’s always a pass when he’s in the game, and then to be able to finish and make plays at critical times and have him give the quarterback an option in the middle of the field,” Ballard said, via the team’s website.

Warren and Loveland are at the top of the class, but Ballard noted that players like Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Mark Andrews were selected later in the draft. Wherever Ballard decides to pull the trigger, the Colts could use a direct hit.
 
Jurgens had to be going through immense pain to finish up the 2024 season and play in the SB. He had a lumbar bulging disc that was pressing hard on his spinal nerve root..........something that would have caused severe shooting pains down his leg. Although not specifically mentioned in the media, he underwent an arthroscopic minimally invasive lumbar discectomy. This procedure will definitely give him relief to play in the upcoming season. However, since the disc acts as a shock absorber/cushion between 2 lumbar vertebra, the cushion thickness has been significantly decreased. This then puts a more long-term prognosis into question.

I've been asked by someone with a similar bulging disc about the procedure. Here is an excellent very basic visual explanation of the problem and the surgery.

Cam Jurgens feels like a “new man” after back surgery

Eagles center Cam Jurgens battled through a back injury to help the team win Super Bowl LIX in February and his efforts were rewarded on Monday.

Jurgens signed a four-year contract extension that ties him to the team through the 2029 season and gives him the second-highest average annual salary among NFL centers. While speaking to reporters after sealing his new deal, Jurgens discussed how his back is doing after his post-Super Bowl surgery.

“It’s still a process whenever you go through surgery to get through the rehab process and get back to it,” Jurgens said, via the team’s website. “Still going through that, but, man, I honestly feel like a new man. I feel so much better. Going through the playoffs and dealing with that pain, I’m sure a lot of people have dealt with that before and it’s not fun. But when you’re going through the playoffs and I’m not concerned about me, I’m concerned about what I can do to help the team and do everything I can to win. When you’re playing for a Super Bowl, that’s going to last forever. Back pain lasts however long it wants to last, but I’m going to be a Super Bowl Champ forever and I’ll get to be with the Eagles for a long time. I’m looking forward to making a full recovery.”

Jurgens is one of four starting offensive linemen that the Eagles have sewed up for the next few years and keeping that unit intact should give them a good chance of contending for more titles before it is time to think about their next set of contracts.
 
Buzbee is literally the most disgusting lawyer I've ever heard of. Makes me want to vomit. What a f'king slime ball.

And it's not a comment on any merits of his client's case.

He is a sleaze. He happens to be good at his job as well. Shannon’s post playing career should be finished and criminal charges filed.
 
Raider big DT Christian Wilkins sustained a Jones fracture last Oct which required surgery putting him on IR the rest of the year.. Wilkins signed a four-year, $110MM contract with the Raiders last March which made him the second-highest-paid DT in the NFL. Now there is concern that with an ongoing foot problem, his 2025 debut is in jeopardy. From what I understand there has been a healing problem. This far out, I don't see how he avoids a secondary repair with the necessity for the addition of bone grafting. This could definitely put his return on hold.
 
Broncos LB. Dre Greenlaw not having much luck recently. Evidently he tore his Quadriceps while working out.
It is unknown whether Greenlaw will require surgery to repair it. It is therefore a partial tear. When comparing outcomes for surgery vs conservative treatment, return to play was from 33% to 67% after surgery and were 89% for conservative management.

As I mention, luck has not followed him in that additionally Greenlaw tore his Achilles in Super Bowl LVIII to end the 2023 season and missed most of last season before a brief return in week 14 and 15 before knee and calf soreness related to his Achilles ended his season.

With his history of the 2 major lower limb injuries, expectations for his recovery, return to play and return performance level is much lower than for each injury singularly.
