New 2012 NFL Mock Draft

DFlo

Practice Squad
Hey guys, I've updated my mock draft for the 3/4 point of the season.

You can check it out here: 2012 NFL Mock Draft

Let me know what you think. Would love to hear your feedback!

I've also added a Draft Order section that I will be updating weekly for the next 4 weeks

It's a curveball pick for you guys, wasn't sure how the Houston fans would react. Let me know your thoughts

Give me North Carolina Dwight Jones in 1st & John Cooper in 2nd :)

Have to agree with beerlover. We need to go after a WR in the 1st and Jones would be a good pick. I'm not like a lot of people on here that want to get rid of Brisiel. If anything, I think the Texans may try to replace Wade Smith since he will be 31 next season. But, whoever they try to replace on the O-line, I don't think it will be with the 1st pick. WR, ILB, and NT are much bigger needs IMO.

.... I have to spread some rep around before I neg rep the guy beggin for clicks again.:vincepalm:

Sorry you feel that way rmartin, I haven't been around to respond the last couple of times because of work. Just drained when I get home, and after spending a couple of days writing up a mock the last thing I want to do is look at that for a while.

Regarding the pick, part of it was me trying to get this guy noticed. He's good. He's really good and he's not getting enough credit. He's a perfect ZBS lineman and I think he'd be a great fit in Houston. More than likely he's going to go in the second round, I like him early in R2 to Washington if they get a QB in R1, so you can consider it a reach.

FWIW, if it wasn't him I probably would have made that pick Mohammad Sanu or Kendall Wright.

When all you do is come in and post a link to your site and never join in the conversation outside of that it comes off as you begging for hits to your site.

I dont like it ....

You can remove Manti Teo from your mock since he is returning to school.

Yeah how convenient eh, a day or so after I published this!

Corrosion I wouldn't exactly say I'm begging for hits to my site. I think that sort of undermines the work I put into this thing. If anything I've aggregated a lot of the players full stats for both this year and last, something of value to some. At the same time, updated the draft order weekly is also valueable to others. And I put a lot of work into that damn mock draft, and am providing you guys with new content/opinions to create some debate and get you guys thinking about the draft. My point is, it's not like I'm trying to get you to my site and trick you into clicking on ads... This is relevant draft related content, which I have posted in your Mock Draft thread.

I enjoyed your mock and appreciate the time you put in. I know how much time in addition to regular work it must take.

With that said, please have some imput in the back and forth banter.

For instance you have Barkley and Griffin way underrated.

Couples, talented underachiever
Barron, in the box S dont go in the 1st rd
Cooper, ?
Miller, the Pack wont take a RB this high, they need a DE (Wynn) or a OLB (Perry) for instance would represent greater value at a position of need. Miller has been injury prone a bit throughout his career. Although he's a great talent.

12 hrs and no response, looks like Corrosion was spot on.
Or to be fair, he could be working as he said above. My issue with DFLO's mocks is he seems to undervalue players but that is more opinion than a problem.

I agree it would be nice if he came in and discussed his views (and other folk's views) occasionally like Lance Zerline does.

Dude are you really counting the hours until I respond? Please. Of all the team forums I've posted on, you two are the the only ones who have complained.

Thanks badboy, and which one's do you think I've undervalued? Perhaps I could explain my rationale.

Barkley and Griffin way underrated? Meaning they should go higher? They're pretty high as is. Barkley doesn't have the physical tools to be a top 3 guy and Minnesota and St. Louis are set at QB. RG3 could be the #2 QB when it's all said and done, he's on his way up right now. His mechanics and footwork aren't great but he's got the most upside out of the three QBs.

In my opinion Coples is playing not to get injured, he can be dominant when he turns it on and he has too much talent not to go in the Top 10. I agree that he's underwhealmed this season.

Barron's had a bounce back year, his made a lot more plays in coverage, still not a cover safety but an exceptional safety nonetheless. He's also a key player and leader on one of the best defenses in the country, something that's going to help his value.

I like Miller to GB, just picture that offense with a running game. It would be next to unstoppable. They run a lot of spread so he would be a nice option for that offense with his speed. He also said he would declare if he get a 1st or 2nd round grade, and he declared so that tells you where they see him going. At the same time they give out conservative grades so at the very worst he's a 2nd rounder, based on their evaluations.

I noticed Cooper when I was scouting Brandon Thompson play against UNC and Cooper pretty much shut him down. This guy's an athletic pulling guard that is pretty much a wall in pass pro. He slides well, is stout and can bend in pass pro. No push in the running game which is why he belongs in a ZBS and he would be a perfect fit there. More of a 2nd rounder IMO, but I did want him to get noticed a little bit so I gave him to Houston.

DFLO; first as I said it is opinion, but evaluating Upshaw from # 2 college below Vinny Curry? I am a huge Curry fan & am mocking him to Houston round 2 on the MB under thread "Defense heavy draft" but ahead of Upshaw? I think you are only one in nation to do that.

Several OGs like Zeitler under Cooper. Maybe like you say you think he is second round & you are boosting him. I have not focused on Cooper but again you are only one I can find that has him anywhere near that high. Walterfootball.com doesn't even list him.

Whats really going to shake the top of this draft is the health of Peyton Manning. Luck is a lock for the #1 regardless, but does Indy take Luck and groom him behind Manning? Luck is probably the most pro ready QB ironically since Peyton, can you really sit him? Then it becomes really what team does Manning want to go to? He's been too good to the franchise for them to give him a raw deal and I don't think Irsay or Polian would screw him like that.

That said I have this crazy dream of trading for him, Give Matt Schaub and a couple of picks. Man, Peyton with a running game and the weapons on this offense? Unstoppable. Dream I know.

That said I don't think ILB is a need pick. We could use depth there for sure, but that can be had in a later round. I love having the question we're going to have to answer next year in between getting Williams, Barwin and Reed PT. LOVE IT.

I wouldn't mind an upgrade at CB opposite Joseph. I just not sure if KJ is going to develop into a true solid #2. I really wish Kyle Wilson had been the pick instead.

IMO that leaves the team to WR or stockpiling talent on the OL. Jones has spurts, but still inconsistent overall. Love KW but, he's much better suited creating problems in the slot. A guy who could create problems opposite AJ would push this offense to beyond elite.

Far as OL goes I like what we have at our T. Myers is solid, now that we've gotten better guard play. Guard took a hit with Mike getting hurt. I wouldn't mind an OG like you pointed out. I just am not sure if we can't get better value at the spot.

For the first time this draft can really be about BPA. Amazing feeling.

Thanks for responding, didn't mean to give you a hard time.

1. There's a good chance RG3 could over take Barkley as QB2 in this draft. I see RG3 as a better version of Vick. (Smarter, better work ethic, less baggage, same athletic ability.) He would be my 2nd rated QB.

Barkley, Reminds me of Eli Manning, he may take a little while to come into his own. But you can win a SB with him. He's a true leader which is invaluable IMHO.Both of these guys are QB's that are worth giving up the farm for. They both have a chance to be as good or better than Luck.

2. Some team will get turned on by Couples measubles at the combine and take him much higher than he deserves based on his on field production. I see him as more of a Bowers than a Peppers.

3. Barron = Jim Leonhard, great player very productive, always in the right place at the right time. But if I'm spending a 1st rd pick on a S I'm looking for Polamalu or Berry. Barron is comparable to TJ McDonald, both are 2nd/3rd rd picks. (Brian Dawkins) Not a bad pick but not a 1st rd pick.

4.Agree with you about Miller. But when was the last time the Packers took a RB high in the draft. I dont see things changing this yr.

5. I know nothing about Cooper, thanks for bringing him to my attention. I will look into him more deeply.

Thanks for the feedback, didn't mean to give you a hard time. Looking forward to your thoughts on my evaluations.

D Flo,

Tell me what you think of Upshaw in relation to Curry/Perry.

I've got Perry as a fringe 1st rder.

Curry as more of a 1st/2nd rd guy. But that could be my small school bias working. LOL

I think the general consensus right now is that Curry's a mid first round guy and Upshaw is late first early second. I wouldn't really say I'm the only one with Curry that high, in fact most people I've seen have him that high right now.

Cooper on the other hand you are right, haven't seen a lot of hype for him yet, part of the reason why I stuck him in the first. Rumor is that he's he might be staying for his senior year, so it may be a moot point anyway. Good guy to keep an eye on for 2013.

For the first time this draft can really be about BPA. Amazing feeling.

Agree with most of what you said in your post. Be thankful your team is in this position where it has options instead of needs and can thus go BPA.

No worries man. Regarding Barkley, he reminds me more of Jimmy Clausen than of Eli Manning. What he's got going for him is that he's a 3 year starter at USC, and put up some fantastic numbers this season. He wont wow anyone physically, but he has enough arm strength. I think he benefits some from the talent around him, alot of his deep throws have way too much air under them and rely on the WR to make the play (just like Clausen) which he can get by with at USC because of the talent. He's also got a QB-friendly coach and a talented offensive line. I still have a lot of questions about Barkley and don't see him as a sure-fire pro.

2. Not only because of his measurables but also his production last year where he was at times outright dominant. Remember heading into the season he was the consensus #1 Senior. That doesn't just go away.

3. I don't see the comparison there, again different opinions, doesn't mean either of us is right or wrong. Barron's much bigger than Leonard - he's got good NFL safety size already and he's got great pedigree. Lacks the coverage awareness/instincts of Leonard but he can make plays.

4. True, although they did take a couple of 2nd rounder RBs recently IIRC. They have been trying to address that position, just not in the first like you said.

Perry I need to watch more film on. Didn't jump out at me the few time's I've seen him play this season.

Upshaw is not a great athlete but he's a build, tough LB with great instincts. Alabama uses him as their rusher, but he's much more versatile. He can cover, jam the TE, stop the run. Don't underestimate the value of playing for National Title twice as well - he's a proven winner.

Curry I would like to see more lower body power/explosion generated but he does a nice job of using his hands. He's got good upper body strength from what I've seen. If you're looking for a 3-4 OLB, Curry might be more suited to that side whereas Upshaw is more suited to the inside in a 3-4.

Bad Choice for the Texans with that pick I expected to see Kendall Wright or maybe T.J. Mcdonald since we still need an upgrade at the FS position as well as the need at the NT & WR positions.
