NFL DRAFT

Texans are basically starting over mode their retention rate will be higher than average just because depth so poor. That is at least silver lining.

% of those who make it to a second contract in the NFL (from the Drafting Stage research- we did these by pick numbers but Im roughly assigning rounds) Round 4 - 37% Round 5- 27% Round 6- 22% Round 7- 15%

Just read some on ILB/S- Garret Wallow (TCU) and it seems he had several discussions with the Steelers ILB Coach Olsavsky. It appears he was on their radar and the Texans got him. ST’s in 2021 while he gets bigger (6’-2” @ 220 lbs). He’s a strong football IQ player with real tackling fundamentals. Texans LB’er group needs someone like this.

I think they went after him because players in the Tampa 2 need to be good tacklers. It seems he’s has a strong motor.
He wasn’t my ideal pick, but it seems that he will improve our middle.

The guy is a tweener, a 220lb. LB and an average athlete. To slow to play safety and to light to play LB in the NFL. Don't understand the need to trade up for this guy

Did they actually trade up for this particular player? Or was there another reason they traded up and just happened to get this particular player?

No telling what the mindset is on Kirby but it appears as thou they got in to your stash.

I know some of you don't like our picks, but from what little I've been able to watch of these guys, I like the picks. These picks combined with all of the free agents Caserio brought in, might actually make us a pretty good team. I especially like the Nico Collins and Brevin Jordan pics. Both are good receivers, but Brevin is also a blocking beast. I've seen highlights of him dominating not only LB's, but also DLs in the running game. I can see Brevin lining up as an H-back, TE, and also as a WR in certain instances.

Well this is what the bottom looks and feels like, only way to go is up!

Caserio signed a ton of free agents, because he had to, cap space and limited draft picks, really the only ones that you can truly bank on are your first and second rounders. So he addressed QB, not sure if Mills was the target or not? There was a run before the Texans first 3rd rd. pick matter of fact there was a gap from New England selection of Mac Jones 15th overall in 1st rd. Kyle Trask, 32nd of 2nd rd. and Kellen Mond, 2nd pick of 3rd. rd. right before Texans 3rd pick of 3rd. rd. Hopefully Davis Mills was Texan guy all along, if so, that's not so bad (I happen to like Mond better, but I don't matter ****). It's a flashback to 2002, he who must not be named, that's just what the Texans do. 3rd rd. pick not that big of risk with high reward. Mills is a middle of the field, short and intermediate throws his forte, arm strength is lacking, but has quick release and decent but not great mobility to extend plays, it won't be pretty but could be effective if managed.

Nico Collins, was a solid pick @ position of need. Big body/fast which you need as a #1 WR plagued by poor QB play so his low production numbers not all on him. Guess I envision him as a possession receiver to make those conversions and keep drives alive. Not elusive but strong after the catch and should prove durable which is a plus. Speaking of 3rd rd. Texan receiver from the past, Jacoby Jones, absolutely loved his whole presentation

Brevin Jordan, TE the U of Miami, one of the better prospects in class who slipped because of a poor relative strength testing number 4.53 10 being perfect. But who cares right? He is a move TE who can hurt you all three levels. If he develops his blocking that would really solidify his place on the Texans roster.

Garrett Willow, LB is someone they saw value in and traded up using two 6th rd. picks to get. Was a SAM for TCU but in NFL Hybrid LB/Safety tackling machine. He will be very productive for the Texans and special teams stalwart.

Roy Lopez, DT one gap nose tackle in a four man front, he also can play Center and expect Texans to check out all his skill sets. Nice size, son of a coach, high hustle and agile, hoping for the best for him as he tries to make the 53 man roster.

Look, I realize its not pretty but we all knew what to expect going in. Lets just make the best of it and keep moving forward and get back to respectability.

Caserio had the right idea in this draft - even if I am somewhat disappointed at missing a couple of my guys.
By that I mean just how good of a CB can you hope for from the 3rd round?
He drafted with an eye to the 2022 draft - a sound idea as we likely will have 2 firsts and 2 seconds after trading Watson.
They will assess Davis Mills and TT over the coming season to see if they need to draft a QB with their first pick in '22 - smart if you ask me.
If they don't think they need to go QB with their first pick, they may have a shot at Stingley out of LSU - considered a shut down corner and the best to come out of college in several years.
Forward thinking.

Like your thinking. Man, have the Texans ever had a legit “Shutdown Corner”?

Brandt likes Wallow alot.

Don’t forget that awesome NFL’ish OL he had blocking for him too....

Mills now has Nico Collins, Brandon Cook, Keke Coutee and Breven Jordan who is more like a big X WR. And a much better OL than David Carr ever had, especially when he was drafted. So this imo is a much wiser pick/investment!

Better RB's too.

If Campen can get the OL together the offense has a chance to be very good. Good thing is 4 guys have been added that were starters which should create great competitions for jobs. Something that's been lacking for a long time in the Texans org.

Derrick Brooks played at 229 lbs.

Leonard played LB at 220 lbs last yr.

Leonard was .5” taller and 14 lbs bigger at his pro day when he came out. But nearly 4” longer arms at 34 3/8 compared to Wallow’s t rex 30 7/8.

Wallow actually had superior athletic numbers to Leonard by .5 seconds in 20 yd shuttle and 3 cone. Wallow’s 20 yd shuttle time of 4.12 would have been tops among LBs at the 2020 combine.

The lack of length will be tough to overcome for Wallow in the NFL but he is in a scheme that will maximize his ceiling as a player. I don’t see him being a perennial all pro like Leonard or a HOFer like Brooks. But I think he’ll outplay his draft status. Ceiling is solid dependable starter imo.

I think there are several “very” effective NFL LB’ers that range from 5’-11” to 6’-1” and in no way possess arms that force their knuckles to drag on the turf. The great smaller NFL LB’ers relied on their motor and technique to become effective. I’ll know more about Wallow when we finally get to see him on the field with the elite athletes lucky enough to get picked this summer.

One thing I like about Wallow is he's fast.

The Texans defense badly needs upgrades in speed.

They were woefully slow last yr.
