Watching Giants' WR Shepard game, I would be entirely shocked if he did not suffer an ACL rupture. The injury was non contact with left knee hyperextension. Shepard suffered a left Achilles rupture December last season........also against the Cowboys. No official word.

Per MRI, Giants WR Sterling Shepard did in fact suffer a torn ACL on the last play of the game against the Cowboys...............ACL #23.

On NFLN this morning they announced the cause of the accident was that Garrett swerved to avoid an animal and over corrected causing the roll over. Investigation still underway

NFL players are petitioning the league to replace all artificial turf with natural grass.
  • The players are citing an increased injury rate with playing on turf versus grass.
  • Odell Beckham Jr.'s non-contact injury in the Super Bowl is the most recent example.

Odell Beckham Jr.'s non-contact injury in the Super Bowl has sparked a public backlash against artificial field turf in the NFL.
Beckham, 29, appeared to get his foot stuck in the turf at SoFi Stadium — the home stadium of his team, the Los Angeles Rams — while he was running a route in the second quarter. He may have suffered another torn ACL, according to the Los Angeles Rams, which is the same injury that forced Beckham to end his season early in 2020.

After Beckham's injury, several NFL players launched a Change.org petition for the league to ban artificial turf and replace it with natural grass. High-profile players including San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa and tight end George Kittle, took to Twitter, posting the petition with #FlipTheTurf, citing Beckham's injury as the latest example, and sharing their own stories.

"Every player is one play away from altering their career forever when playing on turf. I experienced the bad side of this and it could have been avoided," Bosa wrote.

Players have a higher risk of injury while playing on turf, according to NFL injury data

Injury data collected by the NFL player's union, the NFLPA, from 2012 to 2018 suggested that playing on turf comes with a significantly higher risk of various injuries than natural grass.

According to the NFLPA, their data found that players have a 28% higher rate of non-contact lower extremity injuries when playing on artificial turf, including a 32% higher rate of non-contact knee injuries on turf and a 69% higher rate of non-contact foot or ankle injuries on turf compared to grass.

Turf pellets are rubber material and are harder and denser than natural grass and mulch. Turf creates a harder impact on players' legs and joints with each step, and can also trap a player's cleats under harder pressure, making it more often for them to get stuck in turf.

The NFL is split into 16 teams that play on real grass at their home stadium and 16 that play on artificial turf.
Of the 16 teams that play on artificial turf, 13 of them were among the league's top 16 most injured teams in 2021, according to an NFL injury data summary.

Of the 16 teams that play on natural grass, just three were among the league's top 16 most injured teams in 2021. Each of the top three least-injured teams, the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles, all play on natural grass in their home stadium.

Players claim that 90% of them prefer playing on real grass

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb, who sprained his MCL in a game against the Dallas Cowboys in October 2020, blamed the turf at AT&T stadium for his injury in a Twitter post during the Super Bowl, and claimed that 90% of NFL players prefer to play on natural grass.

Chubb's "90%" statistic was cited by tight end George Kittle and defensive end Nick Bosa, and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers stars who were central to an artificial turf controversy in October 2020.

Six of the team's players, including Bosa, Kittle, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, suffered non-contact injuries at MetLife Stadium in a game against the New York Jets. The 49ers players and coaches publicly blamed the quality of the stadium's turf for each injury after the game.

The NFL conducted an official inspection of the field and "certified that the field was in compliance with all applicable NFL policies," according to a press release. However, the 49ers griped that the field's compliance with the NFL policies was not the issue and that the NFL should instead change their policies to ban turf.

The NFL has not responded to Insider's request for comment about the debate over turf at the Super Bowl.

I saw that. That is not an uncommon "excuse" used by those in a one-man accident. Glaringly absent was the speed which would have been necessary to explain/create the multiple rollovers.

Prescott and Jones have been saying that Prescott could probably be back to start week 4. As I previously posted, that was ridiculous, Now his thumb is still significantly swollen. He's nowhere close to being able to throw.

But I gotta admit that that said, there's damn sure a market for it and within that world of that kind of blather he appears to be pretty doggone good at it, and again, whatever it is, lol..
 
Former Giants RB Michael Cox wins $28.5 million verdict in medical malpractice case

Former Giants running back Michael Cox has secured a gargantuan verdict in a case arising from allegations of medical malpractice in connection with surgery to repair an ankle injury that Cox suffered in December 2014.
Via the New York Post, Cox won $28.5 million against Dr. Dean Lorich and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Cox received $15.5 million for future pain and suffering, $12 million for lost earnings, and $1 million for past pain and suffering.

Lorich died a year after the lawsuit was filed, in what was ruled a suicide.

“The jury spoke with a clear and unambiguous voice that Mr. Cox received inadequate medical care and treatment and was significantly injured as a result,” Cox’s attorney, Jordan Merson, said, per the Post. “We are pleased with the jury’s decision.”

A lawyer representing the defendants promised to appeal, calling the verdict “inconsistent with the evidence in the case.”

In order to keep the football (soccer) pitch (playing surface) in optimum condition, there are two different surfaces – a Desso GrassMaster hybrid grass pitch for football, and a synthetic turf surface underneath to be used for NFL games, as well as concerts and other events.The football pitch can be retracted in a way similar to that of the Arizona Cardinal's stadium.

Curious that as the NFL keeps on so strongly harping on "safety," they promote the synthetic turf which is well-known and repeatedly-proven to have a very much higher incidence of lower extremity injuries than grass. Just another way that the NFL talks through both sides of their mouth.

 
From what I have found, the Browns have initially conveniently left out the most important results of his accident. Garrett suffered no concussion............he suffered no fractures.............BUT, he has suffered both a biceps strain and a shoulder sprain.

Coming from a Cowboys fan, I thought Michael was hilarious, especially when he mentioned the Bible and mighty men of valor, I was in tears. I do watch and appreciate good analysis, but a little trash talk entertains me.

Irvin is a good analyst,but all the screaming and yelling makes me change the channel. And I know it’s for ratings etc, but I’m fine with regular volume debate
 
Myles Garrett cited for failure to control vehicle in Monday’s crash

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has issued a citation to Browns defensive end Myles Garrett as a result of the car crash that sent him to the hospital on Monday.

According to multiple reports, has been cited for failure to control his vehicle. The citation goes on to note that “unsafe speed for the type of roadway being traveled appeared to be a contributing circumstance” to the crash, which saw Garrett’s Porsche flip over before coming to a stop.

Before the citation was announced, it was noted that Garrett has received six other speeding tickets in the Cleveland area since 2017.

Garrett suffered injuries to his shoulder and biceps in addition to lacerations in the crash and he did not practice on Wednesday. The Browns said that they expect him back for Thursday’s workout.

BEREA, Ohio -- Myles Garrett was cited for failure to control his vehicle and for traveling at an unsafe speed for the roadway, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to the crash report, Garrett was traveling 65 mph in a 45 zone in Sharon Township in Medina County on Monday afternoon when he was on his way home from practice. His Porsche 911 hit a ditch and then a fire hydrant before it flipped several times.


Garrett, who has been stopped for speeding multiple times since he was drafted No. 1 overall in 2017, suffered a sprained shoulder, strained biceps and cut hand. He was back at the Browns facility on Thursday, and hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game in Atlanta.

Both he and his female passenger, Yiana Tjotjos of Rocky River, Ohio, were treated and released from a nearby hospital Monday night.

According to the crash report, Garrett “suffered an abrasion to his right hand/wrist and reported pain in his right hand/wrist, right bicep, left shoulder and left side of his face.” Tjotjos “suffered a minor head injury.”

Tax records show that in 2018, the foundation gave the USM Athletic Foundation $60,000. Every other organization received $10,000. In 2019, the USM Athletic Foundation received $46,817. The next highest donation, to the Special Olympics of Mississippi, was $11,000. The next year, Favre 4 Hope donated $26,175 to the USM Athletic Foundation while no other organization received more than $10,000.

Hearing in Alvin Kamara battery case moved to November 9

A hearing in Saints running back Alvin Kamara‘s battery case set has been rescheduled for the third time.

David Charns of KLAS reports that the hearing has been reset for November 9. Lawyers for Kamara and three other defendants, including Chiefs cornerback Chris Lammons, asked the judge for more time to meet with Las Vegas prosecutors in an attempt to resolve the case without going to a trial.

Kamara, Lammons, and the other defendants were not in attendance. The four men are charged with battery for an incident outside of a Las Vegas nightclub in February.

Kamara and Lammons are subject to NFL discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy, but any penalty will likely come after the case has been resolved and the latest delay makes it less likely that will happen before the end of the 2022 season.

Yes, I have an HD TV, an older model that doesn't have the new 4G stuff, or whatever you call new new stuff. My TV is probably close to ten years old. It's a Samsung 39" HD.

Dr. Allen Sills vows to release results of Tua Tagovailoa investigation “to everyone”

As the NFL and NFL Players Association investigate the circumstances resulting in Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa‘s return to play on Sunday against the Bills, the NFL’s Chief Medical Officer has made an important commitment.

In an interview with NFL Media’s Judy Battista, Dr. Allen Sills promised full transparency with the outcome of the investigation, which the NFLPA requested.

“As soon as we finish that review, we’ll release the results of that to everyone,” Dr. Sills said. “We want to be as transparent and open about this as possible. We certainly want to learn, to improve, to get better. And we want to be the best in the world at diagnosing and managing these injuries. And so if we find that we fell short, or if we find that there are things that we need to change, we will certainly be up front about doing that. We’ve done that before, and we will certainly do that again, if that’s what’s indicated.”

Sills said that there will be “very serious consequences” if the concussion protocol was not followed. It’s also possible, as we’ve previously explained, that the protocol was followed but that it needs to be changed to, in this case, prevent players from returning to play after they exhibit gross motor instability.

The problem in this case is that the team physician and the Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant found that Tua’s gross motor instability did not have a neurological cause. Few seem to believe that based, on the video. Sills never focused on that critical issue in the nearly nine-minute interview.

We’ve asked the league this specific question three times since Tua returned to play on Sunday: How did the team physician and the UNC conclude that Tua’s “gross motor instability” was not neurologically caused? The first two times we asked that question, there was no response. Today, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy declined to answer “as it part of the review which is ongoing.”

That’s fine, but if there’s going to be any transparency as to the outcome of the review, that’s the most important question. And if it’s determined that the team physician and the Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant properly (somehow) ruled out a neurological cause of the wobbliness that all witnessed, the next question is whether that loophole will be closed, making any gross motor instability an automatic “no go.”
