NFL Random Thought of the Day

Absolutely. We should only sign players whose agents consistently refuse to get his clients the most money possible.
We shouldn't deal with agent like DM except when elite players are represented by him. It's like they didn't learn a darned thing from the Derrick fiasco.

Example: I wouldn't bring Nelson back after next year.

Antonio Brown’s arena team in Albany gets kicked out of its league
Posted by Mike Florio on June 15, 2023, 1:40 PM EDT

Sports teams take on the personality of their owner. Well, at least one does.

The National Arena League has kicked out the Albany Empire, owned by former NFL receiver Antonio Brown.
https://link.healthinsightjournal.com/c5d58116-f8f7-4371-99b7-8d8f137e6d51
“After exhausting all avenues, the NAL board of owners have decided unanimously to terminate the membership agreement of the Albany Empire,” the league said in a statement. “The decision was reached after an emergency conference call of the members in good standing to discuss the Empire’s failure to pay their league mandated and overdue assessments. Each team is responsible to pay for 1/7 of the league’s operating budget via monthly assessments starting in April. The Empire’s owner, Antonio Brown, was also fined $1,000 for Conduct Detrimental to the League for his recent public comments. Mr. Brown refused to pay that fine.”

The team was given until noon ET on Thursday to make its required payment. It failed to do so, and the team was removed from the league.

Last night, Brown gave a rambling, shirtless press conference during which he wondered whether A.B. would pay A.B. $1 million to play. How have the negotiations been going?

“I’ve been trying to talk to him, and the guy’s got like three different personalities,” Brown said, regarding A.B.

That pretty much says it all.

The guy is there, but nobody is home..

Hopkins desperate to get picked by any team.

Hopkins, who is a free agent, posted on his Instagram story a photograph of him standing in the locker room alongside Patriots outside linebacker Matthew Judon.

“La familia,” Hopkins wrote as a caption.

Chuck Clark waiting for a second opinion regarding his knee injury. The Jets have not officially confirmed the exact nature of the injury, although it appears it is an ACL. Until he was traded to the Jets, in his >1200 consecutive snaps, he never sustained a significant injury. :mcnugget:

Patriots cornerback Jack Jones is arrested for attempting to bring firearms onto a plane
Posted by Mike Florio on June 16, 2023, 11:14 PM EDT

In the dead time between the offseason program and the start of training camp, coaches constantly worry about players getting into trouble. Bill Belichick didn’t have to wait long.

Via Boston25News.com, Patriots cornerback Jack Jones was arrested on Friday at Logan International Airport for attempting to bring two firearms onto a plane, among other alleged violations.

The firearms were found when Jones brought carry-on luggage through airport security checkpoint.

The charges include possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device, per the report.

Jones posted bail of $50,000. He has an arraignment next week.

“We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today,” a Patriots spokesperson told Boston25News.com. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time.”
A fourth-round pick in 2022, Jones appeared in 13 games with two starts as a rookie.

Jimmy Johnson enters Miami Hurricanes’ Ring of Honor, still waits on Cowboys
Posted by Michael David Smith on June 17, 2023, 8:20 AM EDT

Jimmy Johnson is getting more recognition for his great coaching career, even as he continues to wait on recognition from the Cowboys.

The University of Miami Hurricanes have announced that Johnson will be a member of their Class of 2023 Ring of Honor. It’s great recognition for Johnson, who went 52-9 as the Hurricanes’ head coach from 1984 to 1988. But it’s also another reminder that Johnson is still not in the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor.

Johnson left Miami to coach Dallas, with Jerry Jones hiring him shortly after buying the team. Johnson helped turn the Cowboys from the worst team in the league to the best, but he and Jones grew apart and Johnson ultimately left the Cowboys after winning two Super Bowls.

Even though Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, primarily for his success with the Cowboys, Jones has never put him in the Cowboys’ ring of Honor. Asked about it last year, Jones said, “I get to make that decision.”

Some day, Jones may make the decision to honor Johnson. But Miami is doing it first.

The one player confirmed to be entering the 2023 supplemental draft, Purdue wide receiver Milton Wright was ruled academically ineligible ahead of the 2022 college season. After reportedly entering the transfer portal at the end of April, Wright has apparently been approved to be eligible for the 2023 supplemental draft. In three seasons with the Boilermakers, Wright appeared in 27 games with 99 receptions for 1,325 yards and 10 touchdowns. In his final season of 2021, Wright appeared in 11 games with 57 receptions and 732 yards with seven touchdowns.

Wright failed academically in 2021. Then, despite time out for concentrated tutoring, he failed miserably again in 2022. Does anyone really want a WR that runs a 4.52 and has proven himself to be as dumb as a box of rocks? Do any of you realize how difficult it is to not meet the minimal requirements for an athlete's academic eligibility?...........l guess he should be given some credit, as it takes real effort! 1687038995747.png

Cryptic tweet from Matthew Judon sparks DeAndre Hopkins speculation
Posted by Mike Florio on June 17, 2023, 8:54 PM EDT

As the football-following world waits for more word on the future of receiver DeAndre Hopkins, Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon dropped an apparent hint on social media.
GM of the year?” Judon tweeted.

It’s unclear what he meant, or whether he was even referring to Hopkins. Some have interpreted it as Judon giving himself that title for engineering a potential (and maybe eventual) Hopkins acquisition by the Patriots.
Judon then posted a funny gif with a retweet of someone who said “not yet you haven’t done anything.”

Who knows what it means? But it was on a quiet June weekend three years ago that the Patriots stunned everyone by signing quarterback Cam Newton, out of the Carolina blue.

Signing Hopkins would be nearly as surprising, even though the pursuit of Hopkins is known; no one knew the Patriots were talking to Newton. For Hopkins, as Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston recently said during an appearance on WEEI, there are questions about chemistry.

“I think people in the building are still wary, to an extent, of the culture fit,” Curran said. “How much does he want to practice, what kind of hoops are the Patriots themselves gonna have to jump through to accommodate the way he likes to approach the game?”

Regardless, it wouldn’t have gotten this far if the Patriots weren’t interested. The most curious development is that others haven’t jumped in, given that Patriots coach Bill Belichick has decided that Hopkins is worth pursuing.
Then again, after four straight seasons without a postseason win, maybe Belichick’s imprimatur doesn’t mean what it once did.

World's most overrated coach.

Belichick was a head coach for 150 games without Brady as his team's starting quarterback. He went 71-79.

I don't think Jimmy is getting into the Cowboys ring of honor until one of them is dead (Jimmy or Jerry)

David Bakhatian, Packers 3-time Pro Bowler LT tore his ACL in 2020, missed all but 1 game in the 2021 season, and has virtually been unavailable since his initial injury (only 6 games in 2022). Since his original ACL, he has had 2 additional surgeries involving the same ACL. He is now trying to return to practice in TC, although no one is willing to place bets as to when he is really expected back..........to stay.

Really good to see this story. Players flame out of the league for a variety of reasons. I think us Texans fans held it against strong that the Seahawks traded up ahead of the Texans for Tyler Lockett who has had a successful NFL career.

Strong was a talented player and he played the game at a high level in high school and division 1 college football. But in the NFL it didn’t work out.

He placed blame for how his career turned out on OB.

Whether it was injuries or the team he was drafted by, or just being young and taking the opportunity for granted at the end of the day he did not play to expectations in the NFL.

It’s good to see he is mentoring younger players and hopefully making sure that when they get their shot to play that they are in position to make the most of it. Every talented player is going to have a coach they don’t see eye to eye with like Strong had with OB. But the players who succeed in the NFL are able to do so even if they aren’t thrust into their perfect situation. EX: Mahomes/Reid pairing.

Blame RS for getting jumped in the draft again.

He can blame BOB all he wants too. But he was in other teams camps and couldn't make their teams. He just wasn't good enough to play in the NFL.

Report: Tyreek Hill Is Under Investigation For Allegedly Striking A Marina Employee
********************************************************************************************************************

Let me see:thinking:..............Hill is not a nobody NFL player...........the NFL will either not suspend him or will conjure up a BS punishment that hits the pocket change in his coin purse.:foottap:
From your quoted article:
Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640 reports that the alleged victim “does not want to press charges at this time.”
Without cooperation by the alleged victim, it could be impossible to prove a violation.

The Jets have have been curiously hush and have yet to officially report S Chuck Clark's ACL rupture during a practice 8 days ago. But 2 of my sources have confirmed the injury. His seeking a second oponion is in regard to confirming additional injury to the knee. Therefore, I submit..............ACL #3.

The police say that they have completed their investigation and no charges will be filed.

NFL has no comment on latest Tyreek Hill incident
Posted by Mike Florio on June 21, 2023, 4:32 PM EDT

On Tuesday, word emerged that Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill has been accused of hitting a marina employee in the head.

On Wednesday, PFT asked the league for comment on the situation, given the realities of the Personal Conduct Policy. The league has declined comment.

That’s not entirely a surprise; sometimes, when a player is accused of something, the response is “no comment.” Sometimes, the league says, “The matter is under review.”

It’s hard to imagine the NFL completely ignoring it. Even if the person who allegedly was struck doesn’t want to press charges (and he reportedly does not), the NFL could conduct a basic investigation. It could attempt, for example, to examine footage from any surveillance cameras that might have captured the incident.

And here’s the other wrinkle, about which Hill and the Dolphins should be concerned. Under the Personal Conduct Policy, past incidents become potentially aggravating factors when attaching a punishment. And Hill, in 2015, pleaded guilty to charges arising from allegations that he choked and punched his pregnant girlfriend.

By rule, the NFL could never punish him for that incident. But the NFL has engineered the Personal Conduct Policy to allow those incidents to enhance the punishment for things that happen once the player falls within the NFL’s jurisdiction.

Police report: Alleged victim in Tyreek Hill incident wants charges to be brought
Posted by Mike Florio on June 21, 2023, 8:37 PM EDT

The fact that Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill won’t face criminal charges for allegedly hitting a marina employee does not mean he’ll avoid NFL scrutiny. The NFL can still investigate the situation and, if it so desires, punish Hill under the Personal Conduct Policy.

Despite a prior report from Fox Sports 640 that the alleged victim does not want charges to be brought, Angie DiMichele of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the police report indicates that the alleged victim wants charges to be filed.

This suggests that, if the NFL investigates the situation, the alleged victim will be inclined to cooperate.

Even if the alleged victim decides not to cooperate, the police report indicates that surveillance footage of the incident exists. The NFL could obtain and review the video, and make decisions about a potential violation of the Personal Conduct Policy accordingly.

The police report explains that the incident happened Sunday at Haulover Park Marina. Shortly before 7:00 p.m. ET, the alleged victim saw two women on a fishing charter boats without permission. The alleged victim informed his boat captain of the situation, and then told the women to leave the boat.

An argument ensued, and an unidentified “subject” (apparently, Hill) slapped one of the employees on the neck with an open hand while being removed from the argument. The “subject” then ran toward the victim, but he was restrained. The “subject” then fled.
The NFL declined comment on Wednesday afternoon. The Dolphins issued this statement to the Sun-Sentinel: “We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Tyreek, his representatives and the NFL. We will reserve further comment at this time.”
As previously noted, Hill’s history could enhance the penalty imposed by the league, if the NFL decides to impose punishment under the Personal Conduct Policy.

Miami-Dade Police say Tyreek Hill remains under investigation
Posted by Mike Florio on June 22, 2023, 9:16 AM EDT

The reporting regarding the latest Tyreek Hill incident has been all over the place.
The alleged victim reportedly doesn’t want to press charges. The police report, however, says he does.

The investigation into Hill’s role in the situation reportedly has concluded without charges. The police, however, say the investigation continues.

Here’s the first line from the NFL.com item on the matter: “Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill remains under investigation for an allegation of assault and battery, the Miami-Dade (Florida) Police Department confirmed to NFL Media on Wednesday evening.”

The fact that NFL Media sought the clarification and then trumpeted it to the world on the media outlet owned and operated by the league should be regarded as an ominous development by Hill. The NFL has the power to investigate and to discipline Hill for any violation of the Personal Conduct Policy, and to enhance any punishment based on his guilty plea from 2015 for choking and punching his pregnant girlfriend.

The league officially has had no comment on the latest Hill incident. The article on the league’s website says plenty.
This thing seems to be far from over. And Hill, even if he doesn’t end up being charged, could end up being punished by the NFL.
