NFL Random Thought of the Day

Doubt anyone claims him off waivers, the rest of his contract aint cheap. Also he has fallen off from his peak.

Honestly been waiting for a retirement announcement to follow this news.

He's absolutely right but in today's NFL, money (profit) and player safety (expense) drive the league more than ever.
Profit has driven the NFL since the 90s, it’s nothing new. Relocation of teams, skyrocketing values of franchises and the salary cap continuously increasing. Brady benefited from two of those directly.

I agree the emphasis on player safety is changing the game, but all sports have to/are evolving

True profit has always driven the NFL but in the last 20 or so years the revenue of the NFL is up over 300%. The rate of increase by far exceeds any other sport globally. And after Covid, the owners are more protective than ever of their profits, IMO. Sure players will benefit financially too just like the owners but is the game actually evolving into a better on the field product? The latter will always be subjective and regardless I still enjoy the game itself.

He's so brave to survive the horrors of being a white billionaire...

It's not easy.

I mean, it's hard to tell if people like you and want to be with you for who you are as a person or for how much you're paying them.

It's really commendable that Irsay is coming out in public like this and making the insignificant peons of the world aware of this heart-rending hardship.

My heart breaks for this poor guy.

Thank god he can almost afford enough alcohol to drown his sorrows and forget the awful pain from time to time.

And I suppose his brief stop in a county jail somehow wasn't filled to the brim with the 'average guy down the block' who was pulled in for driving while intoxicated.

Odd.

Packers TE Luke Musgrave suffered a kidney laceration when he fell on the ball he was carrying. The team has placed himm on IR and says he should be back later this season. In my experience, 3 months is a minimum for a player to avoid a contact sport.........no matter the extent of the laceration.

Defensive lineman Harald Hasselbach, a member of the Broncos’ teams that won back-to-back Super Bowls in the late 1990s, has died at age 56. The cause of death has been listed as mucinous adenocarcinoma. He was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic disease only 6 months ago. It is a very curable cancer when diagnosed in early stage, but very virulent when not caught until the later stages. Although the primary site has not been identified, the most common site of origin for this cancer in a male is the colon.

It would be a ducking crime if Rogers tries to return or the Jets let him return this season versus letting him prepare for 2024. They could focus on sacking this season for a better draft position. Adding a top WR for A-A-Ron to throw to could be a massive asset.

Selective "justice."

Dion Dawkins fined for unnecessary roughness, but nobody fined for tunnel fight

Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins got into it with Jets defensive lineman Micheal Clemons during Sunday’s game. The nastiness continued into the tunnel after the game.

Dawkins was fined $10,927 for his unnecessary roughness penalty in the fourth quarter, but neither player was fined for their postgame fight.

Dawkins said after the game that he was not a fan of the “disrespectful” Jets.
His fine was one of three from the Bills-Jets game.

Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner was fined $10,927 for an unnecessary roughness penalty in the third quarter. He picked up Bills receiver Stefon Diggs and threw him to the turf.

The league docked Jets tight end Jeremy Ruckert $6,370 for lowering his helmet to initiate contact with Bills cornerback Dane Jackson. Jackson was diagnosed with a concussion and will not play Sunday at Philadelphia.

Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver was not fined for a roughing the passer penalty.

You've got to asked yourself......if the infraction is such to incur such a large fine, how do the zebras miss it?? :mcnugget:

Amon-Ra St. Brown fined $43,709 for block that wasn’t flagged
By Michael David Smith

The NFL’s disciplinary process has once again come down hard on a player for an infraction that the officials on the field didn’t see as a penalty.

This time it’s Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who was fined $43,709 for a hit that the league referred to as unnecessary roughness. It was by far the stiffest fine handed out by the NFL for Week 11.

On the play in question, a running play, St. Brown was blocking downfield when he hit Bears safety Jaquan Brisker. It was a hard collision and there was helmet contact, but it was far from the most vicious hit you’ll ever see on a football field. It looked like a fairly ordinary block.

The NFL players’ union has complained that league-imposed fines are often excessive and inconsistent, and this is one that St. Brown is sure to appeal.

It’s a very big fine for a play that didn’t appear to warrant it.

Poor Gamblers.............also getting screwed by the dishonest NFL......this is what happens when gambling enters sports...............it all :cheese:

I didn’t really pay attention to your posts about gambling and the NFL. I don’t gamble. I don’t notice all the gambling stuff - until just now.

I pull up ESPN and notice on the head to head breakdown between Jags and Texans that there is a “bettor’s nugget”.

Then when I click on gamecast link I notice now there is ESPN BETS. (No not Black Entertainment) It is the spread and money line information.

Maybe I don’t go to ESPN that much or never noticed it.

But it’s rather surprising to me.

Myles Garrett strangely was in and out of the game throughout yesterday's game. From his facial expressions caught at times during the game, he was evidently in pain. He was a nonfactor in the game. He later stated that during the game, he felt a pop in his left shoulder injury. Post game, he was having problems lifting his left arm to even get into his shirt. He was seen with his left arm in a sling. I'm sure that he will be undergoing an MRI today.

With this history, there are several things that come to mind...............none of them good.............a shoulder dislocation with ligament and labrumm tear and/or rotator cuff tear and/or bone fracture and/or articular damage.

I'm not sure Peters would be an upgrade, but based on the Texans CB's play it sure wouldn't be a bad kicking of the tires to bring him in. He and the Raiders just didn't mesh so it wouldn't be bad to see how he responds to Ryans.....maybe he brings out the best in MP.
