NFL Random Thought of the Day

Would take Winston/Mariota over last year's QB class and it's not even close. The Texans just seem to suck in the wrong years.

Absolutely no offense, but good organizations don't say that. Damn it, I want the Texans to be one of those organizations.

Nope. Don't like it. The extra point should be a dead ball reward play for scoring a TD, not an opportunity for a team to catch a break for their failure.

It was 'meaningful' enough the way it was. If team 'A' needed that XP to tie or go ahead of team 'B' at the end of a game and team 'B' blocked it then team 'B's' defense saved the day. What was wrong with that?

XP haven't been meaningful until this year. Why do you think they changed it? The point of the game is to protect the ball and score.
 
Desean Jackson just made the dumbest punt return I've ever seen. He went from the 24-yardline to the 2 trying to reverse field and then fumbled to hand Dallas the game. And then Jackson gets a 28-yard TD reception. A little bit of redemption there for him.

Sounds like he has some Jacoby Jones in him (except for the part about catching a TD). Maybe he is trying to get the Cowboys to sign him next year.

That still tilted things in favor of the Cowboys, and tieing the score didn't change that. One of the stupidest/most damaging football plays I remember seeing.

You don't have to "give" anybody anything. Scoring TDs in this league isn't easy. If they're going to have this thing called an extra point, you still have to earn it by executing a play, but it shouldn't be set up where the offense's reward for scoring a TD is made harder, just because fans think the play is boring. And the defense damn sure shouldn't have a chance to be rewarded for their failure.

If you absolutely need the play to be meaningful, put the ball back at the 2 yard line and drop kick it. In fact, all FGs inside 30 yards should be drop kicked seeing as how only 5 out of 196 have been missed inside 30 yards this season.

Do something like that if you absolutely just have to have the play have some sort of special meaning or whatever, but giving the defense the opportunity to score on an untimed play is stupid.
 
I do agree, blocks on the PAT shouldn't result in a live ball. Neither on the 2 point conversion, a failed attempt is just a failed attempt.
 
I am in favor of rewarding special teams for blocking a kick and running it back or picking off a qb in a 2 point conversion and taking it to the house. Just gives some excitement in an otherwise boring play.

Yeah, I know. I had to edit that last part in because I said he handed the game to Dallas. 30 seconds later he scored the TD & I was thinking I jumped the gun with the comment. That game changed from a boring 9-9 defensive affair to an exciting finish pretty fast.
 
A'Shawn Robinson, Zeke Elliot, Corey Coleman, Andrew Billings all still on that mock there ... and I think come April Wentz will look cherry at that spot.

Watching Palmer and Arizona lets you me know how great of a coach Arians and his staff is. Instead of playing AJ as a slot, like Fitz, they cut him. Deone Buchanan was and drafted as a safety, now he's a hybrid lb leading a top 5 defense along with the undersized Mathieu. Palmer was done, now he's a mvp candidate.
 
Bengals in a world of hurt. Dalton injured. Now has a cast on his throwing hand. Reported as a thumb issue.

Dalton by video looks like he sustained an ulnar collateral ligament tear (like Fitzpatrick's tear of his non-throwing thumb) or a fracture (most likely a Bennett's fracture like Duane Browns') of the his thumb. He has already been fitted with a thumb spica cast. If indeed he does not require surgical repair, he will still be in a cast for at least 3 weeks for a ligament tear, and 4-8 weeks for a fracture. If he requires surgery, that thumb will likely be cast or splinted for 6-8 weeks for either. Either scenario, a QB can't function with a cast or splint on their throwing thumb.
 
ps Hasselback was also knocked out of the game. It will be interesting to see how they handle it. Rush Luck back or pick up another QB?
 
No matter what you think of Green Bay, I think it's pretty cool to watch Rogers emerge after a Packer icon like Favre and carve his own place in a team's history. The guy just ran for a 1st down that was a really smart play. Reminds me of what Steve Young did after Joe Montana. Or what Ken Stabler did after Dan Pa.........nevermind. :D
