I guess we'll find out who Clowney is soon unless they tag him.
Clowney is an athletic freak of nature. I remember years back watching deon Sanders and there was never any question who was the most gifted player on the field. Clowney has it to. He just doesn't care. He doesn't work at his craft. Frankly, hes been solid in run defense but otherwise hes a b*tch. This guy should be dominating and teasing 20 sacks every year.

Who's supposed to get that out of him? The coaches. I really don't care if we let him go.

Clowney is a complete non-entity for me. I hardly ever notice his presence on the field.

Clowney is essentially the polar opposite of watt.

He wasn't a pizza boy walk on. 4 years and his technique is still shoddy. This guy has barely scrapped the edge of his potential. Who the hell has ever mentioned clowney and hall of fame in the same sentence?

He hasn't been horrible but hes been a speck of what he could be. Again, this guy should be teasing 20 sacks every year. He's a fraction of his potential.

I am BOB the FRAUD

Yes he is truly the fraud. This game made Houston looks like fools, it's fans looks like fools. Cause this sad sack can't coach worth a lick.

Once again the team with more talent came in LAME, uninspired and got blown up infront of the whole country.

We can hire and fire who the hell Gaine wants. I hope he gets fired.
You may look like (and be for all I know) a fool, but don't lump others in with you. It's entertainment and the sun will still rise tomorrow and I will still go to work tomorrow night. If you get so worked up that the loss has ruined your day/week/month/year then you have a problem. Screaming at your TV or bytching here has the same exact effect... none

I feel BOB can keep us competitive and win 9-11 games with Gaine stocking him talent. Then we will get slapped in playoffs. So we cam do worse, but I will forever manage my expectations with him leading us. DW4 did not throw the ball well today and the D sucked when it mattered so cost me a lot of beer money to sit through that. Lots of blame to go around

The playoffs are over for the Texans. It's time to start getting ready for the up coming season. It's obvious what the needs are. O-line and Corner positions have to be addressed. O'Brien needs an offensive coordinator whether he likes it or not. The O-line coach, secondary coach, line backers coach, tight ends coach, wide receivers coach, and running backs coach all need to be replaced. Maybe even replace Romeo, after all he is getting old and his defense has been figured out.
Get an O-coordinator and D-coordinator that will be more aggressive. Use the talent on this team to their strengths. Get coaches that can look at the opponents weaknesses and attack them as well as take away their strengths. There is plenty of really good players already on this team to take full advantage of. O'Brien isn't going any where, so he needs to surround himself with much better coordinators and position coaches. That's up to Gaine to make it happen. A few tweaks is all this team really needs to turn the corner and be much better.

Agree.
What we saw against the Colts was what a top tier QB can do behind a top tier oline - which was graphically illustrated when they were on our 2 yard line and merely attacked one side of our Dline with a concerted push and Marlon Mack scored just as easy as you please. That is how it's done and it glaringly showed what our #1 priority is for next season - a good oline.
Even a top tier CB will not stop a bullrush like that and most Dlines will succumb to them.
So the answer is you must match good Olines with ones of your own so that you too can score when close to their goal lines.
We can cry all off season about the lopsided ref calls or the bad play calling but that is not going to fix this team.
Colts organization knew they have a champion QB in Luck so they went out and got him the protection and attack he needed in fixing his line.
Texans also have a champion QB who just needs help so would be wise to follow suit.

They don't have any choice. This organization has to protect Deshuan from himself plus it's beyond time for Kareem Jackson and Jonathan Joseph to go and get young DB's that cover and Romeo Crennel needs to be retired and they have hire Todd Bowles as their new DC and find somebody, hell anybody, they need an OL coach and last but not least an complimentary running game by naming D'onta Foreman as starting RB next season

....and the Texans need to hurry b/c the Colts obviously addressed their OL, the Titans have done the same but they may need a real QB to get the job done and the same goes for Jaguars. Side note, Mariota nor Bortles have ever lived up to their draft hype and both teams may be better off getting QB's with their first picks. Both teams have their running games and OL's in place.

Fuller is fun to watch and so is Coutee but thinking either of them will ever make it through a complete season and be able to be counted on at the end is naive at best. The same thing goes with Lamar Miller. These are a collection of talented complimentary-type player in every-down type roles who are all injury prone to a fault. A great weapon that always breaks isn’t really much use is it?

No system or identity, almost zero talent in the “foundation” positions, and a stubborn asshole of a HC do not make for sustained success.

They do however make for a great gameday experience win or lose. Good thing we got to host a playoff game this year. That was a real load off everyone’s mine. Much simpler to lay your near-annual egg at home instead of on the road. No boring plane ride to deal with.

Who are we gonna find in the draft that gives us a complimentary running game?
What the hell is a complimentary running game to OB's offense?

Are you claiming there are zero worthwhile RBs in the upcoming draft? Marlon Mack was a 4th rounder and just tore up the league not just us.

What would be complimentary would be a lot more ZBS with the line looking the same on pass & rush with Watson having movement & options. But that's coaching primarily. It's also the game Miller is built for more than the current system.

And that's the issue people have with BOB, Won't swallow his pride and relinquish the play calling duties and hire an OC outside the organization someone like Adam Gase and he has to move on from Romeo Crennel. I think the game has passed him by defensively and he has to retire and get a young DC like Todd Bowles. I believe that is what's going to happen in order for this team to be a successful team with a QB. Next year, they are no excuses for Bill O' Brien

I'm not a Miller fan but this is silly. He has missed 4 games in 3 years. And that's in a pound him up the middle role he was never designed for.
Well, there is no creativity in the offense that's where I'm going. Texans are 29th in scoring in the red zone. Something has to give next year BOB has to hire An Oc outside the Organization like Adam Gase to give this offense some life. Can you imagine what he can do with this offense with Deshaun leading at the helm?

This season was a nervous one for me as I also agree that Watson is going to be very good but, I feared for his safety on so many plays.
If you look at Brady you will notice one thing he had through the majority of his career and that was good protection.
Watson has already been hurt on a couple of occasions and you can't allow that to happen to the most important piece on your team. It's suicide.

I have been pounding the table about oline help, but we could also do with receiver help as we saw how badly we missed Fuller and Coutee when they were out.
Our TE's went away for some reason which also hurt his hot reads. He needs the ability to quickly dump that ball off if pressured.
A really good running back will also give him an out when he needs it.
I wonder how good he and Arian Foster would have been together...

now that the intinal shock is over what are the problems with our team what are the dents in the armor if u will..???

I really think racks and his hole defense staff need a turnover just for the shake of change to hope things can get better and maybe switch to a 4-3 ...to hope the defense can muster up a better overall defense ranking ...cus obs the cant cut it in a 3-4

Absolutely, that's why I said there are exceptions. Brady is a great example. Once you've got all the money in the world you can afford to look at it differently.
Don’t the owners have even more money than Brady? Why are they not looking at it differently?

I think our entire secondary needs a overhal imo

even the vets like j joe and Jackson matheiu hal reed and moore we need to take a serious look on moving them or trying to find someone younger and better

linebacks might need to twwek esp if we switch to 4-3 and I like the big boys on DT but I dont know all this talk who we keep watt or clowney one might have to go and hopefully be replaced with someone who can give more production

We must fix to O-line. You can't have the most sacked QB in the league and expect to win any play off games or much of anything.
I think we are ok in the middle martin and the 1 of the guards its the tackles who could be upgraded IMO but idk a lot of teams in the nfl have cheap or average o lines If teams can get away with not having to pay the online big money thats a plus esp with a mobile qb like Watson he does not really need a stone wall in front of him imo

if we can spend more of our money on defense and pass catchers that might be better

Watson was the most sacked because he refuses to let a play die maybe he needs to be coached up better to find his hot dump off and or live to play another down

As for the WRs: Coutee can straight ball, he stays. He’s the prototype slot guy. He had a great game yesterday after missing 6 weeks. They rushed him back too soon on that hammy.

As for Fuller I don’t know how you place blame on him for an ACL, I guess next year will say a lot. We could always use more depth certainly (what position doesn’t) but we got our 1-2-slot core.

TEs: Griffin has got to go, no way around it and we have got to get those two specimens Akins and Thomas in the scheme. They’ve both flashed this year but I guess BOB wasn’t seeing it “in practice”

Missing a game and being missing in action while out there are two different things but both undesireable I think. Miller isn’t the guy we want to see when he’s banged up but out there. Even healthy in this role he’s feast or famine. 18 yards vs Indy in the playoffs is unacceptable. That stretch he had in weeks 12 and 13 was nice but he didn’t touch 4 yards a carry after that the rest of the year.

He’s a good player but as you said he’s miscast in this role and he’s got to go. I’m sure Foreman was envisioned as the next step but they have to keep looking. Another season of Lamar as the feature back is just another wasted year.

Ok looking at next year first BoB isn't going anywhere and honestly I'm not sure he should. Stepping back from how embarrassing that last game was he has been trying to make chicken salad out of chicken ****. With Fuller and Coutee spending more time with the team doctor than the coaches the only WR we have worth a damn is Nuk. We all know this and if we know this you damn well better believe other teams know this.

That's what blows my mind about all this lynch mob stuff, all these weaknesses we point out, Oline, WRs, RBs, etc. We then act like other teams don't know about them and aren't able to take advantage of them. People I promise you every flaw we've seen they've seen and more on top of that.

Add to that this last draft we had no first round or second round and the FA market was looking like pretty slim pickings so you could only do so much to fix these holes. Again other teams know this when they look at us.

Despite what some on here think no other team looks at us and goes "ok boys here's our free win coming up" and yes other teams do fear us. Go spend some time on other team message boards right before they play us. I have never once seen any of them have a thread along the lines of "After we roll over the Texans we play...."

Now you can make the arguement that is where its BoB's job to overcome those weaknesses but he can't do miracles. The defense hasn't had near the injuries the offense had this year and they couldn't stop anything. Likewise he can't make backup WRs better catchers or piss poor linemen better blockers or stop Watson from holding the ball to long or taking off running at the drop of a hat. This ain't Madden he cant pause the game and take control of the QB then take control of the WR.

Is BoB a HoF coach, not in my book but then it doesn't take a HoF coach to win either. I would be fine with firing BoB and hell the whole staff if a Payton or Belichick were coming here but their not and from the list of possible replacements I'm not seeing any that would be worth the 2-3 years it would take for then to get their system in place.

Me I'm in the camp of see what they can do this year with a full range of draft picks and plenty of money. If next year we still blow it like this then it's time to seriously look at making a change.

Have abstained from commenting still digesting what just happend. Best to say nothing in the heat of moment.

But will say this, it’s gonna be a hard road catching up the Colts. They have tanked post Manning to get franchise QB Luck, then when he went down, tanked enough to pile up and hit on several high end picks, notably OL, the hardest of all positions but most unheralded.

Going to be tough decision for Gaine to part ways with O’Brian don’t you think?

He would have to show real conviction, vision and plan to move forward.

So you expect Cal to make the call?
I expect BOB and Gaine to be tied at the hip for at least the next two seasons, based on contract and organization history.

The structure of the Texans (coach and GM report to Cal separately) says that Cal is the one who will make that call when it comes, but since he was part of the decision process to move forward with BO'Gaine, there is zero indication that he is about to change course.

I think they need to prioritise CB at the top of the list this offseason. Try and get Peterson for a 2nd or try and get a 3rd back along with him for your 1st.

I look at any drop off in Mathieu and Kareems play as being due to them being asked to play more and more corner as the season wore on.

Justin Reid was banged up pretty badly late in the season which is why his tackling fell off.

I think if you can fix the CBs in front of them they are back to being a huge plus.

Joseph gets by on his vet savvy at a position where athletic ability is the key. He's getting too old for it.

The OL is second on my list, I know many will disagree, I saw some improvement as the year went on. I think Watson invites pressure the way he plays, and I think with Fuller and Coutee in the offense and another off season making the Jordan's more trusted as the release valve I think we will see some natural progression.

That is not to say a talent upgrade isn't needed. They should look for people to mould. I don't trust FA to get what's needed and I think you are as well off taking 2 or 3 prospects later on as taking 1 high in the draft, even if you don't get immediate production. There are no sure fire OL picks coming out of the college game these days better to coach up people who fit your ideal.
