NFL Random Thought of the Day

I’m also gonna go on record and say that Reid’s play calling is overrated. His offense consists of a bunch of pic plays that shouldn’t be legal. And when the chips are down what usually happens is Mahomes pulls some BS scrambling play outta his ass…or the refs bail them out with a BS penalty.

Andy Dalton was able to go beast mode with the Panthers roster. Not a good look for the mayor of Munchkinland.

Darnold and Malick Willis are both going to get paid big this off-season, Dalton could get a Fitzmagic-like career as an old backup. Willis has also been a better QB than Levis so far.

Raiders safety Marcus Epps sustained a "knee injury." Looking at the noncontact play after which he was able to walk off the field, he appears to have hyperextended his left knee................ACL is certainly a possibilityworry.

Sorry, Jerry, but Cowboys could have afforded Derrick Henry
By Mike Florio

After Ravens running back Derrick Henry gained 151 yards and scored two touchdowns against a beleaguered Dallas defense, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that his team didn’t sign the modern-day Jim Brown in free agency because they couldn’t afford him.

That’s a crock of something other than butter.

They could have afforded him. They chose not to pursue him.

Henry’s deal with the Ravens has a cap number of $5.105 million in 2024. The Cowboys currently have $25.8 million in cap space.

While things were tight earlier in the offseason, it’s the Cowboys’ fault they didn’t have more when they had a chance to (wait for it) go “all-in” for someone like Henry. The new deal eventually given to receiver CeeDee Lamb cleared more than $9 million in cap space, and quarterback Dak Prescott’s new contract created well over $10 million.

But the Cowboys dragged their feet on both contracts, for reasons that still make no sense. It never gets cheaper to sign a player who is in line for a new deal.

Instead, the Cowboys sunk $2 million into a reunion with running back Ezekiel Elliott, who had six yards on three carries against Baltimore and who has 62 yards for the season.

So, no, Jerry’s not telling the truth about Henry. Jones could have afforded him. Jones chose not to do what needed to be done to pursue him. And now Jerry’s team is paying the price for his cheapness.

That’s really the root of the Cowboys problems. For all the good he has done for the game, Jerry is cheap. And now, in lieu of pursuing long-lost gloryhole, he’s opting to gaslight his fan base into believing that his poor little mom-and-pop operation (with a $250 million superyacht moored out back) couldn’t scrape together the cash and cap space to sign one of the best running backs in the league.

Sunshine is garbage
For as bad as we've had it during our tenure in the league, Jacksonville has clearly had it worse. Jesus Id put them right there with the Bears and Browns where QBs go to die.

Remember when the owners slotted/capped the draft contracts, because they said missing on a #1 ovrl QB was franchise crippling? Well now the opposite side of that same coin (2nd contracts/free agency) in guaranteed dollars is proving to be just as chaotic. I expect this to also be addressed soon in the near future.

Fautanu was an orthopedist's dream before he was drafted. To require surgery, he would have had to have had a previous dislocation or a piece of bone that one of the patellar ligaments was attached to was pulled off. This knee cap dislocation will likely require ligament repair and/or translocation. Depending on which procedure is chosen, the recovery could be anywhere from 10 weeks to 7 months.

RT Troy Fautanu will undergo knee surgery but could return if Steelers make playoffs

Steelers rookie right tackle Troy Fautanu was diagnosed with a dislocated kneecap and will undergo surgery to repair the ligament damage, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

He will miss the entire regular season but could return it Pittsburgh makes the postseason, per Rapoport.

The Steelers placed Fautanu on injured reserve Saturday, a day after he injured his knee at practice.

The team initially listed him as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Chargers.

The Steelers selected Fautanu in the first round of the 2024 draft. Broderick Jones started at right tackle in Week 1, and Fautanu did not get in the game.

In Week 2, Fautanu started and played 55 snaps to 11 for Jones.
Jones will take over the job full time in Fautanu’s absence.
Like I previously posted, Achilles tendonitis must be taken very seriously since there is significant risk of Achilles rupture. Shanahan says McCaffrey will be day-to-day..............it should be more like week-to-week.

Christian McCaffey has been dealing with a "calf injury" for quite a while. As I have previously posted, a calf injury is not uncommonly misdiagnosed for an Achilles problem. Such is now revealed that McCaffrey has in fact been dealing with "Achilles tendonitis".................a precursor to Achilles tendon rupture.
McCaffrey is off to Germany..................not for vacation. He is going there to be treated for his Achilles tendonitis with platelet rich plasma injections. Platelet rich plasma in Germany is much more processed and refined than that legally available in the US. This most assuredly will prolong his IR stint.

The team reports that Justin Herbert will be a game-time decision. He just sustained what was reported as a "mild" high ankle sprain. To put him out there 1 week post injury trying to play thru it, is an open invitation for aggravation of the injury and an even longer rehab..................or a compensatory injury...................not to mention how questionable his performance (esp., mobility) would be.
This is exactly what ended up happening.

Quoted for truth.

Jags Oline has been struggling mightily all year... Come with the bears game plan and they should win in blowout fashion... Be aggressive and bring the heat on defense.
They need a good strong win just to get them back up off the mat.
I just hope they don't let it go to their heads if they do.
