NFL fines Jameson Williams $19,697 for obscene gesture

Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams celebrated a touchdown with an homage to Marshawn Lynch, falling backward into the end zone and grabbing his crotch. The NFL was not amused.

Williams has been fined $19,697 for what the NFL deemed “obscene gestures.”

The league often comes down harder on players for celebrations than for illegal hits. In fact, Williams’ fine this week was the biggest any player got for any action — more than other players got for hip-drop tackles, facemasking, hits on defenseless players and other violations of player safety rules.

Williams has developed into one of the Lions’ best offensive players, but he has also run afoul of the league office repeatedly, including suspensions for violations of both the gambling policy and the PED policy. And now he’s getting his paycheck docked.
 
Patrick Mahomes fined $14,069 for violent gesture

The NFL’s crackdown on violent gestures has hit the league’s biggest star.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was fined $14,069 for what the league called a violent gesture in Sunday’s game against the Bills.

The gesture, in which Mahomes appeared to mimic shooting a rifle, came after he threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass.

The NFL has fined several players for similar gestures, including finger guns and pretending to shoot a bow and arrow.

Kuechly - Played 9 seasons, won ROY then made All Pro his last 8 seasons.
Allen - Averaged 1.27 sacks/game. Unblockable in his prime.
Gates - Consistent receiver first TE that excelled into his 30's.
Smith - Carried a Carolina offense without playing with HOF QB. One of the toughest players to tackle that I've seen.

1) The rest of these players belong in the Hall of Very Good.
2) I don't put kickers into the HOF.

Jameson Williams will not face a concealed weapon charge

Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams will not be charged with any crime related to an October traffic stop in Detroit.

Prosecutors were reviewing whether Williams should be charged for carrying a concealed weapon without a license when he and his brother were pulled over for speeding. Williams was a passenger in the car and did not have a concealed weapons license for his firearm.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said on Monday that the facts of the case do not support charges under the law.

“We have looked at this case thoroughly and objectively. We did not consider that Mr. Williams is a Detroit professional athlete in our decision making. We have charged Detroit area athletes before and would not have hesitated to do so again if the facts of this case could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” Worthy said in a statement, via the Detroit Free Press. “When it comes to charging decisions, we do not take into consideration who the potential defendant is, how much power and influence they have, or how beloved they may be. We deal with the facts and the law only.”

Williams served a two-game suspension for a performance-enhancing drug policy violation earlier this season. He has 29 catches for 602 yards and four touchdowns this season.

NFL removes Jabrill Peppers from commissioner exempt list

Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers has missed the last seven games while on the commissioner exempt list, but he’s now eligible to return to action.

The NFL removed Peppers from the list on Monday, which means he is now able to take part in all team activities and could play in this week’s game against the Colts.

Peppers went on the list after being arrested and charged with assault, strangulation and drug possession in October. A trial is scheduled to begin in January and it’s not clear what led to the change in Peppers’s status while the legal process plays out.

The league’s announcement also says its own investigation into the allegations against Peppers is ongoing and that the change in Peppers’s status does not have anything to do with where that stands.

At the time of Peppers’s arrest, Patriots owner Robert Kraft said that “if what was reported is true, he’s gone” in reference to the safety’s future with the team. There’s been no comment from the club since the NFL announced the change to Peppers’s status.

Another thought….Ryans should hire Eberflus as his DC. Similar in the way they approach their defense and both have successful track records as DC’s. This could be a good move in freeing Ryans up to focus on exclusively being the HC.

Now to find an OC with a similar track record of success.

Commanders place Ekeler on IR, release Forbes

The Commanders placed running back Austin Ekeler on injured reserve on Saturday and released cornerback and former first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes Jr.

Forbes started only seven games in two seasons and played in only six games in 2024 with one start. He was benched both years, but also suffered from various injuries that sidelined him. If Forbes goes unclaimed on waivers, he would count $9.1 million against their salary cap in 2025.

Burke is doing a good job in his role. Eberflus would not likely want to concede play calling and could surely find a team that will allow him full control of the defense.
