NFL Random Thought of the Day

ComplexHandmadeHornshark.gif

Who wants to trade for Culter?

Man, how many QBs have bitten the dust this season?
and how is it old farts like Peyton and Tom B. and Drews get through it unscathed?
:pissed:

Jets are going to hire Charlie Casserly to help them find a new coach and GM,

But they're waiting until they fire their current GM/Head Coach before officially hiring Charlie,

That way the inquiries he is making right now around the league won't be considered tampering. Officially. :ok:

2014 Steelers yards/ranking by position group...

2. Ben Roethlisberger, QB PIT 4,635

2. Le'Veon Bell, RB PIT 1,341

1. Antonio Brown, WR PIT 1,570

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

A grade II MCL tear........who knows what outside treatment means.........swelling and an infection in the knee joint........a scope and antibiotics........minimally 3-4 weeks if he doesn't want to scar up and damage his knee even more.

Outside of the team, suspected to have caused the infection...?

Jason Cole ‏@JasonPhilCole
The "outside" treatment Drew Stanton reportedly received could be a source of great curiosity to the #NFL and other teams.

Also this...
NBC Sports Medicine Analyst Mike Ryan points out that, given Stanton’s history, the infection could become a significant problem. The infection, per Ryan, could damage an ACL graft Stanton received a decade ago. Combined with a potential impact on the articular cartilage, the infection could lead to joint instability and accelerated joint arthritis.

I believe I heard on fox yesterday that Stafford threw for 4200 yards and that is his lowest amount of his career.

Aikman made a comment in effect of unbelievable what a different time we live in

All I could think of is that it is a damn shame JJ will probably get shunned from MVP

crazy that I never looked this up. 11 players went over 4000 yards and flaco missed it by 14 yards

so does it really matter what round (if any) you get good players as long as you recognize them and give them a fair shot to perform?

Of course not, but it raises an interesting argument as to whether a Head Coach who drafts his players stays with them longer than a Head Coach whose GM drafts his players for him...? There is an ego/emotional investment.

If your GM is your boss and drafting the players, is your relationship good enough to go to him after training camp and tell him his 3rd rounder is a bust and we need to cut him now?

Perhaps this is the thinking behind head coaches getting absolute control of the final 53 written into their contracts.

Not sure how you got that from Seth's quote. Drafted or UDFA.. I'd imagine it's still the GM doing the shopping.

Don Shula refers to Bill Belichick as 'Beli-cheat'
Don Shula turned 85 on Sunday and has been out of coaching since 1996, but that hasn't stopped the NFL's all-time winningest coach from ribbing on a former division rival.

In a Sun-Sentinel profile to commemorate his birthday, Shula was asked to share his thoughts on the success of active coaching wins leader Bill Belichick.

"Beli-cheat?" Shula responded...

It's a lame charge. He's a CHL holder but they said he was open carrying.

Ahh, okay, thanks. Should've clicked through the RW report to the actual.

I've always thought that the two best ways to run the organization are:

1) Owner hires GM. GM hires HC. HC hires assistants. Very linear progression in responsibility and decision making. This way everybody is on the same page and has the same belief system, otherwise the man above them wouldn't have hired them.

2) Owner hires HC. HC hires assistants and gets responsibility over player acquisition. A "GM" is hired in name only to handle contracts.

In my mind, if you do it any other way it just muddies the waters and you can't clearly define who is responsible for what. Then again, I've been blasted on here before for saying that I believe that the owner should just hire the GM and get the hell out of the way.

Peyton Manning's $19M 2015 salary is fully GTD on the last day of the 2014 league year (March 9/10). There's $5M in dead money w/retirement.

Gregg Doyel ‏@GreggDoyelStar
Peyton Manning outside locker room. His tiny son in a tiny Broncos 18 jersey comes running. Bawling. Peyton on a knee. Hugging.

SI NFL ‏@si_nfl
Father Time may have finally caught up with Peyton Manning, says @SI_DougFarrar http://on.si.com/1Igy5kA

Greg A. Bedard ‏@GregABedard
Peyton Manning exited Mile High Stadium at 6:59 pm MST, with his mother and father. Final time in an NFL stadium? We shall see.

Cecil Lammey ‏@CecilLammey
I'm going to guess that Peyton Manning does not return for the 2015 season. #Broncos I just have a feeling that he's done.

and this we already knew...

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora
Manning wanted to sign with HOU, but the team was doing well with Schaub, wasn't really interested in making that move at that time

With Manning's future in doubt guess it's as good a time as any to pass along I'm told the team he really wanted to go to in '12 was HOU...

Manning suffered a thigh injury earlier this year against San Diego, and he just didn't look right after it.

"It's hung around but I felt like I tried to manage it," Manning said. "I felt like I could manage it. Completed some passes, won some games with it. It just hung around, just that one thigh, but there is nothing more to it than that."

Some inside the organization wonder. I talked to some Broncos players who said Manning was throwing more picks in practice in the past six weeks than at any other time. Before the game, some Colts veterans expressed to Broncos players that Manning's arm looked spent.

"You could tell something wasn't right," one Broncos player said of practice the past month. "He just didn't look like 18 out there."

I love the way that they ignore the second Amendment. Particularly the outrages of the SCOTUS in saying it does not say what it plainly does say.

They don't even bother to change it in the middle of the night like they do in Animal Farm.

Keep in mind that the Militia was every able bodied man at the time. Not an Army. AND well regulated should be translated STANDARDIZED in modern vernacular. This makes use easier, not more restrictive.

Nice alternate reality rant. The S.Ct. rejected the militia argument and has sided with gun owners consistently for the last 10 years when cases have finally reached them.

Who knows what you think the S.Ct. says it says.

But if you want a 2nd amendment discussion, there is a thread in the NSZ very sneakily titled 2nd amendment thread.

Vince Wilfork helps driver trapped in roll over crash
Patriots tackle helps with driver in crash near Gillette
New England Patriots all-star defensive tackle Vince Wilfork scored extra points after the game with Indianapolis Sunday night.

Massachusetts State Police said Wilfork helped them rescue a woman trapped in a car after it rolled over near Gillette Stadium.

When troopers arrived to investigate reports of a vehicle that had rolled over on Route 1 in Foxborough, "to their surprise … Wilfork was beside the vehicle checking on the operator" of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler, police said.

The driver, Mary Ellen Brooks, 38, of Hanson, was unable to get out of the SUV. As police held open the driver's door, "Wilfork reached in and helped lift the operator out of the vehicle with one hand," police said.

Wilfork, who weighs 325 pounds and moves offensive linemen with ease, probably had little trouble lifting Brooks with one hand.

Brooks was charged with drunken driving. It was not known if she had attended the AFC title game.

Wilfork left after asking the troopers if they needed any further assistance.

Is the NFL still trying to get LA to step up and get a team? Last rumor I heard was that the Rams might move back to LA. Another rumor was that the league wanted the Chargers to move to LA.

Am I the only one who hates the current probowl arrangement?

Picking teams? Really?

Who thought that up?

And move it back to Hawaii for cripes sake.

I don't care about picking teams, but move it back to after the SB so you don't get an automatic 10 bumps from players on those teams not playing. There are what, nine probowl QB's this year as things stand?

And bring back the skills competitions.

They need to cancel the game & do an American Gladiator thing... With Irvin & Deion suiting up with their teams.

Marshawn Lynch is an idiot. Damn good RB, but an idiot.

I don't care about the media interviews. Heck, I'd rather NOT have to listen to the dudes version of English. It's the way he goes about things in the league. Dude makes a boat load of dough that he would never have come close to earning in a lifetime if it weren't for this game and league. Yet, he grabs his package when he scores a big TD, complains when he's fined for not following rules of a company that pays him to run with a football. I'd think it'd be a privilege to play in the NFL for most players, but this cat must think the NFL needs him more than he needs the NFL

Maybe he would've had success if he didn't play football? Who knows? Just a hunch, but he wouldn't have been much of anything if it wasn't for the NFL.

Apologies for the rant.

Yeah and the league makes money everytime he scores a TD because more people buy his jerseys (on which the league makes money directly), more people tune in to watch him play (which makes the NFL more marketable to advertisers) , more people pick him for their fantasy football team (which translates to more website clicks). And when he can no longer score TDs they'll kick him to the trash pile and not look back.

I'd call it a push.

Hey, 12s: Seahawks want to trademark you
The Seahawks are trying to trademark the word “boom,” the phrase “Go Hawks” and the number “12,” part of a quiet yet aggressive legal strategy to make money from the team’s growing brand.

...9, 10, 11, dozen, 13, 14...
