NFL Random Thought of the Day

I hereby approve

The Detroit Lions have proposed a significant change to NFL playoff seeding that would largely use regular-season records as the guiding principle, rather than division championships, according to a list of potential rule changes the league released Wednesday.

Under the proposal, the division winner with the conference's best record would still receive the No. 1 overall seed. But after that, teams would be stacked by records, regardless of whether they won their divisions or received wild-card berths.

I'll pass. Winning your division should mean something. Don't care how crappy or tough your division is.
Not going to get all into tiebreakers but just as an example of something that could have taken place just last year. Had the Texans gone 9-8 and the Bengals went 10-7, the Texans would have won their division and missed the playoffs under this proposal.

If you want to just go by record then get rid of the divisions and balance the schedules a little more, meaning no one plays 3 teams twice. Otherwise, stop ******* with **** just to **** with it.

IMO, divisions are useless. I'm all for the new seeding scheme, but we need to take the next logical step and get rid of the divisions. They serve no competitive purpose.

No, I believe division winners still makes the playoffs. It's the seeding of the playoffs that will change. Last season for instance, the Texans would have been the 5th seed and played the Chargers (4th seed) at SoFi.

I don't like it. Your schedule is largely based on your division & the playoffs should reflect that.

The reason I approve of this change is to prevent teams with losing records making it into the playoffs. It has not happened yet but sooner than later a team will win a crappy division with a record of 8-9.
Also, when a division winner at 9-8 hosts a 13-4 wildcard winner, that's wrong.

They’d still make the playoffs under this change.

Just the seeding after they make it will change.

It's happened a few times. I believe Seattle, Carolina, the Bucs and Commanders have gone to the playoffs with losing records as a division winner.

The one people remember is when a 7-9 Seahawks team hosted a 13-3 Saints team. The Seahawks won in an upset in part to Marshawn Lynch's incredible "Beast Mode" TD run. Under the proposed rule change, the Seahawks would have been on the road.

I don’t think so. When you have the AFCWest playing the AFCEast, A team winnin the AFCSouth may be the better team but after playing the AFC North they end up with a poorer record.

Like someone said earlier you’d have to get rid of the division schedule altogether for something like what you’re proposing to work.

Don't think any of the teams in the NFC East, NFC North or AFC North would agree with that. Division rivalries are a legitimate thing (just not so much in the AFC South)

Dude. I work for this Chinese company. I’m not supposed to say it…but I am a 3rd party employee to Disney/ESPN. No guys running around the building with slanted eyes selling noodles and chopsticks.
The chinese own Disney correct?

Look at what ESPN has become since.
