NFL Random Thought of the Day

Broncos LB Drew Sanders tore his Achilles during offseason program just before the Draft.............his surgery was performed shortly thereafter. He will be lucky to return before the end of the season.

Young needs more than a change of offense.......................he needs a change to his own performance.

Dave Canales: Bryce Young has been “fantastic” learning the Panthers’ new offense
By Michael David Smith
Published May 21, 2024 04:00 AM

Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is heading into his second NFL season, learning his second offense, and Dave Canales is Young’s third head coach. Canales is pleased with what Young has done this offseason, with a lot of change and a lot to learn.

Asked how Young is picking up the new playbook, Canales said Young already has a great handle on the concepts in the Panthers’ offense.

“He’s doing fantastic with it,” Canales said.

After the Panthers’ first voluntary full-team offseason practice, Canales said Young has grasped what the coaching staff is teaching him.

“As I expect him to do, he’s really mastering that part of it,” Canales said. “So, really pleased.”
Young struggled through an ugly rookie year last season, with the Panthers winning just two games and finishing with the worst record in the NFL. Young didn’t look like a first overall pick should look, and it’s

Canales’s job to change that. So far, Canales thinks they’re heading in the right direction.

NFL owners approved a rule limiting the length of head coaching interviews with assistant coaches whose teams are still in the playoffs to a maximum of three hours, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Unlike what Browns were hoping for, Nick Chubbs will not be ready for OTAs, minicamp or preseason. With his multiligament knee surgeries (2 last season), when he does come back is questionable........and if he can return to anywhere close to what he was preinjury is even more questionable.

Australia is a bad idea. It just further shows how the NFL doesn't give a crap about the players.
If the NFL really wants to start raising the profile of their game, then they need to make it readily accessible to the mass market via televised games - at home, then abroad.
There are a lot of people in Australia they like the game, but you need to buy this or that to watch.
I remember they used to have a spot on one of the regular networks late night for an hour of weekly highlights with a known personality (can't remember his name?😅).
That was like 20-25 years ago.
Currently they have this - https://freeview.com.au/watch-tv/shows/cc19eed3-ed7d-4f6e-b909-935e48c1441d

What made you think the NFL cares about anything but money? It's a business. It thinks and acts accordingly.

They just want to make money. They think this will help make more money. If they thought playing on the moon was a moneymaker, they would do that.

Hey, it's like that here for the most part. I could get the local games over the air. But I'll need ESPN for MNF. Prime Video for TNF. Apparently, Netflix if I want to get away from the family and watch some football on Christmas (and I will want that). Oh, I need my RedZone. I'm not so far gone to go YouTube total access. But I can see myself getting there as I slip into dementia.

Football will take everything, including your heart and soul. But first, they're coming after your money.

Andy Reid on Harrison Butker: Everybody has a voice and “it’s a great thing about America”
By Mike Florio
Published May 22, 2024 04:13 PM

The Chiefs had nothing to say last week when the commencement address from kicker Harrison Butker were making waves. Now we know why.

Like Bill Murray finding a Baby Ruth at the bottom of an empty pool, the man who runs the show in K.C. regards the situation as no big deal.

“I didn’t talk to him about this,” coach Andy Reid told reporters on Wednesday. “I didn’t think we need to. We’re a microcosm of life here. Everybody’s from different areas, different religions, different races. And so we all get along. We all respect each others opinions. And not necessarily do we go by those, but we respect everybody to have a voice. It’s a great thing about America, man. And we’re just, like I said, a microcosm and . . . my wish is that everybody could kind of follow that.”

Butker’s remarks included criticism of the current president on the issue of abortion. As to whether Butker will accompany the Chiefs for their traditional post-Super Bowl White House visit, Reid said, “I’m sure he will, yeah.”
Reid also was asked what he would say to women employed by the Chiefs who raise concerns with Reid regarding Butker’s comments about women in the workforce.

“That hasn’t happened,” Reid said. “I don’t think he was speaking ill of women. He has his opinions, and we all respect that. I let you guys in this room and you have a lot of opinions that I don’t like.”

Reid also said the situation isn’t a distraction for the Chiefs. “The guys are good with that,” Reid said. “They understand. They understand how things work. I mean, everybody’s got their own opinion. And that’s what so great about this country. You can share those things and you work through it. And that’s what guys do.”
Right or wrong, Reid views the situation as a non-issue. Whether that’s because they currently have bigger problems (e.g., Rashee Rice) or whether Reid agrees with everything Butker said is open for debate and discussion.

Still, Reid seemed to be borderline dismissive and at one point almost flippant about the flap. He was likely trying to make a joke when he said, “I let you guys in this room and you have a lot of opinions that I don’t like.” Still, there’s a difference between the stuff the media says about a football team and the hot-button subjects Butker addressed.

The bottom line is this. If Butker weren’t a really good kicker, he’d be susceptible to replacement for someone who doesn’t stand out, one way or the other. If/when he gets a case of the yips, Reid’s shoulder shrug could quickly morph into a pink slip.

Lamar Jackson recently said that he’s down to 205 pounds after playing at 215 pounds last year and 230 pounds during the 2022 season. On Wednesday, he said he cut weight because he wanted to increase his agility to where it was several years ago.

This should definitely improve his already great durability! :sarcasm:

Agreed

Wellington Mara is rolling over in his grave.

This is following a bankruptcy filing of 4-time Super Bowl champion Bill Romanowski for a $15.5 million unpaid tax bill. Romanowski in his 16 year career (1988-2023) in a period which did not pay players like those in the last decade, earned $30 million.

Former NFL wide receiver and Super Bowl champion Antonio Brown has filed for bankruptcy, according to reports.

Brown, 35, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as he owes nearly $3 million to at least eight creditors, according to documents filed Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of Florida, the Times Union reports.

The seven-time NFL Pro Bowler owes $1.2 million that was awarded to Anton Tumanov, a Florida truck driver who was reportedly assaulted by Brown in 2020. He also owes about $970,000 to Zül-Qarnain Nantambu, a hip hop artist, filmmaker and fashion designer, according to his Facebook page, WNYT13 reports. Brown’s additional debts include $312,000 owed to a marketing firm, $169,000 to a law firm and about $83,000 on a credit card, according to WNYT13.

In his bankruptcy filing, Brown claims $50,000 or less in assets to his name. Brown made more than $80 million in career earnings throughout his 12-year NFL career from 2010 to 2021 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

When are players going to be educated in the fact that they’re “Flash Rich”…..money today, no residual money for life?

You’re a football player in the here and now. This could end today, tomorrow, or 15 years from now….there are no guarantees, other than you’ll get a tax bill for the rest of your life on everything with your name on it.

They have to learn that their football money is a nest egg.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is already back on the field practicing during OTAs and has no doubt he will be ready for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, despite tearing the ACL in his right knee late last year.

Is anybody surprised things turned out this way for AB?

This chapter 11 is BS. Only $50k in assets? Brown probably has that much stuffed in a kitchen drawer. 20X that in jewelry. 30X in cars. The guy is just a typical deadbeat trying to get away with not paying his bills.

I'm well aware of Chapter 11 Laws. That law has cost me many thousands of dollars.

Why does every pic of Richardson show the big cartoon windup?

It's amazing what the Cleveland press tries to make of Watson when there is nothing there. The pass was essentially no more than a short lob.

MAY 23 - ONE HAND SNAG? - Cleveland Browns second-year receiver Cedric Tillman made a magnificent one-handed catch during Wednesday's OTAs. Tillman came in motion, set up in the slot, and ran a crisp 10-yard out. The pass from Deshaun Watson was put on a line, and Tillman made the amazing catch.

If you watch the video closely, you will see that Watson wasn't even looking at Tillman. He was looking downfield and still hit a pinpoint pass to Tillman on the boundary.

Shoulder injuries are notoriously hard to predict in terms of recovery. Until I see Watson throw the ball deep multiple times in a game...for multiple games, I'd say the jury is still out.
