New Dream o-line

LT: Orlando Pace backed up by Walter Jones
LG: Steve Hutchison backed up by Alan Faneca
C: Olin Kreutz backed up by Jeff Saturday
RG: Will Shields backed up by Larry Alan
RT: Willie Roaf backed up by Seth Wand. Haha just kidding

LT Ferguson
LG Pitts
C Bently
RG Hutchinson
RT Marcus McNeil

This would be nice. And realistic.

LT- d'brick
LG- hutchinson(FA from the seahawks)
C-bentley(FA from the saints)
RG-jean-gilles
RT-Pitts

:yahoo:

Pitts, Giles, Bently, Luitu, Wiegert/Wade
And a new freaking TE.
I would also look for a new RT in next years draft.

Did you read my mind or what? I was looking on how to spell Lutui, when your post appeared.

Personally, I think it is very realistic for next year.

I guess I should have checked my spelling first to.

as much as we saw out of pitts at guard, i dont think we see him return to that position. he will remain a tackle, whether it be on the left or right side

I dont know about that. He is a good Tackle, i will admit, but he is an even better guard. He doesn't have the footwork to succeed consistently at Tackle, and will thus get a lot of false start and holding penalties. He has the presence to really excel at guard if the tackle next to him could hold his own

actually i saw it the opposite in that he didnt really have the footwork to be a great guard. when ive seen him he works much better out in the open and gets the passrusher to the outside. it my dream scenario he handles this position another year while we groom a future LT at RT. then they switch the following season. when there are alot of penalties on a player sometimes you have to look at coaching and that is how i saw pitts situation.

we will just have to wait to see what coach k will decide on pitts.

Last year Pitts did not have the responsibility to help double team the LT's man. He didn't have that the first 4 games of this season either. Therefore LT play did little to impact Pitts directly - he was free to concentrate on his own man while at guard.

The use of the LG to help the LT was implemented the second game after Brown was moved to guard and Pitts to tackle. In the first (Seattle) game he got a lot of help from the TE (effective when it was Breuner, ineffective when it was Rivers).

This is not to knock Pitts - he's a good lineman. He was embarrassed/PO'd himself by the amount of help the coaches gave him against Seattle. This is just another mystery of the Texans coaching staff - they didn't double team to help Wand or Riley, even against the Freeneys of the league, but they did help Pitts against many lesser ends. It makes no sense. Had they done the double team schemes earlier, last year and therefore this year may have turned out differently. If Milford Brown could do it, Pitts certainly would do it better and the line would have been stronger on the left side last year and this.

With Bush:

LT-Pitts
LG-McKinney
C-Hodgon
RG-Jean-Gilles
RT-Weigert

I think Bush (and Kubiak) would make these guys look formidable

Without Bush:
LT- Ferguson
LG- Pitts
C- Bentley
RG-Jean-Gilles
RT- Weigert

Signing a franchise LT costs less than Bush freeing up more $ to sign free agents (Bentley)

Honestly, I'd be more excited about the first scenario (with Bush)

I am good with that as I think FA will be provide the short term results that we need, but we do need to go back to the draft and start infusing this line with some fresh bodies. The direction of the line should be Kubiak's first project, in my opinion, after Carr's contract is settled.

Why would we keep Wiegert at RT and move Pitts back to LG in your second scenario? You should switch those two.

There is no way the Texans can sign more than one top-level FA offensive lineman. We already have a ton of money invested in the line, even with a restructured deal for McKinney. Hutchison will not leave Seattle, so lets put that to rest. I think our primary target should be LeCharles Bently, but he is going to cost top dollar.

LT-Pitts (or Scott compete and the best player wins)
LG-McKinney (with restructured contract)
C-Bently
RG-Weigart (draft pick to groom as backup, also Hogdon will be moved to guard as he is too big to play center in Kubiak's scheme).
RT- Scott (or Pitts, whoever lost the LT competition)

LT Chester Pitts
LG Zach Wiegert
C LeCharles Bentley
RG Davin Joseph/Max Jean-Gilles
RT Eric Winston

I doubt Hutchinson gets released and even if he does, I really doubt he comes here. I think we could land LeCharles Bentley in free agency though. I would prefer Davin Joseph to Max Jean-Gilles because I think he is a better fit in zone blocking. I also prefer Eric Winston to D'Brickashaw Ferguson.

Winston and his mean streak would be a nice addition.

Wand
Pitts
Erslinger
Weigert
Winston

This gives us tackles who can run, which we will need with either Bush/Young in the pocket. Erslinger is probably a long shot. I think he will be picked up early, but since Winston has an injury, he may go late enough for us to pick him up.

I dropped Wade because the guy doesn't know the schemes. He's expensive, but it's more costly not to have the best linemen out there.

LT- Ferguson
LG- Hutchinson
C- Bentley
RG- Weigert

What is also nice is that Pitts can play LT, Wiegert can play OG or RT, Bentley can play OG. If someone gets hurt, Hodgdon can be our "sixth man" then we can shuffle the line. Versatility is great for everyone except your starting LT (why would you play them any where else?).

Interesting point. I've seen it a couple of places now. The question is why doesn't he know the schemes? Was it him or the coaching?

I like the idea of Joseph(or Jean-Gilles) and Winston to improve the atheticism of the line. Losing McKinney helps that too. 2 questions though:

How can we get 2 good O-linemen with the picks we have- do you think Winston will drop into the 3rd round because of injury concerns? Or are you advocating we trade down?

Secondly, how much of a downgrade would it be if we can't get Bentley and started Hodgon at center? Personally I would rather see Drew at center than McKinney- Steve just seems lost there and has for a long time.

The Denver system relies on quick athletic linemen. There are a lot of sweeps and bootlegs that need a lineman as a lead. If Kubiak is going to implement the same style, Wand will be in the mix somewhere. As a tackle, he outran the most of the guards in his draft class.

Pure speculation

Kubiak's first meeting with the Texans current o-line: "All of you need to lose 15lbs-20lbs. by minicamp in the summer."

I thought that is how we started the last camp.

That was our defensive line, not offensive line. Look at our o-line, no one weighs under 300lbs. Compare this to Denver where only on player (Foster) weights over 300lbs. Most of the Denver o-lineman are 285-295lbs. They are quick, good feet, athletic. We need this because the scheme employs so many pulling guards and centers, as well as a lot of bootlegs, and QB nakeds.

Good point. I tend to execrate Pendry for anything doing with the O-line, so I don't want to put the blame on Wade yet. That is an issue that needs to be resolved before the pre-season.

It was an honest question - I certainly don't know the answer and don't know enough about it to form a valid opinion.

Pure Speculation.

From what I have heard Wade is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. That being said, he does not fit the zone blocking scheme very well. Wade has poor feet and is not very athletic (he is very stiff and stands WAY to upright). I hate to eat the loss but Wade is a backup at best.

LT- D'brick +20 Lbs-agile feet,excellent pass protection
LG- Pitts-solid,versitile
C- Bently/Hogsdon-showed potential
RG-Wiegert-solid
RT-McNeil- meanie, and likes it

Under Kubiak, this line would be a brickwall that Bites and slobbers.:superman:

Winston may drop to the 2nd but I really doubt it, so we would trade down in the 1st round and grab him with whatever our 1st round pick is, and then grab Davin Joseph in the 2nd. Hodgdon would be a pretty significant downgrade compared to Bentley, but he is still a serviceable center. Hodgdon is much better pass blocking than McKinney while McKinney is better run blocking, either way unless McKinney takes a significant salary cut I wouldn't keep him.
